If we could get into the top 10 of 247's Overall Rankings (Recruiting + Transfer) would you feel better about this class?

I'm surprised people still expel so much energy on recruiting rankings. Even if we assume they are 100% correct (they aren't) on physical talent evaluations at this point in their career, there are a multitude of factors which determine if they will be productive at the college level (at any single program) and beyond which aren't captured in those ratings.

Furthermore, since there are few talent evaluators which are generally not great (or else they would have a better job), those services rely heavily on top program's interest in a prospect which naturally favors top programs creating a self-fulfilling rating system. In other words, if UT was consistently at the top, our classes would naturally rate higher with the exact same class due to those services trusting the UT coaching staff.

Classes shouldn't be evaluated until they have been on campus a couple years.

Don't hate that rationalization at all. People who put all their eggs in the rankings basket do themselves a disservice, just as the ones who choose to ignore rankings completely.

Fans get excited for higher ranked classes because it indicates that you have more blue chips than those under you, and just as many talented players as those that you finish near/just below. There is a proven correlation between % of blue chip players on your roster and playoff appearances, title odds.

that's great...but i still don't trust our offense. but, it's December. so i'm not panicking or anything. i'd just like to see more consistency on the offensive end, especially from all these vets we got. i don't see any appreciable difference in Santi's or Z's game, and that's not necessarily a bad thing mind you. just feels like they should be.....'more' offensively. JJJ, i think he's been pretty good and he certainly looks like "that dude". if he can contribute more like he did the other night, that bodes well.

the newer pieces will start to figure things out and get better as the season goes on. Knecht can be something else, but we have to prove we're more offensively to get him better looks. right now, defenses can key on him, and we still struggle to find a shot, and when we do, we're not awfully consistent.

i don't see this dominant team that i think we all thought we might see, given who all was returning this season.

this team will still rely on the type of match ups we get to determine how far we go, i think.
Until we can play consistently from start to finish in a game or a stretch of games, with minimal cold shooting spells, this team should be considered, good but not great... the talent is there to be great, so it's up to the players, in that we can certainly get to "great". With our current play, sitting at about 12th is more reasonable.

Bold Prediction: Deion at USC in 2025.

Lincoln Riley might get the blade next season. Highly disappointing season this year with the Heisman winning QB (7-5; 7pt win vs Colorado, 2pt OT win vs Zona, 1pt win vs Cal). Didn't even finish in the Top 25.

They just lost the #1 QB in the 2023 class Nelson to the portal. They have 0 QBs committed in the 2024 class. They'll have to hit the portal for a QB now and several top transfers have already made their picks. Their incoming class is sitting at 17th overall. And they're playing in the Big Ten next year, and their first game is a neutral site vs LSU. Their other 2 non-conference games are Utah State and Notre Dame. They play at Michigan next year, while also drawing Penn State, Wisconsin, and Washington.

I think Lincoln takes an NFL job this off-season. Chargers have an opening with a young talented QB

For the record, I don't think I've ever seen a single person here that completely dismiss rankings. That's a strawman.

The media coverage would be even more insufferable.
