Something odd going on. I'm not saying we win by 6+ or even win it all. I just mean that based on Vegas odds, they're usually within 1-4pts of the outcome. I don't know what they see. If I were to cap this game, I'd have UT -6.5.
Watching the replay now. Sampson is fantastic with the ball in his hands, but this definitely needs work. He got burned pretty bad here.
Was he supposed to though is the question? He didn’t look that way but he also went out for a route. Off the play action he immediately stepped forward and to the right of that double team on their DL, delayed a split second, and then went out for an outlet route. Maybe a more experienced RB sees it and says **** my route and goes to help, but I’m just not sure if that was his responsibility. Looked to me like he was always going to run a route.I appreciate you doing this. And further on, flat out disastrous at 1:30:32. Damnit!
Karic got absolutely embarrassed. But DSamp never even looks to his left side. And that oversight is going to have a long-term effect, if Milton now has to rein in his running.
There was also the play where he almost got HH killed at LSU. I don't feel like looking it up, but I think most people will remember it. He scoops up the fumble he caused.
I have always loved Sampson since before he committed. I'm not hatin' on him. But pass pro is urgently needed.
I think DSamp was supposed to look left also before leaving the backfield as an outlet receiver if all was clear. He sees everything under control to Joe's right, but he never even looked left. But I admit I do not know this. It just makes sense that the RB wouldn't neglect to look at the blindside. I doubt he was supposed to set up so far to the right and so far forward also. Karic was terrible. That wasn’t a great effort for sure. I will say that I kept seeing after the game that Sampson was the one responsible for Joe getting his knee bent up but I fast forwarded to that play and I don’t think it was. Sampson was supposed to go out on a delayed safety valve outlet route. Now, smarter minds would have tell me RB responsibilities on this. Maybe he had a choice to block or go for a route after that quick delay, but he never seemed like he was staying home to block.
The real culprit on that play was Karic. He straight up whiffed on the DL on the snap and that DL had a straight line to Joe and was 2 yards from him by the time Joe got to the end of his drop back.
Not saying our secondary is great, but think a lot of people are forgetting how injured we were there last year. Combine that with all the banks stuff that was going on and it was pretty ugly.
I think we see a much better performance this weekend.
