Recruiting Football Talk VII

I have no idea how much of a difference Golesh makes. Does anyone? No one seems to really know how much input our OC has. How involved are they in game planning? How involved are they really in play calling? In game preparation? I have no idea. Heupel most likely calls the plays. I don't believe he's ever come out and said. He definitely has final say.
Then you and I are in agreement.

QB and WR play took steps back. The coaches aren't perfect. Not sure there's evidence to support the assertion that Golesh was the secret sauce.

Go Vols. I love our current players and I believe in our staff. Can't wait to see the Nico era. I hope we get the best recruits in the land for our system.

I don't really believe that was the problem. Drops however were a huge problem.

I have rewatched a lot of the games several times and there were guys getting open...he usually saw it too late or never saw it at all.
It was the result of the greatly limited route trees, and was a symptom. Forgetting how to catch is definitely on them though.

I think our passing struggles was 90% qb 10% wr. Milto definitely didn’t throw WR’s open like Hendo did, but the wr’s never really did a good job of sitting in the zone or improvising
the offense was ran the best way for Milton to be effective. It will be different with Nico and we will see a lot that we did not see. Not a knock on Milton at all either. It was obvious all season long.

Didn't AR apparently put up historic combine numbers?

Outside of how far he can throw, I don't see Joe breaking any records tbh. Love the guy, but he's not the quickest or most freakishly athletic, but he's a big feller so it's understandable...

I still see him as being a day 3 guy, maybe late day 2. If HH was a 5th rounder. Just not sure JM is quick enough for the NFL level. Maybe he can still develop there though 🙏
Joe is taller than AR, that will be part of his combine numbers. His straight line speed will be one of the best of the qb group. He'll be preparing for the combine harder than anyone because that's his ticket. I agree, day 3 guy. A really good qb coach and OC who can call plays around his weaknesses (and he'll have a coach in his helmet, which I think will make a world of difference for him), and I think he could be a serviceable backup.

What’s crazy is Peyton and Bray were all passing yards and probably with negative yards running lol.
Lol yes, but it's even less complicated. Peyton in 1997 threw a whopping 148 more times than HH did in 2022 (477 v 329), that's 44% more pass attempts over the course of the season 😐

Now...HH did "rush" 55 more times.

That still means HH had a net 107 fewer plays to gain yards.

HH was much more efficient. Overall he gained 8.23 Total YPP. Peyton gained 7.20.

‐------‐---‐------‐---‐------‐---‐------‐---‐------‐---‐------‐---

Other stats:
PM - 38 TDs v 11 INTs - 60% completion - 8.0 YPA - 147 qbr

HH - 33 TDs v 2 INTs (1.5 fewer games) - 70% completion - 9.5 YPA - 175 qbr

If given the same # of plays - HH would have gained 4,500 yards in 2022!!! 😳

None of this is to take away from Peyton, but HH in 2022 had the best season as a QB in UT history. And it's not that close. And if he hadn't gotten injured, he 1000% deserved the Heisman...especially once Williams blew his conference champ game.

HH is THE man. But Heupel is also THE man behind THE men!

Hot Take: Unfrosted pop-tarts are passable... frosted taste like chalk.
OG blueberry (unfrosted ofc) was the GOAT.

These frosted folks have lost their marbles. It isn't freakin candy for breakfast, folks. Just 2 slices of enrichened frankenwheat encompassing a beautiful spread of all-natural sugar glaze.

Cereal was actually invented in communist lands. Meant to be cheap wheat for undermenschen.

Real Americans eat a light, heart healthy breakfast of sausage, bacon, grits, biscuits, and gravy, pancakes and s'rup, with a side of orange juice and butter on a bit of toast.

Cash me ousside

...K now I'm hungry for breakfast for dinner

Just because you're confused isn't a reflection on Heupel.

Also, it amazes me how quickly people forget the state of the program that Heupel took over. Anyone who realistically looks at the program, they'd see just how ridiculous it is to say, "Heupel should be held responsible if he doesn't have all the talent to do what he wants to do right now."

That's just ridiculous.

There'll come a time when Heupel will have to answer for the talent on the field. 2023 wasn't it, and to be blunt, it's dumb to make that claim.
Well said
