Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Might be worst than Pruitt speaking.

That's a C- in a freshman level public speaking course.

And the thing about freshmen in public speaking courses is... They don't have a PR department and speech writer on hand.

Maybe he didn't use them or maybe he didn't know he had them. Maybe this is all a sign of why Chip Kelly left.

Not sure why they need that many more scholarships for football. I could see that negatively effecting smaller schools.
They are doing this as a step toward eliminating walk ons.

If it worked out that all the walk ons get scholarships, just like that, then great.

Who knows what the actual effect will be.

I feel like an old man saying this but I’m not too excited about the development going up. I’m sure it’ll be cool and all, but I am afraid it will taint the “college town” vibe and hometown feel.

Depends how many end up transferring by year end.

It's just astonishing how many teams are taking 30-45 commits a year. Would be nice to at least get in 30 solid commits.
Since I asked this question it was posted that the NCAA was upping the scholarship number’s substantially……”never mind “ as a famous comedian once said.

He would only catch it if it was extremely difficult. If he was wide open, he'd drop it
When he wasn’t dropping them, he was misjudging them so it looked like he was overthrown, when in reality, he slowed down on his route before realizing his mistake and speeding back up, only to come up short.

He did that enough times to count on two hands. Including the Iowa game.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Does anyone care to speculate on why we we’re able to recruit areas like Georgia so well even in our down years? I know we used to recruit there a lot better in past years but that seems to be shifting in our favor once again. Just wondering why a state with 2(well, it used to be 2) strong football programs aren’t able to keep their in state guys from coming here.

Georgia gets who they want, but cant get everyone.

sucks

Agreed but the WRs still have to do much better. They dropped a lot of easily catchable balls last year. Yes Milton put plenty of passes where they couldn’t catch them but he also made quite a few good throws that were dropped.
Milton also had close to no touch. All of his passes were coming in way too hot.

They do. That said Tennessee has stole a few eggs from their Easter basket this year. That really hasn’t happened in the past. Tennessee has won some battles against Bama, Georgia, Ohio state, Clemson. We haven’t really even competed in the past with those schools in recruiting. We’re not only competitive now we’re winning some. Win off the field will lead to wins on the field.
We used to get some players from georgia. still do, ones we DO get and got were legends

Sorry 90% of them…
We should definitely see an improvement in QB play this year. Nico (I believe) can process better, has more touch, and will likely be more accurate.

But that doesn’t change the fact that WR play was subpar last year. Keyton’s drop of a TD against aTm was a perfectly thrown touch pass by Milton. He lofted it into his hands. The drop against UVA, same. There were many others. Thornton and Bru had some bad drops too that weren’t the result of hard throws.

One reason for excitement is that we should see an improvement in both QB and WR play this year. I think the latter was worse than the former in 2023…but both were below the level we need.
