Recruiting Football Talk VIII

In my opinion UGA’s offense will not be as strong as long as Bobo is OC. Losing Monken was a big loss, but UGA also lost Buster Faulkner who was Monken’s right hand man. Faulkner is now OC at GaTech. Bobo last year had the carry over from Monken and Faulkner. Losing Bower and Ladd is also huge. They are beatable

I love our stormtroopers as much as any variation we wear; but, these have always been my favorite road uni's...

Will always hold their place in my heart, not only because of this game, but because that day was really the first time I can remember really liking them.

Also love the all white...

Second best aspect of Chuck Webb highlights is that top uniform. Looked downright savage imo.

Point of revenue sharing was to give the players a cut of the already HUGE pie they're mostly responsible for, an add-on fee means the fans are basically on the hook for paying for it.
I look at it as Premium Athletic Department. The same way I pay a Premium subscription for any other service that brings me value or joy.

I enjoy being entertained by Tennessee Athletics year-round. Basketball, Baseball, Football, recruiting...

As long as the product and my experience is premium, I do not mind paying a premium to support it.

That being said, I do understand why some people disagree with NIL and moves like this in general. No judgment on them.

So here's my big annoyance.

Per UT's own reporting the university made over $200 million in revenue in 2023.

The meteoric rise was due to record levels of self-generated income for Tennessee Athletics. Ticket sales increased over 13 percent from $35.1 million in FY 2022 to $39.7 million in FY 2023, while contributions saw a historic jump of over 90 percent from $32.7M in FY 2022 to $62.2M in FY 2023.
Concessions and parking also saw a dramatic rise of 83 percent ($12.2M) from the previous year, while royalties, licensing, and sponsorships grew 34 percent ($23.9M) over the last 12 months.

So all the increase came directly from the fans ALREADY.

If you open the 80 page report you'll see that the real problem could be solved by eliminating sports that are costing more than they make OR finding a way to improve their revenue.

Football made 75+ million over expenses.
Men's Basketball 5+ million over expenses.
Women's Basketball 5 million under expenses. (this was impacted by KJH buyout and new hire, should level off some)
"other sports" 36+ million under expenses. If you don't include baseball in this category it's a lot worse
"non-program specific" 28+ million under expenses.

So somehow with over 200 million in revenue the total excess ended up being 11 million. Even if their ticket sales DON'T decrease with the 10% increase that's only adding 4 million a year and it wouldn't be counted as revenue excess as they'd write it off as an expense since it's for the student athletes.

I fully grasp where college athletics, primarily football, is going so I get the increases. I’m old school so I don’t necessarily agree with it but I’ve known the direction this is headed. It’s unfortunate for anyone, particularly families, that used to be able to go to games for a fair price but have other financial obligations/priorities that are more important than a college football game. For those folks, going to games isn’t a viable option. Again, I see the other side of the coin but it sucks for those that don’t have money to just throw at college sports.

I prepared for it. Bought a new couch in the summer to be able to watch the games because they are pricing me out of being able to afford to go to any more games. Sad but true.
Facts. Especially with how steep the hotel pricing goes too

For me it would be, wake up early, 3 hour drive over, watch game, 3 hour drive home in the dark (I hate driving in the dark especially late at night).

Would much rather have friends and family over to grill out and watch the game

I don't mind if we keep rolling in top5ish classes and winning 10+ every year while dominating the portal. Drop back down to 7 or 8 wins and keep milking the fans for player funds and it probably won't go well.
Exactly my thoughts… getting hammered by Georgia, Bama or Texas at Neyland and not winning or at least being in championship games and this won’t go well. They want this they need to be expected to win and recruit at an elite level. No excuses

World is increasingly moving in a haves and have-nots direction. A lot of people have a lot of money these days. But even more people don't. Sucks. Middle class isn't long for this society.

I have no issue with the 10% talent fee.

It does directly to the Student Athlete and it is all about the new Rev Share, separate from NIL.

I appreciate the transparency. The 10% doesn't even cover the $30+ million that is required and only covers about a 1/3 of it.

You want to be part of this new world order and at the top - this is what it takes.

Some teams are going back to old school football ground and pound. Setting up the pass.

People can Call Jim Harbaugh a piece of **** all they want but his Chargers are 2-0 with the run game as primary offense with a multi million dollar QB playing game manager.
I also heard a discussion on the radio about defenses playing not give up the big play. They are making teams play more methodical.

Be cool if we had a game thread to expend our energy on. 🤨
