I think DSamp was supposed to look left also before leaving the backfield as an outlet receiver if all was clear. He sees everything under control to Joe's right, but he never even looked left. But I admit I do not know this. It just makes sense that the RB wouldn't neglect to look at the blindside. I doubt he was supposed to set up so far to the right and so far forward also. Karic was terrible.
Was Karic terrible the entire game?

Yeah, that’s the part that we just don’t know. His primary responsibility may have been to be an outlet but just delay for a split second to freeze the LB.

Honestly, I think he was the safety valve and the rush just got their way too quick. It just looked to me like he’s trying to get out of the pocket and turn around to be an outlet route because he turns around right at the original LOS to be ready for a pass but Joe is already getting wrapped up. Who knows, it could be 100% his fault, 50% his fault or not his fault at all without knowing his primary responsibility on the play because it wasn’t just straight up pass blocking and he got burnt. It was more nuanced.

That wasn’t a great effort for sure. I will say that I kept seeing after the game that Sampson was the one responsible for Joe getting his knee bent up but I fast forwarded to that play and I don’t think it was. Sampson was supposed to go out on a delayed safety valve outlet route. Now, smarter minds would have tell me RB responsibilities on this. Maybe he had a choice to block or go for a route after that quick delay, but he never seemed like he was staying home to block.

The real culprit on that play was Karic. He straight up whiffed on the DL on the snap and that DL had a straight line to Joe and was 2 yards from him by the time Joe got to the end of his drop back.
I think he's supposed to read the dl off the line during his delayed release and give a good chip block at least, before releasing to the flat. I didn't watch the play a 2nd time, so maybe that is what he did.

I don't know. I haven't rewatched it all. We were talking about the play when Joe got hurt. The guy who tackled Joe ran right past Karic and imo Sampson was responsible to block him and didn't even see him. We were talking about Sampson in pass pro.

The first whiff by DSamp remarked upon is here: #14,695. The play where Joe got hurt is at 1:30:32.

Mincey, Lane, Mays, Spraggins, Campbell would be a solid OL for the rest of the season
Agree. Lane's been pretty good aside from the penalties, so having Cooper back at C would help get the most out of him. I'd also stick with Campbell/LT and Mincey/RT. That's been a fine combo as long as Mincey doesn't make a stink.
