Recruiting Football Talk VIII

We should definitely see an improvement in QB play this year. Nico (I believe) can process better, has more touch, and will likely be more accurate.

But that doesn’t change the fact that WR play was subpar last year. Keyton’s drop of a TD against aTm was a perfectly thrown touch pass by Milton. He lofted it into his hands. The drop against UVA, same. There were many others. Thornton and Bru had some bad drops too that weren’t the result of hard throws.

One reason for excitement is that we should see an improvement in both QB and WR play this year. I think the latter was worse than the former in 2023…but both were below the level we need.
You should also see more of the playbook which opens the offense up to being more explosive

They are doing this as a step toward eliminating walk ons.

If it worked out that all the walk ons get scholarships, just like that, then great.

Who knows what the actual effect will be.
I mean those caliber players would then have to play for someone else. If you have twenty extra scholarships then you'll have d1 scholarship athletes take them.

I feel like an old man saying this but I’m not too excited about the development going up. I’m sure it’ll be cool and all, but I am afraid it will taint the “college town” vibe and hometown feel.
Our whole state is undergoing a change of image---and not a cosmetic one done by PR specialists.

We are better off financially than any other state and most countries, and the world is coming to our door for shelter. Our state treasury has a surplus. We don't have a state income tax. Our state legislature is being lauded, followed, and copied by other state legislatures who are trying to insulate their states from federal chaos and debt trap schemes.

This ol' hillbilly state is now recognized around the world as a destination for people wanting to return to bedrock values--and they're bringing their money, too.

Change is everywhere, and Tennessee might be one of the best places to sort it out and ride it out. But success is probably the hardest thing for people to survive intact.

Ok….all you haters can at least get behind my Govs vs Vandy….

Maybe. Maybe not. Supply and demand takes over at a certain point. There are a finite number of D1 caliber players. And I don't know how many players in the two-deep at MTSU would prefer to be running scout team and not wearing pads on game day at Tennessee.

Maybe it's a lot. I don't know.

Well Keyton is gone 😅
Something interesting that no one seemed to notice… during fall camp last year. I remember him talking about the receivers having some standard of catching a certain number of balls. He was giving props to Spillman for exceeding the goal and admitted he didn’t reach the standard.
