I mean, that was his Freshman year. Cut Sophomore year. The guy was only 5' 11" at that point. Then he sprouted 4 or 5 inches and morphed over night. Then was instantly his HS's best player after that.

Not sure how many guys make varsity as a freshman, especially under 6 foot.

I did. And also played with & against others that did as well. His hard work & determination to prove the coach wrong for cutting him made him MJ in the long run. His height didn't have anything do with his talent at the time. Theys plenty of books & video out there on MJ that has people saying he wasn't very good when he was cut.

ZZ isn't over 6ft so should he not be playing for us off his height alone? No he has the talent & determination to make up for it. Jmo tho.

Shocked to see FPI has us a 60/40 favorite on the road.

Really thinking this is a -2 UK type of game. Road games are hard enough, as we saw yesterday. But UK is our equal or at least close enough.

We'll need to be at the top of our game and guards will have to defend much better than yesterday. Reeves is a legit scorer. Need to treat him like we did Sears.

I think it’s going to come down to our defense….if we can slow them down we are going to score on them. The “X” factor will be how much the refs want to inflict themselves on the game. I am trying to get tics but they are hard to find.

Geez - some of you are so anal. I am not comparing him to MJ or any other proven star, although he probably is going to be better than LeFlop.

DK is a generational talent at Tennessee. His talent and performance translates well enough he is projected to be a lottery pick in the NBA per analysts and former NBA players who are singing his praises. That gives him a leg up in perception and probable opportunity in the NBA to be a featured scorer. What I see is special and fits where the NBA game is now. Only time will tell

Grant was a #22 pick who has been good, but no star in the NBA. Admiral has been a borderline bench player. He's not a starter at all and averages 12 minuted per game. Combined they took the program to a high level that we all enjoyed. IMO this team has a better opportunity to go farther because of DK.

It’s really special when you got coaches that are all successful at a high level and support each other the way Tony, Rick, and Josh do. I’ve not really experienced anything like this in my many years of Tennessee fandom.

Generational talent is idk. Someone that just has IT in anything they play. Like idk getting All State & other top awards in multiple sports & having your pick of what school you wanna go to in either sport.. instead you just skip it and go straight on to dominating the Pros

MJ being cut from Varsity story is a myth…. Back when MJ played…. Sophomores and below weren’t allowed on Varsity…. MJ’s high school team had one spot open and was going to add one player from JV…. They chose the 6’7 kid bc they needed more rebounding than guard play…. MJ was only 5’10 at the time.
