Eh auto bids for conference winners is super fair. NFL operates that way so college should too imoI don’t love automatic bids. I want the 12 best teams seeded accordingly, period.
Now, if auto bids for conference winners are still seeded accordingly and don’t just automatically get a bye, home field advantage, or whatever else they decide then I’m fine with it.
The NFL also has every team in every division operating with the exact same salary cap rules and the exact same draft.Eh auto bids for conference winners is super fair. NFL operates that way so college should too imo
No, it's not fair, imo. But notice the only time a difference would result would be in the case of a conference without a single team ranked higher than 13th. (Otherwise the auto bid would be superfluous.) But in that case, how could it be fair to exclude better teams to include a team ranked 13th or 16th?Eh auto bids for conference winners is super fair. Why should the SEC and the trash ACC get the same number of auto qualifiers?
There's so many at large bids in the NCAAB tourney that it doesn't really matter. But in a smaller playoff that would be some BS imo. The SEC winner is going to make the playoff under any format, so the automatic qualifier means nothing. Meanwhile a borderline top 25 ACC team could sneak into the ACC championship and steal a spot away from a more deserving team.
Just have a committee pick all the teams. If you can't even crack the top 12-16 teams, there should be no whining regardless of the conference championship situation.
I’m not saying giving conference winners byes or any of that. Conference winners should get in. Seed them based off committee, but you win your conference, you get in. You see it yearly where teams get hot down the stretch. If they started 1-4 but rallied at the end and won the conference (let’s say big 10) then they should get in. Most times an 8-4,9-4 team isn’t in top 12. Just my opinionNo, it's not fair. Next, the conference winners would want byes. But that massively privileges conference champs from weak conferences. Perhaps a 10th -- or 15th -- ranked team would get a bye in addition to a bid, while the second or third ranked team would play an extra game.
The NFL is not an apt pattern.
This may be true but NCAA mimics a whole lot of NFL trends....Portal is Free Agency...Both have highly paid Head Coaches ...Both have huge T.V.deals..and oh both use the running clock...both have review..so NCAA obviously thinks NFL procedures work to the fullest... oh **** I forgot they both have a playoff format...No, it's not fair. Exactly some team isn't going to be happy every season..either because didn't get in or where they're seeded...lol never ending argument..!!!That was the theory used to have the current committee pick the top 4 teams. If you're not even one of the top 4 teams, then you have no right to whine about not being able to play for the national championship. Yet here we sit with teams all over the nation whining constantly. No matter how many teams you let into the playoffs, there will ALWAYS be whining from those teams that are left out. Just look at the "Bubble Teams" every year in the NCAA basketball tournament.
