Recruiting Football Talk VII

If AP and Hubbs just had a podcast that was a consistent 45-minute complaining about the staff's ability to close you'd be on to something.

Sure, every now and then you'll give a nod to the fact that the staff is recruiting well (enough), but the volume of your harping on their closing has faaaaaarrrr outweighed that. It's one thing to exercise your right to criticize; no coach is beyond that. It's another entirely to be a constant, annoying drip.
He is trolling for responses from folks. I don't know if he even truly believes what he posts. I don't know why someone would get their jollies from trolling their own fanbase to get them riled up, but we have several on here that do just that. I would block Ed (Hole In Da Roof), but he makes nearly all of the player threads and so I find myself in a Mexican standoff.

YARN | That's a Mexican standoff, and that was not the deal ...

Your "facts" don't follow the pre-determined narrative that our coaching staff sucks donkey nuts. Take it elsewhere please.
It's almost like someone who wants to hear his narrative validated listened to a podcast and (was probably the person who submitted the loaded question) convinced himself that what the guys were saying supported his position, despite the fact it wasn't what they were saying.

Someone should just make new player threads in the future every time he posts one.

Both can be true:
1. They need to learn how to close better in some position areas
2. They just signed the best class we have had in years.
Good post, but I'll add

3. We're really not used to being that close on that many top 5*s and discount how tough those pulls are to finish off. Someone posted the other day that no school has more than 1 top 10 recruit, for instance.

If we wanted to bat .1000 we could just go after 2 stars.

Man, you're smarter than that. Don't pull out a stat that's only a portion of the story to counter an argument. If you watched our games, you know they were not great at pass pro, certainly not championship caliber or even close.

For all Joe's faults he usually avoided taking sacks. But he didn't have the time top teams give their QBs. Not really even close.
Who cares? We have upgraded for next year.

I give this class a very solid B. I think opposing coaches used this year to downplay last season. Pick up the 5* DL in the spring and I'll bump it.

Recruiting needs to be better to challenge the big boys. It's a process though. Better season next year = better Recruiting next year.
Yea and some are complaining about getting highly rated DL players...

Until Tennessee puts a DL player in league for 4 or 5 years in a row...these kids are going to go to Georgia, Alabama,OSU and so on...

I would like to thank everyone for getting that abomination of a thread closed down. Hopefully that thread or at least the last few pages get sent to the incinerator. Some of yall need to sober the F up. Too early for that crap VN!!
Apparently I missed out on something. Dammit.

Will each team score that many points, is the ?....
They have been scoring a lot the last few times they played. If I remember correctly, when USF loses, they usually dont get much past 20 and when Syracuse wins they get close to 30 this year. When USF wins, its usually a pretty high scoring game. I'd say if USF wins it'll be 41-38 type of game. Just looking at their schedules, I think Syracuse may win.

That's what happens when the teams play on SEC Network most weeks...

Besides SEC fans who watches SEC Network...

Yep. Only rating the games televised nationally greatly influences those #s.

Hurts a Kensucky because play more on a conference network.

Helps a Colorado because being out west a lot of games are late at night and the only game on.

Helps a Alabubba because they're Alabubba and are televised nationally more often.

I would wager that it hurts Tennessee as well.

All,

As I sit back and reflect on going commitless for 4 straight months, all those stupid things pop up into my brain about this, that, and t'other. Never forget,

Bubbles is their HC.

I think recruiting like this will get us in the playoffs. Once we hit the playoffs one or 2 years, the recruiting will get a bump and push us to legitimate title contenders.

@jave36 ...who you think is a better QB, Trevor Lawrence or Daniel Jones?
LOL man that's a tough one. I think TL is in a better situation as far as team and coaches, so his stats are better. But if they traded places? Jones might do better in the same situation. I think he's better than he looks, but I'm a firm believer than no qb can overcome a bad team.

So if I had to choose I'd say Jones, but not by a lot.

Interesting:

#1 Jeremaih Smith OSU
#11 Jordan Seaton Colo
#12 Ryan Williams Bama
#19 Terry Bussey A&M
#27 Dominick McKinley A&M
#90 Dealyn Evans A&M

All top 100 guys that are committed and unsigned.
Kind of surprised how many of A&Ms recruits seemed more committed to Jimbo than A&M. I thought there would be more excitement in recruiting by moving on to Elko. Afterall, he was just there a few years ago as DC.

Stats are very much alike...surprised me when I saw the stats....

Obviously other coaches used FSU getting snubbed in the playoff against them in recruiting as well. No wonder they can't wait to get the hell out of the ACC.
Not just that, it's the disparity of TV contracts. Listening to the radio last night, the guy said Big 10 teams get like $72mil each from their TV contracts. SEC is like $68mil each. I think he said for ACC it was like $40 mil each. If true, that's a huge disparity of funds flowing into the coffers. But the ACC is overall an inferior product. They have no negotiating power. So it behooves the better teams that want to remain relevant to jump to either the SEC or Big 10.

Me neither. I put those people on ignore.

I’m pretty much a homer in 75% of my posts.

I don’t understand the fans who can’t think critically and do nothing but pump sunshine.
I have plenty of more important areas in my life where I need to think critically and have a pragmatic outlook. I have UT football for the joy and hopefulness that it brings to me. I enjoy pumping sunshine here, because if it doesn't turn out to actually be sunny for UT football my life really isn't affected all that much. Other areas of my life are much more important and can have a much more meaningful impact on me and my family. Thinking critically about a football team is silly in my opinion. Just enjoy the good times and let the bad ones roll off your back. It really doesn't mean that much when taken in perspective of life as a whole.

if they do jump it will be because they are cool not getting what the current B10 or SEC members are making for a certain period of time (like Oregon with the B10)

over time the financials will absolutely make more sense. for now, they have to get out of the ACC, as it has become obvious that they're hitting their head on the ceiling and it's limiting their growth.

If they were already in the Big Ten or the SEC, they would be in the playoff and have a top 5 class. maybe top 3. Unfortunately they got snubbed and the sharks circled their class telling impressionable 17-18 year olds that they going to a second-rate conference. It worked.

This is also the outcome of the networks bending FSU over in front of everyone to show that the Big Ten and the SEC are the preferred conferences. Which is why you have 4 future SEC/B1G teams in there. The networks set the hierarchy and now they're going to get power programs like FSU at a discounted rate because they've completely devalued the Big XII and the ACC, after they outright killed the Pac12.
