Yeah it’s a big deal he retired. Dude is a legend in CFB. I just don’t think it’s a big deal that he didn’t know or didn’t tell players before hand. A coach the caliber of Saban (there isn’t another one right now) retiring + the new transfer rules + NIL = mass exodus of players.
Why you are choosing to ignore the players (which is usually your specialty) I don’t understand.

Consider this. Those players are said to have chosen to go to AL and be paid less in order to play for this legend who promised a championship. Now if he knew he was going to retire, he cost a whole class a lot of money when they initially chose AL. If he knew and didn’t say anything until they were enrolled, he cost them a lot in the portal.

Stories will come out. Right now he is getting too much worship for anyone to publicly say anything.

1st he's a Louisianna boy. All of them dudes usually are tigers at heart barring external factors. He took forever to announce. He has yet to do a spread in UT gear and still has his LSU attire on in his profile. Etc.
NEGAVOL!!!

It's not really being overly critical is more how weak I think Auburns schedule is.
Split Bama games
Split MSST games
Lose to TN

And that's all that I really feel good about them losing.
I mean they could lose to UK but it's at home, and then maybeeee one of the UGA games, but of they don't shoot like they did against us, I'm not really sure UGA hangs with a top opponent.

I think Kentucky's length could be a challenge. Auburn's got one guard that plays minutes over 6'4" and they only have 2 bigs over 6'8". Will be an interesting matchup though.

They've only faced 1 team with a SRS over 10 and that was A&M at home, they have 8 left on the schedule.

Split Bama, Split MSST, lose here... I'd probably have Kentucky and at Florida as the next two possible losses. Like I said though, I think if they're undefeated coming to Knoxville we're not winning the regular season title.

I’m not ignoring the players. My opinion exists in the world that players are already being screwed and scrutinized way too much.

A coach leaving for a new job after preaching to players about buy-in and culture and a coach retiring after the same stuff are both are crap situations for players. And that’s all I’m saying - that in the current environment where coaches screw over players all the time, a coach leaving for a new job and a coach retiring are on the same level. Again, just my opinion on it.

But I do think the impact is lessened with the portal. Which is one of the reasons I love the portal. Gives players some power.

Did you notice every player had Summit on the back of their jersey instead of their own name? Did you listen to Coach Kellie? It meant something to her that she reached her 100th win on the day that they dedicated to Pat Summit. You may or may not remember that she was the point guard for Coach Pat Summit - Lady Vols won 3 national championships during that time. This was not about whether or not she’s an elite coach or whether you think these players are good, this was about a special moment.
I am well aware of who Kellie Jolly is...and, that doesn't change the fact that speech (yes, i listened to it), and breakdown, almost put me to sleep. Kellie will always hold a special place, and I've taken up for her whenever others had already moved on; however, Summitt, herself, would to hell with the dedications and rememberances, and would want to see some Final Fours. THAT'S how you honor her. Harper would've already been at 100, if she wasn't 12-6.

Are we there yet?

Everything is relative, or so I’ve often heard. From a roster talent perspective it’s how do you compare to the most talented roster in college football?

In 2020 we hit a high water mark for us, at least in recent years, as tracked by the 247 team talent composite published every year at the beginning of the season. 2020 was a better roster on paper than 2015 and 2016.

The thing about relativity is that everything is always changing. Our rosters in 2015 and 2016 ranked higher relative to everyone else but the composition of rosters above us continued to improve and we didn’t so they pulled away even more.

So we started rebuilding the roster in 2019 and 2020 and we were climbing on up then all hell broke loose and we fell into a pit.

It’s been a long hard slog from the depths of that 2021 sinkhole and we still have a long ways to climb. As it stands right now I think our 2024 roster talent as measured by the recruiting industry is likely to be the best roster, highest rated on paper, that we have had in maybe two decades.

I think we could be maybe a top 10-12 roster in 2024 but the really promising thing is that with the 2025 class we have the potential to maybe move into the 900 club. That would likely be a top 7 roster. As GMac said in one of his commitment interviews, we’ve got momentum.

Many thanks to the staff and players for making this happen and especially thanks to all the fans behind the Volunteer Club for helping to fuel that momentum. #GBO.
