Recruiting Football Talk VII

Reminds me of when someone here or on Volquest thought the lyrics:

Strangers ain’t come down from Rocky Top
Reckon they never will

meant that the strangers liked it so much they decided to stay and live there. Someone else was like, “No, that’s not what it means.”
lol
That reminds me, way back when, I discovered that my wife thought the line "that's why all the folks on Rocky Top get their corn from a jar" was a reference to canned corn in mason jars, what with the practice of canning being a southern staple. I was like, uhhhh, no....

My thoughts on the matter from a high level.

The NCAA is tasked with preventing pay-for-play. But Alston forces them to allow NIL. Effectively, this means it is not possible for them to prevent pay-for-play. For all of the reasons you and others have mentioned. They cannot effectively distinguish between the two. Hell, they said as much themselves during the Alston case.

What we have now is an NCAA that is attempting to enforce ad hoc rules it has no legal authority to enforce, and some bizzaro world where to bypass the rules, we just find a third party to pay players and say it isn't for football, it's actually for pajama pants or whatever dumb **** AP said on the pod this week.

I don't have a problem with college football being an amateur sport from a moral perspective. But here's the thing... It's over. The NCAA can't admit it's over because they are all out of a job the next day. But it's over. What we need to do now is replace the NCAA, make football players and men's basketball players University employees, and get rid of this ridiculous NIL business.
👍 Not to pick nits, as I think I understand what you mean, but to pick a nit... I'm not sure we'll get rid of the NIL business any more than pro golfers will stop getting Ping sponsorships. But I agree it'll stop being a stupid issue and code word. 👍

Feels good to hear an intelligent person of importance concisely, and eloquently say what is glaringly obvious to anyone with a shred of cognitive functionality.

DW's argument is based on fact. We arent dodging fault if we farted we'd raise our hands. This is about doing what's right.

His argument is perfect. Again, it's hard to see how anyone with any sense will side with the NCAA. But then again, we are Tennessee and our nads are calloused.

Jackson Lampley and Danny White hitting the NCAA simultaneously

Could you imagine facing this with Mike Hamilton or any of our other previous administrations? We are so lucky to have them.
The level of blow that landed with this... That was wickedly powerful.

Of interest... The NCAA already went through communications and couldn't find UT staff to be guilty of infractions. That's reassuring.

WIll it be beacuse of the 3rd or 4th sack given up by Mincey?
Mincey is going to get owned in the first quarter or half, then at some point he is going to fake an injury, and our players will be standing over/around him mocking him. Our fans will obviously give him grief every time he does anything. Then the media will say how terrible we are.

The "guidelines" were rewritten to specifically entrap Tennessee. We knew that, but I didn't expect Danny to verify it. The level of inept corruption...
