I think Villeneuve gave his all. Exciting early but SEC ball was too much for him. No shame in that. He got a nice photo of himself with the national championship trophy. Wish him well.

Saban was the cheating-est coach in college athletics. From his first year at Bama he was dropping gigantic bags with implicit NCAA permission, and he used this illicit means to pile up 5-stars. The 5-stars are 5-stars exactly because they are rated as the most probably first-round picks.

What Saban was able to do (as well as big-bag Kirby later (since he knew where the bodies were buried at Bama)) was to convince, first, media sycophants and, then, (with greater ease) new recruits that his "coaching" and "system" -- and not the fact that these players had dominant talent -- was wholly responsible for them placing well in the NFL. Kirby is still playing this at UGA.

But Bama can't really deceptively leverage Saban and the Bama system, like they could, as the primary cause of draft picks. They're a good team with a good coach. They'll get theirs, but the story that the media sold for Saban is gone. And most importantly, NIL has erased the crooked advantage of NCAA impunity that Saban absolutely relied while the "po po" went after his rivals. Police corruption.

We beat Saban for some guys before he quit.

Saban himself is now dedicated to restoring the NCAA's crooked tyranny, and overturning the leveling of the playing field brought about by the so-called "wild west" or "freedom from dirty policing. To the best of his lying weasel lobbyist ability. He will have an SEC broadcast mic to help him along.
