Recruiting Football Talk VII

All this talk about "fixing" CFB is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. The issue is what it has been-- networks wanting to control the product to maximize viewership, revenue and egos. And "wanting" is really "demanding," since everybody in the trickle-down wants their money and will sell out for it.

It's the Hollywood model, with sports as entertainment, conferences as production companies, schools as show runners and players as content providers. Fans are the audience paying more and more for an increasingly diluted product.

Can't disagree. The fans, boosters (collectives) should be paying less towards it.

The commissioners, ADs, coaches should be making less and those dollars should be going to players. The fat cats have had a rigged system this entire time and know it.

Yep. And the people who say they are going to try to fix it are the same ones creating all the issues.
Agree. And the universities will forever be in power. For the history of college sports, the schools have been the sole power. They are singular units that make up...the ncaa...the conferences....the P5...all of it

Which is why players need more power.

Some hate the word, but all pros do it because otherwise they'd forever be screwed over - unionize.

Why did Campbell coach like Brandon Staley the whole game, every 4 th down go for it in Dallas Territory...

Final score was 20-19 Dallas..

If DETRIOT takes the FG in 1st half from Dallas 4 or 5 yard line add 3 points Final score 22-20 ... DETRIOT...
He’s done that all year. It’s actually won them some games and lost them some games. I really liked the decision to go for 2 initially, but after the penalty just take the dang XP and move on. I think it was a dumb decision at that point but I can at least give him a little credit that he is true to him and his team who absolutely loves him. He’s an aggressive coach.

That's what I've said all along...they should have come with everything they had and tried to kick UGA in the teeth...if they did that, they could have declared themselves Champs and hung a 2023 NC banner in Doak Campbell and a lot of folks would have sided with them...it would have left them all a great legacy.

Instead they quit, which doesn't give me much place to believe they had the heart to win a slugfest with UGA to start with...

Screw em...they quit and that's all they will be remembered for by their fans...FSU uniforms getting annihilated and embarrassed....if I was a FSU fan right now I would be seriously thinking of checking out.
Totally disagree!
Even in the unlikely event they all play and win the game what does that get them? Nothing, winning a meaningless bowl game.
Like other bowl games, first round NFL picks opting out period!
So the rest go try to prove a point?
Nah !
The argument that what makes CFB special and don’t change it has always been—- every game means something, the regular season is special and meaningful!

That’s the big argument against the 12 team playoffs.

Well the debate over whether FSU should of gotten in is 100% tied to that argument.

The committee said: your 13 wins means absolutely nothing. You lost your QB so Bama is better than you now!

Playing in or winning the bowl game changes nothing

They sure stuck it to them by quitting like crybabies and getting ran off the field.

Showed really well for their program.
Because protests should always work within the system and act like it's all equal and not rigged at all...

Venezuelans should just keep going to the polls. That'll show em.

People getting mad at the greed of the players makes me think of being mad at little league players for the parents yelling in the stands. The players are only emulating what they have been seeing this whole time.

Ya bc that’s the same as college football lol.

I’m sure the football alum of FSU were super proud watching their program get embarrassed.

Alum are fans. Side chicks to the game.

It's the players and coaches that were told their success was meaningless. They were the ones disenfranchised.

They could keep their heads buried and danced like circus clowns for the cameras of ESPN and the committee. They hard passed. Respect. Eff em

The ones playing had to love their “brothers” watching on the sideline as they got slaughtered!

That game was embarrassing for them and says a lot about the lack of leadership in their program. Whether they made a statement or not.

Thought so too. The question im seeing everywhere in regards to illegal formation comes from St. Brown at the top of the formation. If he is too far back and not on the line then Detroit would only have 6 players on LOS. The other question is if Reynolds is covering Decker which he doesn’t seem to be IMO. He’s back enough.

Question though as I’m curious.. How far can a player be “off” the line before he’s actually off the line? I feel like I don’t always see WRs directly on the LOS and sometimes they are a half yard back and slightly leaning forward and still are considered on the LOS. Is there a threshold? Like, as long as you are within a yard of the LOS you are considered on?
Threshold is within 1 yard = on. However, if you punch on/off, that will trump your position, or the official will tell you to move. They say "a blade of grass" is all you need to be further back from someone on the LOS to he considered off, as long as you punch off.

For linemen, their head has to be at least even with the center's waist to be considered on. So if they lean realllly far and the center stretches back, you could have quite a big difference between a tackle and center and still have both be on the LOS.

Pretty much the LOS officials will do whatever mental gymnastics they can to make a formation legal, especially if players are punching on/off.

Y'all acting like FSU bringing every person back for the bowl game on a mission and winning would have changed something 😅🤣

The powers that be already decided. There's no re-vote folks.

Playing the rigged games is chump territory.
Can we please stop pretending there is an alternate universe where FSU wins this game missing their QB? This loss wouldn't have changed only the margin. They looked like meh potatoes against Louisville playing for a playoff spot. That is the same Louisville that got 6 tuddies chucked on them by backup QB at USC. Is anyone genuinely imagining FSU winning this or any playoff game?

Slaughtered 😅🤣

They didn't even show up or play. It wasn't a serious game from the start. None of the season was. That much we know. None of it mattered, so why does this game's result? Get it?

Yep. Totally botched by the ref. Not sure how he misses the tackle reporting when he is literally right next to him
I'd love to know what actually happened and what was actually said. Sure looks bad for the ref though. I think he assumed the guy running on the field was the one eligible, since 99% of the time that's what happens. Couple that with 68 admitting he only said one word ("report") to the ref, and I can see how the ref thought 68 was telling him 70 was going to be eligible.

But that's still a pretty egregious move by the ref. You can't just assume, and I almost always see them announce to the whole stadium who is eligible, so skipping that step was weird too.

Already shifting. Boosters are diverting donations from sports and earmarking funding for named facilities, academic buildings and endowments.

Bc the game literally happened. They got murdered. On national television.

All their “leaders” opted out. They took their ball and went home when they didn’t get their way.

You’re acting like an Orange Bowl victory wouldn’t have meant anything for their program. If anything, it meant WAY less for UGA who has actually had sustained success far beyond the Orange Bowl. UGA who had 2 opt outs. And one of those literally had surgery this season.

Meanwhile FSU’s team quit. And then got slaughtered.

Being honest I have struggled to follow your line of logic on this topic. I am trying. I can only imagine you aren't speaking to likely results just the "fairness" aspect. My only issue with that is why wasn't Liberty allowed in by this logic?

The games matter imo. Not just winning though. Who you beat and how you beat them matters too.

He has done a good job at Detroit, but he has to realize that he now has a team that can compete with the big boys and he can and should take points when they are essentially given to them.
