The Serrano teams were smaller than some little league teams.
He was a great west coast coach and tried to bring small ball to the SEC. He found out that doesn't work in the best conference in America and the rest is history. Power hitting and power pitching is the name of the game in the SEC

What Tony has done at Tennessee with not much support in the first 4-5 years with facilities and baseball history in the back half of the conference is like if someone took Kansas football to the CFP multiple times. It’s just remarkable. Not to mention being in the same state as another powerhouse and great coach In Corbin and Vanderbilt during their dominance. Also Kevin O’Sullivan at Florida being in the same division as well as multiple other strong programs in conference that had a leg up with facilities and money. If it can be done in baseball there’s no excuses for the other sports of Football, Basketball, WBB and Softball
Most people are too obtuse to catch the backhanded slam at Huepel and Barnes...I am not.

**** that narrative...don't push it. I am thankful to have all three..Barnes and Heupel are no less fiery and competitive in their job than Vitello.

I really appreciate them all after the sewage filled swamp we've had to endure for a looooong time.

I'm always skeptical of the new "thing" but I tried on some on clouds and dang if they weren't fantastically comfortable for those couple minutes. Hopefully that lasts.

Also on sale and close enough to Tennessee colors to wear on game day!View attachment 647631
You guys have sold me...I'm going try some..I love my Skechers, they feel awesome new, but the insoles that make them feel so great wear out in a few months.

But...these OCs cost 2-3 times more...so hopefully they last 2-3 times longer.

I am struck by the difference between this team and 22..that was one of the best teams to ever play college baseball, but when ND got them to a game 3 they really played in their heads that day...you could see and feel the tension on them, I think the leaders on this team remember that and learned from it..they went out there yesterday pissed and focused and blew Evansville off the field.

They may not win the title, but they are a mentally great baseball team.

'24 team stands on bidness

Just got my Phil Steele College Football Preview Mag.

Have to admit I was reading through it like:

Phil's Top 40 (where he thinks each team will FINISH the season):
1 UGA
2 Ohio St
3 Oregon
4 Texas
5 PSU
6 ND
7 Bama
8 Utah
9 Michigan
10 Miami

16 Boise St
17 VaTech
18 Missouri
19 LSU
20 Oklahoma
21 UTSA
22 SMU
23 Kansas St
24 Vols - Expectations were high for Nico and then he was MVP of the bowl win over Iowa. They only face the 52nd hardest schedule and have the SEC's 3rd easiest schedule. (this doesn't seem like sound reasoning to have us ranked low???)
25 USC
26 Memphis
27 Liberty
28 TAMU
29 Iowa St
30 Ariz
31 NCSU
32 Louisville
33 Nebraska
34 UNC
35 WVU
36 TTU
37 KU
38 App St
39 UK
40 Louisiana

Phil Steele All-SEC Team:
1st Team - Pearce
2nd Team - Mays
3rd Team - S White, Norman-Lott
4th Team - Sampson, Spraggins, J Ross (punter)

Phil Notes on Vols:

QB - Iamaleava is the most hyped QB here since Peyton Manning. He has great size at 6'6 215 and is mechanically sound. Expectations are high for Nico who should excel in Heupel's offense and is a dangerous dual threat QB.
RB - With only 1 of their top 3 RB back from last year, they are not nearly as experienced or deep. Seldon and Keith will step into larger roles and they added state track champ Peyton Lewis.
WR - Four of their top 6 are back and should stay healthier.
OL - Return 112 career starts. Will be among the top OL in the country this year.
DL - Have 10 back that recorded double digit tackles last year. Remains a strength.
LB - No returning starters, but Banks thinks they will be better than last year if they stay healthy.
DB - Added 3 experienced transfers but secondary is the biggest concern heading into 2024. No returning starters.
ST - Kicker could be a concern.

Offense: Went from 46.1 ppg in 2022 to 31.8 ppg in 2023, will bump to 36 ppg this season.
Defense: Look solid up front but lose all seven starts from the defense back 7.
2024 Outlook: This year they are more potent on offense but do look weaker on defense. They do draw the 3rd easiest schedule in the SEC avoiding Texas, Ole Miss and LSU but do travel to OU and UGA and host Bama. They could top last year's 9 win total if the back 7 on defense mature quickly.

*Personal Note: I think Phil has lost his touch or he's been feeding his computers bad data. I think he has got a really, really bad read on us. I respect Phil a lot but I think he's lost. I don't agree with a lot of his other team rankings and notes either. Projections are way off, and I think he went safe/conservative with his top 20.
Example of looking at numbers on the surface without context. We lost starting back 7 on D, but they were pretty bad. It would almost be hard for us not to be better on the backend.
