Recruiting Football Talk VII

No kidding. I saw some comments on Facebook that were hilarious...wanting Danny White fired and one even saying they should "fire the UT football coach instead." Just like Lucy on this forum...you can tell they literally only watch Lady Vols sports and care more about Harper being a former player than her actual performance as coach.
Idiots all.

No, it isn't. Coming from someone whose dad and uncle both do or have coached women's sports at a high level. It's coaching. If it makes you uncomfortable, feel creepy, etc to think if YOU were the coach of a woman's team then maybe that's indicative of something else...

Not sure why you're even commenting considering how much you vocalize your lack of care for women's sports and the Lady Vols. Back on ignore I guess.
I took it as sarcasm but maybe I misunderstood

- The tight second half officiating in 2007 against OSU when they called fouls if anyone breathed on Mike Conley. 35-17 in free throw comparison.
- Block on Draymond Green in the last seconds that gave MSU free throws in 2009.
- Iffy charge call on Stokes at the end of the Michigan game in 2014.
- Phantom foul call with a second left on Lamonte Turner against Purdue in 2019.
- The narrative that the media created after our Duke game last year that I believe had an influence against FAU.
- Yesterday.

It has been 17 years of just crazy circumstances. Can’t make this stuff up.
Good hearted naive people like Jack just want to believe that we actually get a fair shake so badly that they refuse to see the truth...to break the illusion is disheartening because it makes you face a dark truth..."What's the point?"

I knew it was going to happen, but I still hoped we would get a fair game...and my illusions were destroyed years ago.

Yet I keep hoping that someday we will get the protected treatment in the biggest games. ...that "they" will think we are the ones worth protecting.

Idiots all.
Reality that people don't want to admit. Football generates more revenue than all other sports combined. Even on the HS level, when the football program is performing as it should it funds all of the other sports. Other sports are important and necessary but most couldn't survive as a stand alone. When I was an AD I spent the vast majority of my time and effort with complaints from parents of Girls Bball or Cheerleading. Usually wondering why I got paid more than the ones in charge of those sports. In the ESPN world, it's implied that it's somehow sexist, racist, etc if ratings for certain sports are not as high as others. My boys were both Wrestlers and were on consistent state contending teams and our attendance was 90% family. It is what it is and all their griping ain't gonna change it.

women's basketball is needles in the eyes. Softball/volleyball/gymnastics/diving/swimming/rowing...all entertaining and watchable.

put me back on ignore if you can't make the demarcation.

its still weird, btw.

Mhmmmm this 100%. Football is king most places because it generates revenue. Without the schools wouldnt be able to offer other sports.

"Dave Hooker" is all it takes to dismiss this.

Also, what a lazy article. Instead of doing any actual journalistic work, he found someone else's article suggesting two names without any evidence of us contacting them, copy-and-pasted their work as 60% of his article and just gave blurbs about his opinion of the candidates.

How does Hooker have an income?

Just a couple things:
1. You purposefully skewed the perspective of his career. You said he's only made 2 Final Fours in 16 years. He's made 4, and you conveniently left out two title appearances and the fact that he made a Final Four just 2 years ago.
2. You said he's "trending down with a couple 10 loss seasons" (para) he's had 2 in the last 12 years and this year he had to replace the vast majority of his production.
3. "The Top 100 players in girls is not the same as men's" what kind of comment is that?? They're still the best 100 players lmao.
4. You've misrepresented his recruiting. He has TWO 5-stars committed and a high 4 star. Not to mention he pulled Van Lith out of high school who was #7, First Team High School All-American and on the U-19 National Team a few years ago with Paige Beuckers and Caitlyn Clark. His recruiting is fine. They didn't recruit a single high school player last year and signed 6 transfers. They had the #5 transfer class according to one writer with 2 top-15 transfers. You failed to mention that and tried to make it look like they signed a bad class. He would/will probably back-fill this offseason with more portal players if he has extra scholarships, and he will probably be competitive with top transfers.
5. You're okay with him if we get further down our list. Who is above him on our list? We don't know what Danny White has but I don't think you could name a coach that mighy actually come with a better resume.

I don't care if it's Walz or not but make no mistake, hiring Walz would be a homerun. Don't paint it like it isn't, skew facts, and/or straight up lie about his resume just because you don't like him for some reason.
1. I didn’t purposefully mislead anyone… I quickly looked at a wiki post and missed 2 of his final fours… Volnash quickly corrected me which i appreciate.

2. He had back to back ten loss seasons… you are free to argue that he is getting the talent needed to bounce back(which he may be)

3.I coached AAU basketball and my daughter played a lot of college basketball. I have been to the EYBL games and the other major tournaments… There is a bigger discrepancy between the top 15-20 girls and the rest of top 100 than there is in the men’s game at this point. An example of our top 100 girls is Sarah Puckett and Kaiya Winn.

4.I didn’t misrepresent his recruiting… I stated where he is ranked at this time…. Can he improve on that? Sure

5. I want a coach that ends up like Geno, Pat, Mulkey, Dawn….. I consider Jeff to be a proven second tier coach… I trust that DW can find the next SS coach whether they have as good a resume as Waltz has at this point or not…If he hires Jeff than I feel that DW feels he can assist him to get to that top tier.

Either way….you are free to want him…. Neither of our opinions matter.

LOVE me some Candance Parker but that's like Peyton Manning taking the job as HC.

I'm also still not sure either of them have any real desire to be head coaches. Parker's degree was in sports management and as her playing days come to an end it seems she's really enjoying doing broadcasting.

I will say though...her BEING on the Las Vegas Aces might help us with Becky Hammon...and if Becky wants to bring Parker in to be an assistant that would be an absolute SLAM DUNK situation.

Yes and then in a few years. Becky could move on and Parker be elevated to HC.

isn't it weird and creepy when a man is coaching a women's sport?
No, not in general. Not for most all women’s sports.

There’s something about old men coaching girl’s gymnastics though… that’s just weird lol. (Yes, I’m aware of Bela)
