Recruiting Football Talk VII

What I’ve said…just go with recent history. Morris, Bieliema and John L Smith. All losing records before you get to Petrino, who was a different type of disaster. Arkansas fans are like a family of plumbers who think their bloodlines descended from royalty.

This is basically how I feel, but with South Carolina. I already see people wanting him fired, and I honestly don’t know who they think they can get that would be better. The Gamecocks have a ceiling. They don’t have the history or resources that bigger schools do. They are better off giving Shane Beamer time to see if he can learn on the job over an extended period of time than doing the hiring/firing cycle bigger schools try to land someone.

can i add this as a pet peeve of mine….. i dislike all the fans that just start showing up when we start winning… Support the Vols through good times and the bad.

Every school is gonna have its bandwagons but I’m proud for the majority of our fanbase that stuck through the horrid years we’ve endured. Packing Neyland during that era was nothing short of remarkable

He has no more technical knowledge than Ellarbee and has never recruited at his UGA level outside of Athens. Good sounding board if he’s interested, but he’ll have plenty of opportunities to be an on-field if not HC.
I feel like he has recruited well at both UNC and Arkansas. His players love him and outside of this year, his OL's have been solid. His 2012 year at TN we had a tremendous offense. Just had Sunseri as DC unfortunately. We average 480yards of offense per game that year and averaged 160 yards rushing per game with Rajon Neal, Marlon Lane and Devrin Young as tailbacks. I thought he was a good OL coach and was hoping Butch would keep him.

South Carolina’s board is pretty typical. Hand wringing and pissed off, with the Super Bowl comments and all it’s pretty boring.

However, they are VERY salty about losing James Pearce to us now. There are several talking about how big of a blow him flipping to us was and how it was a major impact in the game last night. Some even believe it could’ve been the difference in a W or L, but that’s just wishful thinking. It was a 21 point game, not a 7 point game.

Not sure why they think they lost JP to us. It was either us or Georgia. SC was a non factor in that recruitment down the stretch.

They’re bitter because they targeted Kirby Smart and UGA fired Richt to get him first. They should console themselves that he would always have left WHENEVER that job became available.

I love the fandom arguments between who's more realist than anyone else. (Not at you, by the way.)

If fans were truly being realistic, we'd all admit that it's a game, played by kids and young adults that we will probably never meet, and unless we've bet diaper money on the outcome it won't have deep affect on any of our lives in the things that'll truly matter.
What is wrong with you today??? Tennessee football definitely matters! My life is better when we are winning!

You can take your loser mentality to the SCar board.

He didn’t recruit one single OL that played at UT and I reiterate HAS NEVER RECRUITED AT THE UGA LEVEL at any other stop. He had one 4 star OL at UNC who ended up a first round pick but his average OL recruit at Arkansas was a coachable 3 star. Matt Luke and now Stacy Searels haven’t missed a beat coaching and recruiting in Athens. Big uglies are like herds that gravitate towards where the grazing is greener. If we didn’t have Ellarbee, I’d be ecstatic to land him as an OL coach (and that line forms to the left), but he’s not an upgrade to what we have imo.

It will be hard to have patience with a guy like Beamer…his personality and antics will wear thin if they don’t have some significant success fairly soon.

This is so delusional……SC never had a chance to win that game. I never thought that game was in jeopardy. I wonder at what point being down multiple scores he thought they had a chance to win.
We literally dominated every aspect of the game. They only scored 2 tds after an int and when the lb’s and safeties didn’t fill run lanes correctly on that big play. Besides that they struggled to move the ball all game and had to fight for every yard they got. Dude’s mental if he saw anything other than that lmao.

My caveat is that if they are giving their all for Tennessee, then I would never get upset.

If they are getting beat and obviously mailing it in like the dooley teams did, then I get upset. But I am still never going to boo them.

With that being said, there’s no quit in this team and that’s why I am firmly in favor of

14-1 🤠
It's what I love the most about Heupel and his teams since he took over, his teams never quit. S Carolina last year is the only game, in Huep's three years, that they should've just stayed at the house, and never played. Something was off in that game from the very beginning.

No other game, however, even moreso in the losses, have his teams quit, and stopped playing hard till it was over. Even Florida a couple of weeks ago, they played much better in the second half, but were never given a fair shot at mounting a comeback. Heup's teams have never quit since he took over, and that has bought him more credit with me than anything else...also, all three years, they have gotten better as the season has gone on.

I know it’s in this thread somewhere but does anyone have the pic of Beamer in Neyland for his post-game show with his arms crossed looking sad? I told my Dad I’d send it to him.
