I didn't read Forde, so I can't comment in that context, but the NCAA's weapons are Loss of Institutional Control and a postseason ban, both of which the NCAA pushed last time. They were forced to back off both when the AG got involved and weren't happy about it. Coming after UT in the probationary window allows them to treat UT as a repeat violator, reopening the door to a LOIC and harsher sanctions, including threatening to keep UT out of the playoffs.
Wouldn’t keeping us out of playoffs also hurt the sec coating it money and again make the sankey have our back

It's strange that they backed off due to AG threats, thinking they'd then go for what the AG threatened against (postseason ban).

If memory serves, the TN AG stated: "Our state law prohibits post-season ban. Kick rocks." Unless state law changed in their favor, it's stupid to back off just so you can try to take that same ground.

See the underlined below. Weird, I remember hearing almost this exact phrasing from a recently retired hall of fame coach. Now it’s getting pushed here when the early results show that NIL has created MORE parity than before. Who have you been talking to, NCAA?

So the NCAA wanted LOIC and postseason ban last time for the Pruitt fiasco, and couldn’t get it?

Yes. But it's one of the NCAA's few "real" weapons and they brandish it like they are actually going to be allowed to use it. The SEC and the TN AG won't stand for it.

What did Saban say about “neighboring states”?

There are, but there are so many competing agendas at the individual school level. Look how many individual schools are represented on those boards. I highly, highly doubt a single school has any kind of real influence.

Of course, the schools (especially the big sports schools) have common interests, and those interests do get advanced. But at the individual school level, no.
Not sure why this, of all things, gets you so fired up to make post after post defending uga. To each his own I guess.

Not directed specifically at you, but in response to every "...defending rival X" comment:

Seeking clarity and truth is not the same thing as desiring to defend a rival. As a matter of fact, pushing an agenda that been shown to be untrue is a far worse look than clarifying for the sake of truth.

Correct. TN AG sent formal correspondence stating that Tennessee law supersedes NCAA guidelines and warned that Tennessee would legally protect the rights of the state's SAs. The NCAA had to take a ban off the table and back off LOIC. Instead, they stuck UT with Failure to Monitor and a stiffer fine, both of which went against good-faith discussions and agreements. The duplicity did not set well with UT, but the university paid the fine and moved on. The NCAA almost immediately started sniffing around UT for NIL violations and were soon back waving their sword.

Quietly, UT admin gathered support and firepower to respond. I think you said they even warned the NCAA that they were opening a Pandora's box if they continued?

Clarifying is one thing…. Repeated posts arguing minutia that is somewhat irrelevant to the point is beyond clarification.

Remember all those people who crapped on Donde and said we should have told the NCAA to go screw?

Today is why that was wrong. Because we took the actions we did when we clearly broke the rules, we now have credibility when we say hell naw, we did it the right way. The optics are all in our favor here.
Yea we are kicking ass in the court of public opinion and will kick the NCAA ass in court when/if it gets to that point.

I used to vehemently oppose student athletes getting paid. A full ride scholarship was enough and the revenue from football supported other sports. That was my logic. But when you realize the sanctity of “student athlete” is a farce and in the case of revenue generating sports has been a joke for decades, and that coaches are becoming multi-millionaires, it doesn’t seem quite fair to me anymore that the athletes aren’t being compensated fairly.

It’s better to pay them above the table than all the cheating nonsense that has gone on for so long. We need to stop acting like there is some purity in amateur college football. Hasn’t been for a long time.
I get it. 100%
I don’t want to go down this path. I’ve beat myself silly for years arguing against it……and I wish I could have had a job while playing college golf by giving lessons or clinics….

No reason to even try to close Pandora’s box. College athletics are forever changed, and not for the better.

I hope Tennessee wins its case and burns the entire NCAA system to the ground. Start all over and try to make it work for everyone. All schools and all athletes.

Sure NCAA....you're looking out for all the member schools..and yet you have never investigated Alabama or Georgia despite mountains of evidence that something dirty was going on since his old buddy Mark Emmert, you know...the LSU chancellor guy that hired Nick at LSU, and then became the NCAA big dog by the time Nick came to Alabama...and sone people really believe there is no agenda...freakin idiots

🤬 all of you cheating bastards 🤬
