Recruiting Football Talk VII

Crazy talk, if that’s what folks believe.

Heupel needs to be our Johnny Majors - 10+ years of stability, good recruiting, big wins and occasional runs at titles. Consistently in good bowls and almost always in the national conversation.

We are never getting Nick Saban 2.0, especially not in the new SEC where you can quickly rattle off six or seven programs where it is “easier to win” than Tennessee. Those programs will be chasing Nick Saban 2.0 - we need to be chasing stability.

There's likely never going to be a Nick Saban 2.0. The SEC is too competitive now that they've ended the divisions. He is literally the most successful coach in the history of college football. And it's even more impressive that he's done it in this era. It wouldn't surprise me to see UGA fans turn on Kirby in a couple years if they don't make it back to the CFP during this time. Hell Clemson fans have already started to turn on Dabo despite the success he's had.

The issue with players like Walker is they were brought in to combat our issues on the DL while it was being rebuilt and re-coached.

Once our DL could actually get a pass rush, players like Walker weren’t needed. We now need DBs that can cover in space and play zone.

That is now what this staff is trying to transition to. We don’t need DBs who can come off the corners and be basically another Blitzer.
This is not aimed at you, but I thought that I read here somewhere a few days ago that the coaches wanted to move out the older guys because they only knew how to play zone. Implying that the younger DBs would play a man defense next year. Did I just dream that or what?

I wouldn't mind him back at all.

I think Wesley's been our most underrated player the last couple years.

I do understand the staff deciding its time to play the young guys now. Still, if we had him back the safety spot would've been secure. Its also ridiculous how all of these old DB's still have a year left lol its like "oh wait, he's still eligible!?" For every single one.

So many terrible angles over the past couple years. I’m done with that entire unit and couldn’t be happier

Matthews is a game changer for sure. We have added 3 frontline receivers and a hoss of a tight end. I would say the we did alright.
We thought Thornton was a game changer, too. Never know until the kid does it on thos stage. That's why I'm wanting Stewart. He's known. He's done it on this stage. Heck, we don't even know what Nico will do for sure.

If you read the whole tweet, the guy addresses the SEC's apprehension of adding teams like FSU, Miami, and Clemson because of the impact it would have on UF and SoCar. Also, the SEC already has the Miami area in their market umbrella. The markets they haven't reached are the states of North Carolina and Virginia.

UNC or NCSU would be most likely to get the call. UVA and VT will have to either both go together or both agree to separate due to a state law. One can't act independently.
Didn't read the whole tweet but when they added texas, they showed they didn't care about the current members opinions. They approved it because of money. And the teams that bring more will get the 1st opportunity.

Hubbs is saying you'll see Nico early.

He’s just guessing. Has no idea.

Also this is another example of all UT coverage leaning negative. First question from the goober on the left was about it being disappointing that UT didn’t capitalize more on the 11-win season. Why is everyone so allergic to positivity?

Translation, one Florida team is too many.

I would be very surprised if the SEC would want the BIG 10 in their recruiting territory. That would be a huge mistake. Plus, I believe this would send Clemson and Miami to the BIG also. You never allow another franchise repping the same brand to come close to your territory. Screw Florida and South Carolina.

There should be no more excuses by anyone if secondary performance does not improve. Banks/Martinez have handpicked talent at their disposal with a couple of established vets working in as transfers. The D-line and LB rooms are experienced and loaded. No more BS excuses allowed.

If the O scoring returns to closer to its 2022 performance, making the playoffs should be the expectation. So now I expect the manage expectations crowd on here to rush in with their 8-9 win projections.
Ah, but they'll be young and inexperienced in areas. Can't ignore that, right.

What you say is true.
But the moves that we have made in recruiting, re-recruiting, and the portal show me that our staff really wanted to give Nico a lot of tools to work with. I think that they think Nico is or can be really special. Hopefully, that’s not just my orange 🍊 colored glasses speaking.

Why are you so mad at people who see it differently than you?

Because for most people positivity doesn’t sell. VQ get more engagement/interaction over their negative comments than being positive.

Also, I’d imagine (and I could be wrong) that @Freak gets more traffic in threads that turn negative or have drama. And I’m not saying that he causes it or starts it.

True didn't think about UNC but imo Virginia just doesn't bring the $$$. Duke is a national brand in basketball and bring good money.
The money is in the TV markets - you want both markets, not two schools from the same market.

Didn’t UVA just win bball recently? They have all of the Money, Resources, & Size required to be a legitimate SEC contributor. Much more so than Duke or Vandy.

We are not going to take anymore receivers, not before other priorities, that room is stacked.
And we do know what we're getting with Nico. Did we know what Trevor Lawrence was going to be? Did we know what Tua was going to be, Bryce, etc? Every practice he does it at this level and believe me they know what they got.

We are looking at going a whole lot more man.

We will have four that can play the edge, which is plenty barring injury that is.
We should. I'm just going by the coaches' actions. They pursued Diggs for a reason. They were hoping to get him in for a January visit. They went and visited with him. I'm not saying, "we need an Edge" because I think we need an Edge. I'm saying the coaches were pursuing an Edge. He picked Syracuse. Do they want another Edge, or was there something particular about Diggs? I have no idea.

Evan Stewart is supposedly visiting in January last I heard. If they're using a visit on him, they must have interest. Visits are valuable capital in recruiting.
