Interesting convo. Who are the teams that make deep runs consistently? Be curious to look at their successes / stats. And also what is considered consistently?
Lately UNC/Duke... before their legends retired.( Theirs is more of a talent advantage)
UCONN
Sampson at Houston
Self at Kansas( cheating advantage but they do follow the formula)

Your first part hits the nail on the head.
We don't agree on a ton because you take hard stances, and I see things more fluidly, but I would say what makes Barnes so great in the season has been his Achilles postseason. It's a singular defensive focus. Once you get to the tourney, you will face teams capable of getting hot or knocking down shots, even with great defense. That has been proven repeatedly because Barnes's teams rarely play bad defense. Rarely. You have to be able to score and keep up with those teams. Barnes's teams often weren't horrible at scoring, but they were usually inconsistent. We saw a little of that early, but this current team is finding more and more ways to score 80+.

Sure there is some variance every year, I'm not arguing that, but even in the mid Majors that create upset they usually follow the same formula.
Balance on O/D. Efficient on O.... A go to scorer that they trust to give the ball to late.
You’re not wrong, though I think “some variance” is underselling it. There’s a reason it became famous as “March Madness,” and it ain’t because it’s predictable.

He's got the horses to play man and jam the hell out of us. He owned us even with Hooker though not commiserate with just a talent advantage IMO.
Dude...he had twice the talent at HOME...and they were not jamming, they were grabbing, holding and tackling all over the defensive backfield.

The biggest problem was the OL couldn't hold their water that game because of the noise+UGA actually having a great defense.

I can't believe you started up that stupid "Mark Richt" 🦬💩...Heupel has overachieved...what he did in 22 was insane, and Richt is one of the biggest underachievers of all time.

For craps sake...don't start that stupid 🦬💩...quit listening to the crackhead Idiot Margin.

The inconsistent is where the efficiency thing comes in.
You can get away with fewer possessions as long as your are scoring the majority of the time with them.

I also think you're close with the Barnes thing but still off.... I think it has more to do with the quick turns and gameplanning, when he has days to scout and install his gameplan he's fine, but in the quick turns he can't get his teams to understand the plan, or the plans aren't as good as they could be.

To me, we appear to lack confidence offensively more than scheme issues. Is the lapse of confidence from the coaching? Idk. I will say I am not overly confident in our current scheme against dominant big men, but that applies to most college teams.

UConn won the NC in 15-16 then didn’t make the tourney for 4 years, then exited in the first round 2 years in a row, then won another NC. When they make a run, it seems to be to a title. But not that consistent.

Sampson one of the most underrated coaches in the game. Also happens he had to resign from a job for NCAA trouble. But yeah he can put together a roster and coach.

Even Self exited in the round of 32 last year, won a NC the year before, exited in round of 32 each of the 2 seasons before that. Kansas is going to at least the Elite 8 every few years for sure.

Jay Wright went to the Final Four in 08-09. Then went 6 years without making it out of round of 32. But after winning that title they were tough, even tho there were still a couple round of 32 exits mixed in.

Correct, but compare that to how many times Barnes has been to the EE or farther.

There is no bigger Heupel fan than me. I agree he has done less with more. I am simply saying that the one coach that seems to consistently negate the advantage Heupel brings is Kirby. He does so disproportionate to the talent gap. I say that because look at how close Mizzou played them the last two years. I would not take Drink over Huepel, but ignoring that Kirby is arguably the best coach and recruiter in the sport right now is naive. I try to give everyone credit where it is due.

As far as my Richt comment I am merely saying that I think the next 2 years with Nico Huepel should make it to the playoffs if he is our Saban or whatever. I am fine if he wins 10 every year for the next several. I just never want to suck again.

I just dont think we drive the ball enough.
I'm not talking about post ups, just get a guard to take it down hill. Get the other teams bigs into foul trouble. Getting a couple cheapies early in the game and making him sit for awhile is huge.

We used to do that back in the 80s..we would hop over the fence at the ramp and go in there and throw a football around...we usually got chased out by security guards after a few minutes, but they never caught any of us..

Thanks for the reminiscence..brought a tear to my eye, one of my partner in crime cousins that I used to do that with died this week and he was a huge Vol fan..he was only 51 😥

Sorry to hear about your cousin! 🙏

I had a ski boat on Lake Lanier when I lived in Atlanta

Nothing seems to remove a fine lass' clothing more quickly than a run to a secluded bay in a fast boat

But it is absolutely a hole in the water where you pour money
I just need to buy one more thing and the boat will have everything it needs! You ever say that? Me, at least 3 times a week, 😂

More interested in what everyone considered consistent. Don’t need to look that up, everyone knows what Barnes has done to this point.

Don’t think he’s one of the top 5 coaches in the game, even tho you only named 3 active coaches. He’s really good tho.

Wait a minute, I know I can count this. Let me try again...

One of the craziest "world records" ever...................

Vesna Vulović was a flight attendant onboard JAT Yugoslav Airlines Flight 367.
The flight path, between Stockholm in Sweden and Belgrade in Serbia, took the aircraft over Czechoslovakia - now the Czech Republic - and that is where the plane exploded into three pieces. The explosion and crash killed everyone on board. Everyone except Vesna, who survived a fall of 33,333 feet (10,160 metres; 6.31 miles).

At 4:01 p.m., 46 minutes after take off, an explosion in the luggage compartment tore the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 aircraft into three pieces. As the cabin depressurized, the passengers and other flight crew were believed to have been sucked out of the plane into freezing temperatures, falling to their deaths. Vesna’s miraculous survival was attributed to her being pinned down by a food cart in the tail end of the fuselage (the aircraft’s main body).

The fuselage separated from the rest of the plane and hurtled towards the ground in a heavily wooded area near the Czechoslovak village of Srbská Kamenice. It crash landed in the thick snow at a favourable angle, which is most likely what saved Vesna’s life.

Additionally, Vesna’s physicians determined that her low blood pressure caused her to quickly pass out when the cabin depressurized, which prevented her heart from bursting upon impact.

Vesna was found screaming inside the wreckage by Bruno Honke, a local villager and former World War 2 medic who was able to administer vital first aid before rescuers arrived.

Although Vesna survived, she sustained extremely serious injuries and spent the following days in a coma. She suffered a fractured skull, two broken legs, three broken vertebrae, a fractured pelvis, several broken ribs and temporary paralysis below the waist.

Amazingly, Vesna was able to walk again after ten months, albeit with a permanent limp due to the twisting of her spine.
