Recruiting Football Talk VII

Well, you're completely misrepresenting the conversation on the podcast.

They were answering a loaded question, so obviously they were discussing it. They agreed that there were some fall-throughs late, but then discussed opinions as to why that may be, while agreeing that late misses happen to pretty much every staff.

Some reasons:

This is a great class, and a lot of fans are undervaluing it.
Staff's recruiting style of not pressuring.
The fact that UT were late on a lot of these guys, so you can't really fault them for incomplete hail Maries.
The possibility that Spyre's reputation may create a bad impression here. i.e. Recruits know that Spyre is reputed to have a lot of money, so some recruits will use UT just to drive up NIL moneys elsewhere.

It was in no way a "This staff sucks at closing and it needs to get fixed. Boy, EdEcEcko77 on Vol Nation is right on, everyone over there really should show him more respect, and the place would improve if they all took him off of ignore" conversation.
Good class, not great...Great classes are top 5 and above

I do not pump sunshine. I’m realistic. I have expressed my fair share of concern across different staffs in different sports when warranted.

If you want to tell yourself that you are a “homer” in 75% of your posts, that’s fine. You can do that. But clearly that’s not how most of the board views it since a lot of people have been pointing out how incessantly negative you’ve been lately. I don’t think I’ve seen hardly any positive posts from you in the past week and even the few I do are almost always caveated with something negative.

Sounds like you just focus on the negative that I post. That’s a you problem.

Crazy how tightly bunched the team rankings are. Georgia/Bama are solidly at the top, but after that (on On3) #3-#17 are are between 91.1 and 92.7. We're as closer to Texas at #5 than we are to South Carolina at #20.

Also didn't realize we were ahead of Clemson, Penn State, Florida, and Michigan now, and we're barely behind FSU despite them having a great season.

That's what happens when the teams play on SEC Network most weeks...

Besides SEC fans who watches SEC Network...
So, why would ESPN relegate them to the SECN? I don't think Disney is in the business of off-loading the premier games to their niche networks.

That's like saying that games only get higher viewing because SEC on CBS aired them, while ignoring why CBS chose those particular games.

Hey buddy… you having a rough morning?

It’s just funny how myself and others comment how the staff struggles to close and a lot of cheerleaders on here somehow take offense to that and go in with personal attacks.

Meanwhile, guys who literally cover recruiting and have for decades say the same thing. The staff is recruiting well, but needs to close better.

But keep lashing out at me, the big bad wolf, if it makes you feel better. 😉
If you pat yourself on the back any harder , you're going to break something.

The staff seems to be building classes similar to what’s prioritized in the nfl. Look at our highly touted players over the past 2 classes and you’ll see primarily QB, pass rusher, CB’s. This class also prioritized O-line and a couple stud Wr’s. There’s a reason these are always the high draft picks and big contracts in the nfl, and a reason we’re prioritizing them.

We can fill in holes at other positions, but need to have difference makers here which is what we’ve done.

One of those teams is not like the others, Auburn. Wild to see them do that well.
Selling anything by whatever means necessary is easy. Its simply a numbers game. I can do whatever, say whatever with no accountability. What's more difficult is to have a strategy based in psychology. Asking right open ended questions, and develop a relationship forged on trust.

The long game strategy is much harder to do. But much more effective one relationship is built. Just saying.

agree with that. You do gotta go get the best talent available though.

We were 18th in the country and 2nd in the SEC in sacks allowed. We need the run game to help Nico.
Man, you're smarter than that. Don't pull out a stat that's only a portion of the story to counter an argument. If you watched our games, you know they were not great at pass pro, certainly not championship caliber or even close.

For all Joe's faults he usually avoided taking sacks. But he didn't have the time top teams give their QBs. Not really even close.

Our scheme is fantastic at limiting sacks as well. The run emphasis, quick screens, and easy reads will usually have us near the bottom of sacks allowed regardless of the OL.
