Recruiting Football Talk VII

Had an entire rebuttal to this typed out. 🙄 GF I got VN'd. Page refreshed and wiped out my reply.

I stand behind what ive said, 100%. I dont care about Tannehill or Newton. I do 100% believe Halzle calls some plays, and I think Josh Heupel does also. I think offensive talent dropped off this year at both, WR, and QB. As Ive stated, the blame is enough to go across the board.

Ultimately JH is the coach, as is Halzle. Who else's responsible for recruiting, developing, and getting kids ready to play? Yes there were some good times, but there were plenty of calls where I scratched my head, thinking we were predictable, too slow, and in a bad position.

Moving on, I like the steps theyve taken in 2024. Really hope the talent on paper translates to success on the field.
Just because you're confused isn't a reflection on Heupel.

Also, it amazes me how quickly people forget the state of the program that Heupel took over. Anyone who realistically looks at the program, they'd see just how ridiculous it is to say, "Heupel should be held responsible if he doesn't have all the talent to do what he wants to do right now."

That's just ridiculous.

There'll come a time when Heupel will have to answer for the talent on the field. 2023 wasn't it, and to be blunt, it's dumb to make that claim.

Do you stand by this take if UGA boat races them on Saturday? I guess the counter-argument will then be how many of their players opted out/transferred? I'm not being smart, this is a genuine question.
No, because the landscape has changed. Players have opted out and entered the transfer portal on both sides that would have played had either team been in the playoff. The teams playing in the Orange Bowl are not the same teams that would have played in one of the CFP games.

Josh Heupel is the head coach at a big boy school. I like the guy, hell I hope he's here for 15 more years.

That said, we, as fans. Which is what we are, are able to second guess him. It's what we do. Doesn't mean I dont support the guy. You can de-legitimize, what is ultimately 'dumb' or not agreeing with your opinion, which you seem to be qualified authority on all things football. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I dont think the talent was good. And I do think it's JH's responsibility. And I think there were times when he looked outcoached in 2023, also think our offensive playcalling wasnt good at times.

Its an opinion, may be dumb. But its an opinion. As Ive stated, Joey Halzle needs to have a good year in 2024. And I think they will, they've brought in some better players.

You and McGill are acting like people are calling for Heupel's head. I haven't seen any of that. There are legitimate and fair criticisms that can be made about our coaching staff, but that doesn't mean anyone wants Josh Heupel fired. You two are acting like he's a football god that can do no wrong. I like the guy, but he has made mistakes. It happens. People make mistakes. Players made mistakes. Coaches made mistakes. FFS, we all make mistakes. But NO ONE IS SAYING JOSH HEUPEL SHOULD BE FIRED. No one is saying he forgot how to offense. But all the blame is not on Joe and the players. Coaches made mistakes, too.

I have never claimed to be the authority on "all things" football. That's an ad hominem, and it's a retreat from legitimate debate. I don't have to be an authority on all things to make legitimate points. You don't seem interested in debating those points. Just pouting that I post with confidence.

And one doesn't have to be an authority on all things to see:

1--The state of the program when Heupel took over, and the timeline this fanbase was giving to even becoming competitive.

2--The ignorance of trying to hold Heupel responsible for not completely turning the talent over in two recruiting seasons with a NCAA investigation hanging over the program.

3--The fact that the SEC is "big boy" conference actually works AGAINST your argument--i.e. it's HARDER to become competitive against the "big boys".

You have every right to question Heupel. You have every right to have dumb opinions. If you don't want to read arguments why the opinion is dumb, you may not want to post them.

Just glad he had his 8th booster or it could have been much worse.

come on man. not this again...

That said, my 2 of 3 have had stomach bugs since Christmas night. My oldest just got sick again, and now my 4 yo has a temp.

Uh, just ready for them to be able to enjoy their Christmas /rant.

Maybe older ones (sorry). We just haven't been competitive with them in 15 years for the most part while Saban has built a dynasty. I hate Florida, Lane Kiffin, and now Michigan more than them. We've been more competitive with Florida and there are like 5 games that we should have won in that time span. That fuels my hatred for them. Getting blown out by a far superior Georgia team this year just makes me tip my cap and accept that they have a really good team, it doesn't fuel my hatred.
The Michigan/ gump game came up in a discussion at the end of the day at work. There are 3 guys in my dept...I'm 48, one guy is 40, the other is 28. I asked them which SEC team they hated the most. The 40 yr old said Florida and the youngest said Georgia. I'm guessing you're in your 20s. If I asked someone in their 70s, the answer would probably be Vanderbilt.

*I'm old enough to remember the SEC before the east/west divisions were formed. The TSIO was the game of the year. When the divisions were formed, Florida became our biggest rival to some, because we battled them for the eastern division title. I still don't consider Georgia a rival. I hate that they are better than us right now, but I don't loathe them like I do bama and florida.

*Having more hate for Michigan than Alabama, doesn't make sense, even with your examples. Are you from the north?

I've never once said that y'all want him gone.

I'm making arguments why the criticisms are misplaced.

And of course he's made mistakes. I've admitted that, and agree that everyone makes mistakes.

But when someone starts acting like Golesh was the reason for our offensive success, and saying that Heupel should be held "responsible" for 8-9 wins and the talent on the field... They should expect push-back from some in the fanbase that remember the state of the program Heupel took over. It's just crazy to start taking about Heupel having to take responsibility for the state of the program when he's excelled expectations.

I'm not sure I've ever experienced such an entitled, amnesia-plagued fanbase.

It's also crazy to try and put all the blame on Milton, as some have done, or on the players in general. Yes, they deserve some of the blame. So do the coaches as they are the leaders of the team. I know Heupel inherited a mess. I also know our players stayed loyal to the program throughout that mess.
