We still weren't that good against bad teams last year. Not even close. Our defense isn't great, but it is clearly better.

We have just had an issue with being consistent across the board, more costly injuries, have had an unusual amount of awful officiating take points from us and crazy dumb plays like Seldon touching that punt block.

The story of this game will be if we can put four quarters together. Only we can beat us.

Run the ball (SAMPSON), hit the lay ups, knock the hell out of Rattler.

We have to win.
I must have missed something...why do we not like Jaylen Wright anymore...because Sampson had a really good game against a scrub?

He still completely sucks at pass pro...which is not a throw away problem.

They struggled on DEFENSE at home...in case you haven't noticed our offense is 1 dimensional and not great against the one ok defense we have played at that 1 dimension.

IF we win, it will be because Milton played the game of his life and our crowd, and of they score a couple easy ones early...the crowd won't matter a lick..

We never stopped Rattler just year...what makes you think we can hold him to 40 points below what they scored last year?
1) Home game
2) Dark Mode
3) Our defense is better than last year
4) Their oline is worse than last year
5) Dark Mode
6) Night game
7) 1 of their best receivers is out
8) Dark Mode
9) Players have had a year to stew over what happened last year
10) Dark Mode

Our passing defense is ranked 36th in the country and only giving up an average of 190 yds per game so far with only giving up 4 passing tds. Far from bad so far.
Virginia
FL
UTSA- 3rd string QB

aren't exactly passing juggernauts

Let's see how we hold up the next 2-3 games and see if that ranking shifts... hopefully Banks knows he's got to get his 'ish together and makes some changes...

Should play both at same time..put one behind or beside Milton..put the other one in the slot or split out wide..double trouble for other teams...

To lose to a team with no O line, no running game, 2 players on their whole team, and one of the worst defenses Heupel has faced in his career. It's a pretty major red flag if he loses.
Yeah… I’d say red flag. Can’t lose it being a sizable favorite. After getting beat up at Florida as well. Neyland wouldn’t be full rest of the season but if UT wins it’s a big launch point into 4-1 and saving a 9 win season. Crucial game

Nick Foles is probably the last time that formula lead to a SB win. Pretty rare, if the end goal is to win it all, history has shown a great QB is the most valuable asset to accomplish it.
There have been 57 Super Bowls. Only 6 have been won by non HOF (or future HOF) QB's. Joe Flacco, Brad Johnson, Mark Rypien, Jeff Hostettler, Phil Simms, and Jim McMahon. You need either the QB, or the greatest defenses ever seen in NFL history coupled with awesome RB's and decent QB play. I'd say the QB is the easier route and every NFL franchise knows it.

Rattler is very good, but I want to put one thing in perspective. If we are judging how he played against GA this year, they only have 5 sacks in 4 games. My Dawg friends are very worried about their lack of pass rush. They have elite DB's but are not getting after the QB this year. They have played UT Martin, Ball State and UAB. Our db's are not as good as GA, but our ability to sack the QB is way better. We have 16 sacks in 4 games against better competition than GA has faced.

You can argue this game is a “bad” matchup either direction.

Rattler vs. UT’s secondary

Tennessee’s pass rush vs. SC’s pass protection

Tennessee’s running game vs. SC’s run defense

Tennessee’s receivers vs. SC’s secondary

It’ll be a game of which team’s strength exploits the other team’s weakness the best.

I have faith in UT being able to do this better.
The wrath of Vol fans against their O and D communication. You forgot that one.

I just remember year 1 vs Levis & Kentucky at their place...

45 to 42 we win, TN had 461 total yards vs Kentucky's 612 total yards (yikes)

Year 2 they come to Neyland, for a night game
44 to 6 we win, TN has 422 total yards vs Kentucky's 205 total yards

Both games the offense did what they do, the difference though a motivated defense. That's what I'm hoping we see Saturday night. Last year we scored 38 and racked up 507 total yards, but gave up 63 and 606 total yards. Defense needs to play motivated and play fast and angry.

Banks has had plenty of time to chew on that South Carolina game putting us out of the playoffs and he's had that tape to see what Rattler did to his defense.

Plus UK’s OL had issues last year and playing at Neyland at night is a task.

USCe’s OL also has issues. Unless their OL has the game of their lives, we should see some procedural penalties to get them behind the chains + missed assignments due to lack of ability to communicate.

I dont think there is a path to having that big of a "oh how the turntables"

It seems highly unlikely a repeat happens, it's very possible we can get Rattler on the ground and it's very possible our crowd affects their inexperienced o-line and they have false start issues.

USCjr had four false starts against UGA. If we can get that many or more it will give us a ton of momentum and Rattler isn't beyond throwing a pick or two if he's under duress.

To be honest I think the fact Terry finished as a 52% with just 2 more TDs than INTs has a lot to do with it, he's a guy that has 4 rings and is in the HOF BECAUSE of the great team around him.
It was a different game…so difficult to judge. I have no doubt Roger Staubach dominates in the modern game with modern offensive benefits for rule changes. He played in a local charity game when he was in his 60’s and was the best player on a field that included a recently retired Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin.

Hopefully he starts putting out a motivated defense bc of it weren’t for our offense scoring we’re not a happy bunch with the win loss record
