It's all strategy. When this wild west NIL, which is unsustainable, passes teams like Ole Miss and Colorado will return to the dust heap of "6 wins is a great season" and teams structured for the long haul will prosper. With the money being thrown around Lane better have IMMEDIATE results or he goes the way of Jimbo. If he gets those results he'll be gone, my bet is Miami.
Been saying this for a while. It's spreading out the talent. It'll lead to more parity.Had a Bama fan tell me the NIL/Transfer era hasn’t changed a thing for Bama or other elite programs
But it has
Bama plays for a national title in 2022 if a Tennessee team loaded with NIL and transfers doesn’t beat them in October (first win in 17 years)
No way Nebraska flips an elite QB recruit from Georgia pre-NIL era (highest rated recruit in 17+ years)
I think I’m going to like this new era of football
Meltdown, no, no reason to, but why shouldn't people be upset? This would mean picking up difference makers in the portal pays off or paid off for them specifically... we currently have a better roster on paper, so if we don't, then that will be on Heup for the decisions he made or passed on... I've said several times, he can't have it both ways even though a ton of folks on here think he's flawless and will jump down your throat if you question him or the decisions he's made. He makes the big bucks, and with that, comes accountability... ticket prices are up, I know mine keep going up, so we expect a return on investment.if ole miss is in the playoffs next year and vols are not.. i fully expect this place to have an epic meltdown. and lane will troll even more.
Good postIt's all strategy.
CFB Sirius was talking about this on the way home.
OM & Colorado and (a 3rd team, can't remember) are atop portal rankings....low on HS.
Meanwhile UGA leads HS, winning championships, and has lost 17 to the portal while gaining none.
Give me UGA's situation all day long.
One is sustainable, one is not proven to be so yet. I'd also prefer having a cohesive team of guys in our development umbrella multiple years, not a full team of randos trying to gel every 12 months over and over again.
I’ve worked with many and I don’t know many that would give money to anything without it benefiting them in some form or it is tax deductible. The rich donate wherever there is perceived value. They have the money to spare. Value comes in many different forms.
Doesn’t matter if deductible or not, though that certainly helps.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but he ain't coming here.View attachment 603107
So far had two balls drop.
Hummer balled us like an hour ago.
Just missing a Fong ball drop.
Isnt that sad? It’s almost hard to believe. Not many will donate to something unless they get something or it’s tax deductible? Personally, I’ve given to things for the sake of giving. Maybe they were tax deductible, but I would have done it anyways. Did it just the other day actually, and got nothing tangible in return. Now that I think about it, I do it at least a few times a year that I know of.I’ve worked with many and I don’t know many that would give money to anything without it benefiting them in some form or it is tax deductible.
Give to UT academics $1,000,00 @ 37% bracket is a $370,000 tax savings.
Give to UT NiL and you lose $370,000. Not many would do that without major perks down the road or other incentives.
Even through the business it wouldn’t be deductible. Just harder to trace and find.Isnt that sad? It’s almost hard to believe. And maybe you haven’t worked with enough that truly have more than they, or their kids, or their grandkids, or their grandkids kids will ever be able to spend in their lifetime. There is a point where desire exceeds monetary value, and it’s usually at the point you have more money than you know what to do with.
You can also give directly to the football program through UT. Football Excellence Fund.
If you’re just doing math ok. But most people don’t give purely for the math. I will argue this til I die. The math helps, but people give because they have the means and want to see a desired outcome or feeling achieved. So I’d take that math and say I’m giving 1mil to UT and I don’t pay 370k in taxes. Or I give to Vol Club and it costs me 370k I would have paid anyways and Vol Club gets 630k and I have to figure out how to try to do that logistically so that I don’t have to pay gift taxes on it, which may be harder to achieve than just paying it. Or, and you tell me bc you’re the accountant, I’m sure if my NIL gift is done through my business that I can deduct at least part of it as an advertisement/biz development expense.
Also, I can’t fathom that a gift of 1mil doesn’t get you some major perks. Vol Club budget be damned, If I walked in and said I’m considering a gift of 1 million dollars, I bet they would bend over backwards with perks. In fact, if I wanted dinner with Peyton Manning, Al Wilson, and Josh Heupel at Ruth’s Chris, fully paid for, with them singing me happy birthday, I bet they figure out how to make it happen.
