Recruiting Football Talk VII

Some think because they donate big money. They should have a say on who plays...
Isn't that where we are heading though? I had a conversation with someone the other day about this. He hated NIL and the fact that there is no more loyalty. He brought up players transferring to rivals. I simply asked him if he was pro capitalism. He said yes. I said, " why wouldn't you love where the sport is heading?" Players and coaches earning what they can and what someone is willing to pay. Isn't that the core of a capitalist system? Who do some only like socialism when it comes to their sports? As it pertains to donors, they will eventually have the biggest say. The ncaa and certain politicians are trying to write law that states players are employees... How is that? Who is the owner? It cannot be the college because many are funded by state money. A private institution might be able to take this approach with players. Maybe we are headed towards the privatization of college sports where there are owners or shareholders and board members. The larger shareholders will make the decisions. They will hire a CEO, President, COO, etc... Each team will be an organization.

Someone stated that college football is heading toward and English Premier League setup. 5 divisions with the top 20 teams competing and the bottom three getting relegated. There will be power players and the rest. I hope Tennessee is a power player. It will take investment. Hence why I said a month ago, watch out for Saudi money soon in our sport. One big issue with capitalism, money typically always wins.

That's the worst news possible. I can't believe Heupel would let boosters determine depth chart/playing time. Hopefully that just Tony being Tony with the negative on what could be seen as a positive.
Surely our AD would serve as a buffer keeping this from happening.

The most surprising part is some of you actually believe TB has legit inside information lol

If you’re trying to help the team in the long run then you’d play all young guys at all positions and no older players. Which, ya know, is dumb.
Not necessarily, positions like DB, QB, and to some degree LB and RB the players need the experience to improve faster. Other positions like OL/DL, wr, and te you can plug and play a lot easier and faster

If you were trying to help the team in the long run, you’d play all young guys. There’s no better teacher than experience.

It would also be dumb to do this. Not to mention a guarantee that every upperclassman would opt out of every bowl that wasn’t a playoff.

I’m just now listening to today’s Basilio show. TB said two sources have told him that Nico is starting the bowl game. Even TB doesn’t believe it. He thinks they’ll give Milton a few series at least.

Mentioned that some of the big NIL contributors have been upset about not seeing more of Nico this year.

Boosters making decisions about who starts will become a big issue. It’s the kind of stuff that will cost you a great AD and head coach. I really dislike some of these guys.

Tony’s full of **** as usual. How does that carpetbagging grifter still get sponsors? Can’t wait for his dumb ass to retire back to Filthadelphia where he belongs.

And yet it started in the 80s (and that's just to our common knowledge)...

Woe is 2023! Run to the hills!

We're going to differ here Devo. The information in the graphic reported above is skewed. Much like we cannot compare athletes from 1950 to 2020, the same can be said of crime statistics. Back in the past, data was required to be submitted by all municipalities. The files would then be reviewed by an independent panel and decide what gets counted and what does not. Today, law enforcement agencies are not required to report and, in many instances, only report those months where the data works for themselves on a political or funding basis. The result is the FBI using models to forecast for the missing data and creating assumptions for what is happening.

The real story is that crime rates are rising since 2012. Violent crimes of murder, rape, grand theft auto, and aggravated assault are much higher since 2012. Crimes such as robbery and burglary are down (property crimes are down the most). Why? CAMERAS. Cameras are everywhere and criminals are smart to avoid them. The only places cameras are non-effective are areas where the DA fails to prosecute those crimes. Then, cameras are not effective outside of an autopsy for the insurance company. It should also be noted that many categories saw an uptick from 2019 to 2022, even in the crime categories that had seen declines since 1990 to 2020. The FBI also notes that Covid shutdowns in 2020-2021 led to less small crimes and less traumatic violent crimes. The data from 2021 was also mostly missing so you will want to remove 2020-2021 from all analysis. The better thing to do is compare where we are now to the years before Covid. Even with the missing and politicized results, you will obtain better arguments and discussion.

Well...they did have something to prove...now all they are going to prove is that the committee was right...UGA is going to absolutely annihilate them now and make them look like 🐕💩 since half their team has quit.

I will never understand how you people think. FSU should gave went all out to win this game and then hung a NC banner...hell half of Bamas NCs are contested and everybody but us seems to acknowledge them.
There wasn’t real NCs back then…. If someone voted you number 1 then that team claimed a championship… Tennessee has claimed a few questionable ones…. Pitt Panthers claim 9 NCs….. It’s very hard to get all of the guys committed to basically winning a game for pride. It gets even harder when guys start opting out.
