Yes, it was planned. NCAA closed the last investigation and started right back trying to build another case against UT. So UT conducted its own internal investigation while the NCAA was snooping around on NIL. It was obvious the NCAA was going to manufacture a case with as many violations as they could pretend to support. UT had legal, compliance and outside counsel sift through everything looking for anything that needed to be self-reported. In a nutshell, the NCAA knew UT wasn't going to roll over, but I doubt they anticipated such a swift offensive move before the NOA arrived. How much do you think this swift reaction surprised the NCAA?
It sure seems like the TN AG and the University of Tennessee had all of this planned and were just waiting on the NCAA to make a move.......someone there leaked it to Forde and then...............BOOOOOOMMMMM!
I would think that the speed and depth of the response had to surprise them.
Also should explain to posters why we didn’t take Ole Miss’ scorched-earth approach to the transfer portal / NIL. Sounds like we’ve played this perfectly and still brought in a top 10ish class.Yes, it was planned. NCAA closed the last investigation and started right back trying to build another case against UT. Here is the issue that no one is talking about or doesn't realize.I don't think Stewey knows what he's talking about, or I don't. Am I wrong in thinking for all intents and purposes that Spyre is NOT a booster? Therefore this would not apply. You cannot tell me that with the NCAA already having a presence on campus that UT would be stupid enough to do something where their greatest defense would be whataboutism. Tosh wash I say, tosh wash!
Reading the tea leaves, i think this is why there was a brief pause in our recruiting a year or so ago, so the internal investigation could happen and make sure we would be covered when the AA came after us again.Yes, it was planned. A private business using a jet from a private owner is not against the law nor is it something a University should be blamed for…how can a university control a private business, it still all goes back to violating antitrust laws which the NCAA has no provision over…Here is the issue that no one is talking about or doesn't realize.
I believe the plane used to fly Nico was provided to Spyre by a prominent UT booster. I think they are trying to say that a booster tied to UT can not also fund NIL or provide benefits to a collective. I may be wrong, but I think this is where it began.
Then every P4 team in country is guilty. The collectives are pulling from the same funders the schools do.Here is the issue that no one is talking about or doesn't realize.

I totally agree. It was also impossible for us given the eyes on the program.Ole Miss strategy is not the portal strategy for any program looking to be a championship program

Interesting how peoples mindsets differ. I don’t see this as having anything other than a positive affect on recruiting. Recruits will very publicly see that we have their backs financially (even if it is intimately self serving), that we will fight when we believe we aren’t in the wrong, and that we aren’t really willing to accept any punishment for this. We are leading the charge to see them rewarded for their talents and hard work. Even our rival fans see it. This one is way different from the last investigation and easy for our coaches to absolutely destroy negative recruiting angles from other teams. Can’t win playing scared.Makes me wonder just how many of those recruits that we just missed on this cycle got spooked by this or we just had our hands tied too much to close.
Very troubling, especially since this will drag for years, and the NCAA probably views it as a win just to keep the cloud over.
Boosters are supplying 90% of the funds to Sprye. Why would donating a plane be any different? Here is the issue that no one is talking about or doesn't realize.

No, the NCAA is trying to redefine the collective itself (Spyre) as a booster, thus Nico being flown in on a booster private jet. Here is the issue that no one is talking about or doesn't realize.
