Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Nico is coming around
Heard is still young…. 6 starts now probably so he’s actually just like Nico

I bet he’s a stud next year with another year in a college program but he did get better as the game went along

But yes I did say he sucked quite a few times last night

I wish we would try him at RT and Davis at left

Oh, I don't know. Maybe the university pantsing them publicly and sicking the state AG on them with lawsuits that stripped their greatest power, after telling them to get bent when they tried to come back at us over Pruitt.

That seems pretty special.

And, ftr, I think the biggest anomaly isn't the holds called on us. It's the lack of calls on our opponents.

SEC has their own refs. The conference is on Vol’s side vs the NCAA. Anything that takes power from NCAA and gives more of it the conference, they’re gonna be on board.

I agree tons of holds are missed on opposing OLs. But I see it all across college football. The officiating is atrocious in the sport. But you get what you pay for.

Frustration I get.........I was too, but full meltdown. Nah.

Several are saying, "Nico sucks" "Waste of $8M"
Yeah don’t check my game thread post history. But that’s mostly for letting it all out during the games for me. I’m not waking up on Sunday morning ready to burn down the school like the FF 🤣

I think I was just mad because I was looking at past WRs and noticed Javonta Payton had more TDs in a single season for us (6) than Bru and Squirrel do combined in their WHOLE careers.

Just overreacting, that’s all.
It’s alright, man..happens to the best of us but we’re all Vol fans..that’s all that matters in the end.😏

The two biggest indictments thus far onnthis regime:

1- situation with the OL, lack of development has to be addressed.

the line we saw in OT drive, is line we saw versus NC State, and OK.

Is it effort? Is it talent? Is it scheme? Those are all on the coaches.

2- WR separation.

Thornton and Squirrel are consistently the only open WR's, that can make hand or contested catches. Also, seem to be only 'open' receivers.

The plan this game was so much better. We do better when we distribute the ball. Saw Davis and Notre Dame dude getting involved. Saw Sampson targeted for passes. Even saw Nico rolling left and right.

Offense took a step in that regard. It is evolving.

Meanwhile, if our WR's arent getting separation. Then what're we doing? Doesnt do us any good to have Braylon Staley and Mike Matthews ride the pine.

Where is their development? Get them some touches. Scheme something up. We HAVE to get them involved to break a big TD to best Bama.

Another thing: On Nico.

His regression from dead accurate to inaccurate. Makes me wonder if he is fighting an injury no one is aware of?

Unless you have the all-22 film there is zero way to know if more receivers are open. I would *guess* they are and Nico isn’t seeing them / isn’t trusting what he sees.

Maybe unpopular opinion: I thought the play calling was much better last night. You saw them trying to do different things like rolling Nico out. We also schemed men open down field which we didn’t see in the Arkansas game.

Like I said last night, IF we start executing Bama is absolutely beatable
Yeah, I like how Heupel is willing to make the necessary adjustments when something isn’t working and we need points.

1 I agree 100%.
2: evidently you and Nico have the same vision.
Their have been many times the last few games where WR’s we’re very open and we didn’t get them the ball

No I watched blue chip breakdown and he,s got the film and it’s there to see.

Watching LSU QB last night. Dude was throwing before WR made his break.

Let me preface, I'm happy with where we are at QB. LSU QB is streaky. But that throw is one Nico was making earlier in the year.

What happened? Also, confidence in carrying the ball. Needs to be more decisive instead of running out of bounds. Maybe they can design some runs?

I can’t help but read all your posts in that preachy, high-pitched voice that Barney gets when he’s talking to Andy about modernizing their policing procedures.

One other thing. I dont think these receivers are super talented.

YAC: They can make big plays only if you hit them in stride.

Brazzell made a big play then ghosted. If a guy is giving max effort, and making a play. Why does he disappear? How can a QB get in rythm. We have talent, but it isnt getting utilized?

We'd rather send the hospital ward out there

Our WRs this year look a whole lot different with a 5th year Hooker throwing them the ball
This.

Where is this "wr aren't getting separation" coming from? Our WR are getting tons of separation. There's someone open most plays.

And a big part of why they don't get separation on those plays where there's nobody open is because teams are able to get pressure by just rushing 4, so they have extra defenders in the secondary.

When you watch other games, you see tons of separation when a team rushes 4 because the qb has all day to sit back and let routes develop.

Any problems with our offense begin with the OL. Others have issues too, but until coaches figure out scheme, motivation, or whatever else is ailing the OL, nothing else matters. We all saw Nico drop dimes and never miss in the first 3 games with no pressure. He's got the talent. The OL is the main issue here.
