that’s nonsense….. big difference losing your starter and having to hurry and get the back up ready then it would be to have a month to prepare a qb.

They had a month to prepare, and the backup quit. The guys on Cover 3 podcast, who seem pretty close to FSU, said people inside the program knew Rodemaker wasn't part of their future plans, which is why they were portal shopping.

It's not nonsense that developing quarterbacks takes time and game reps. A month of practice was not enough to go from what they had against Florida and Syracuse to playoff quality. It's not necessary to look for other reasons for what happened here. FSU just wasn't a playoff quality team without Jordan Travis.

Only nonsense IMO is that they are not a top 10 team with QB2. I think they are but the Merc’s folded so it’s moot point. We can only judge then by the score of their bowl game and it wasn’t good.
How can anyone know that for sure…. the back up started his first game on the road in the swamp after 1 week of reps as a starter. Remember the arguments over who should be starting between Hooker and Milton after his first game…. two games later and he was on his way to being one of the best qbs in UT history. That same scenario has played out many times throughout history.

Transferring and opting out to prepare for the draft are different.

If they moved the portal to after all bowl games, FSU still would’ve had 9 players opt out of the Orange Bowl.
it’s not that big of a difference…. i don’t see much of an issue either way…. its players choice bc it is their reward for what they accomplished during the regular season.

But I don’t get how you can just subjectively make that call. Just admit it that results on the field don’t mean anything.

That also tells you how the FSU coaches treated the game- an exhibition. A win or loss didn’t matter because it’s the game they were relegated to. Our fans clamored for Nico to play to get experience, and let’s be honest, FSU also wasn’t playing for anything else either. Just call it like it is.

He wasn’t part of their future plans but that still doesn’t mean you can’t game plan and win big games with him…. similar to how Kiffin utilized Crompton to almost upset Bama on the road or Tennessee dominatied the 85 Hurricanes with a walk on….

People have been fooled into thinking teams have no chance bc of Bama’s and Georgia’s dominance….. There is not team similar to that in this years playoffs… That doesn’t mean blow outs won’t happen depending on who shows up.

Jalen Smith from Notre Dame a few years ago blew his knee out in a Bowl Game..

Was a projected top 10-15 pick in draft after injury Cowboys selected him in 2nd round ...

Lost all that signing bonus to give his all...

That's why kids opt out of Bowl games looking out for their future...and they should..

Making that subjective call is the committee's job. There are no fixed rules about being undefeated, conference champions, etc. Their mandate is to use their best judgement to get the four best teams.

I don't really care about FSU's coaches and how they approached the game. I think Georgia used the practices to try and get better. They reportedly did that by planning, coaching and practicing like every other game. If FSU did it differently, that's their choice.

There are objective criteria in their own guidelines. But it’s the only sport where a group of human beings pick who they want to play for a title (the bubble teams aren’t winning titles in basketball). Every human has a bias- especially when the corporate sponsor is telling you how to do it.

My point about the FSU coaches is that they would have most likely prepared differently if they were in the playoffs. But once they were relegated to their exhibition, losing their backup QB didn’t matter. Yea, it was their choice after they weren’t rewarded.

I believe that the committee, like most of us, deals in probabilities. They didn't need to know for a fact that FSU had zero chance to be successful in this year's playoffs. All they needed was to decide that four other teams had a better chance to be successful in the playoffs.

Re the 2nd part, I'm not talking about Alabama or Georgia here, just FSU.

All this talk about "fixing" CFB is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. The issue is what it has been-- networks wanting to control the product to maximize viewership, revenue and egos. And "wanting" is really "demanding," since everybody in the trickle-down wants their money and will sell out for it.

It's the Hollywood model, with sports as entertainment, conferences as production companies, schools as show runners and players as content providers. Fans are the audience paying more and more for an increasingly diluted product.

Sucks, sucks, sucks. Hollywood sucks and what multiple people on here have been saying. Money ruins everything and makes people soft.

I guess when I have this perspective, I'll know my sports viewing days are over

Sure, everyone has bias but is it evident in this committee's decision? I don't see it. Maybe one day cfb will have an inflexible set of rules for making playoffs like the NFL, but there will have to a complete reorg first IMO. Too much disparity in level of play across conferences right now. Until that time, a committee is probably our best option.
