What would be the impact of banning "walk-ons"?

I'm not getting worked up about this stuff because there's nothing I can do about it, except to point out that establishing caps is the dream of those who cheat with impunity due to NCAA corruption and favoritism. And I've done that more than once. Overall, it's clear that the NCAA has made this huge mess, and wants fans to blame the players. That's a way to restore the NCAA's power. Anyway, this is noteworthy.

All that follows are quotes (except where noted by brackets) from the articles linked below.

tl;dr Just read the next 2 paragraphs.

An overshadowed but impactful piece of the proposed new model [of player compensation being discussed by the NCAA and the SEC at our league's meeting this past week] is the addition of roster limits by sport and the expansion of scholarships [for sports other than football].

As part of a proposed new athlete compensation model, power conference leaders are considering significantly reducing football rosters, potentially moving from a roster of more than 115 to as few as 85-95 players. That figure (85) aligns with the maximum scholarship number permitted under NCAA rules. [That essentially means banning or limiting "walk-ons."]

While the model features new roster limitations, it removes scholarship restrictions by permitting schools to expand financial aid to the entirety of a sport’s roster positions.

For example, under current rules, the NCAA permits schools to distribute 11.7 scholarships across a baseball roster of 32 players. [This restriction on baseball scholarships is a consequence of Title IX.] Under a potential new model, a school could, if it chooses, distribute full scholarships across all 32 spots [limited only by roster limits, rather than by scholarship limits].

However, the new roster limit for baseball and other sports has not been defined. Those briefed on the matter caution that the idea is only under consideration. Conversations are steadily evolving.

The concepts, circulated across administrative meetings over the last week, is part of what could be a sweeping and historic transformation of the industry in the coming few months — all of it rooted in a settlement agreement of various antitrust lawsuits. Any settlement of these cases — House, Hubbard and Carter — is expected to feature as much as $2.9 billion in back damages for former players, a future revenue sharing model with current athletes[,] and an overhaul of the NCAA scholarship and roster structure.

Negotiations over a settlement are deep enough that NCAA and college executives are [discussing] plans of a new compensation model, including a permissive revenue-sharing concept that could see schools distribute to athletes more than $20 million annually starting as soon as 2025.

so it begins lol

(I don’t think he takes that job if it comes open unless they pony up an irrational amount of cash we wouldn’t match)

I think tony is currently 2nd highest paid coach in the country. So that number would have to be basketball coach level

Edit: tony is 4th. Corbin makes 2.4, Bianco makes 1.6m, shloss makes 1.55 and tony makes 1.5

All deez bishes fantasizing about stealing Tony. That is, when they're not ranting about how much they hate him. 😂

He. Ain't. Leaving.

Pal and his son (which is now run by a young CEO - Haslam CoB grad), made it a point to only grow the business regionally.

Pal's continues to put money into its Nationally recognized culinary training program. They built a location last year on John B Dennis, and that was considered substantial for them.

Cookout has 326 locations. Pals has 30.

Pals is continuing to pour more money into its training facility. And, based on information ive gathered will continue to do that. They have 0 desire to grow beyond that. Id say as long as Rick is alive the legacy will stay in tact.

Additionally they do so much with their marketing through Eastman, and be the best Regional brand they can be. They are extremely proud of this, to a point where they created a brand called Creative Energy. Lauds itself as a premier marketing company, that competes with razor thin budgets.

Anyway, their business model continues to be extremely conservative. Finding ways to cut operational costs instead of generate revenue, such as having one of the fastest times from order to finish.

Really an interesting company. Theyve been a client for years. In fact they routinely host visitors from other, larger companies at their facility next to Eastman, to show them examples of their Nationally Recognized training program.

Good people.

Long and short, comparing Cookout to Pals is apples and bananas.
Rick and I graduated in the same class from DB - good folks.

PS - I called him “Ricky” back then 😁

Yes, but they did not have an SEC logo in DKR before. They are in direct competition with the schools in the SEC now. Same could be true for OU.

What would UT's recruiting standard be if we had a conference logo that was not SEC? That standard would be greatly diminished.
Tennessee could be an Independent school
and they would still have a Top 15 class because of the tradition and the recruiting hotbed they are smack dab in the middle of
