Sorry if already discussed, I’m behind quite a few pages, but something I’ve been reflecting on is compared to 2021 and 2022 one of the biggest discrepancies is our 1Q performances. Our opening drive scripts don’t seem to be as close to effective and we have a hard time generally scoring.
Feels like two decades ago that we went on the road and scored 28 in the first quarter against Missouri.
Considering NC State and Arkansas both had 7 and 9 minute drives to open the game, and our possessions are being severely limited, if I’m Heupel I’m seriously considering taking the ball first against Florida and trying to establish some early momentum. Getting an early lead could go a LONG way to building some confidence for Nico and getting the crowd into it.
Heup keeps mentioning that teams are coming out showing a different structure than what they’ve put on film all year. Said it after both OU and ARK. So the adjustment that other programs have made is they’re showing Heup something he hasn’t seen from them before.
I do remember hearing him say that. But, to be honest, if that’s the case that’s not actually a great reflection on Heupel. It means he’s getting out-schemed and out-coached and struggling to make adjustments. If that’s the case, it doesn’t instill much confidence in the rest of this season if simply showing something different is all it takes to completely stonewall our offense.
You gotta think it’s gonna take a few series to adjust to something totally different than what you’ve been prepping for all week. And I’m sure it’s disguised to where it takes a few series to even figure it out.
What was the fan doing?
“It doesn’t matter” all I needed to see lolIt doesn’t matter, that’s the thing. That’s called character.
It’s not a mark against Big O’s character overall but being taught there are consequences for your actions is sorta part of the whole coaching and mentoring thing.
Perhaps there were extenuating circumstances and he’s not punished (although I’m sure even if we don’t see it he’ll be punished). But if he is I’m guessing it’s justified.
I guess. But it’s not like we ever figured it out. We scored 14 points. All 14 right out of halftime. We were scoreless in 3.5 quarters. So whatever adjustments Heupel made didn’t seem to work all that well. Its just a troubling trend.
The tempo and pace are nonexistent. We did it on the two scoring drives. And it worked. We aren’t running the same offense for sure.Sorry if already discussed, I’m behind quite a few pages, but something I’ve been reflecting on is compared to 2021 and 2022 one of the biggest discrepancies is our 1Q performances.
