Recruiting Football Talk VIII

He’s getting closer. Right now even if his short passes aren’t where they need to be which leads me to believe he’s not trusting what he’s seeing still. Guys having to stop momentum to catch the ball. But we know he has it in him bc he did it the beginning of this year. Put it on the money where WR never had to break stride.
Nico was throwing into NFL tight windows in the FCS games. I know the competition was less, but why is it so much different now?

Yeah, I was thinking real-time this is a rule change coming like after the MCB vs. UNC. Should reset the clock as if a dead-ball foul.
In high school it's a 15 yard penalty if all 12 players are actually playing. Bitntje refs will kill the play before the snap to avoid that if they count 12 players before the snapI.

f the 12th player is running off but doesn't get off in time, it's 5 yards, but I can see college switching to a 15 yarder for actually playing 12.

Would be a rare rule change where college adapts a high school rule, but I think it's a good one. Kill the play before it even starts if there are more than 11.

The Titans may win today if Anthony Richardson plays QB for the Colts.

I not even thinking about a victory for the Cowboys today. 3 of 4 DL starters are out, MLB out, 2nd best CB out. Plus couldn't stop the run healthy, just imagine what it will look like vs Detroit and that OL with those 2 stud RB's they have. Going be a long day in Jerry's World.

It will be pretty interesting to see how the fanbase responds to two ugly wins in a row at home over our most bitter rivals. We should be overjoyed at that result but if the offense still struggles there will be a lot of unhappy fans, which will be ridiculous.
My complaining will be gone if we beat Bama. My concern is I'm hoping we haven't seen the writing on the wall and we end up 8-4. Which is fine in the grand scheme of things but man that's a gut punch to expectations.

Are you talking about the pass where the DB reached out and held Nimrod then let go to make him half a step slower and wasn't called for anything?. Which of course was how far away the ball was from Nimrod?
Exactly. Happens a lot. Happened all year last year.

Now, if the holding is so obvious that it is somewhat embarrassing not to have seen by the official looking right at it, no worries! The well-placed ball now looks "overthrown" as a result of the no-call, therefore the catchable ball is called "uncatchable." The no-call gets justified either way.

"Mystery of the White House Cornerstone"

On October 13, 1792, a group of Masons wearing their embroidered aprons performed the solemn ceremony of laying a cornerstone at the site of the President’s House. This edifice was later to be known as the White House.

The location of the President’s House had been chosen by none other than George Washington aided by Pierre Charles L’Enfant.

The cornerstones used in ceremonies often became a decorative marker on the exterior of the building with inscriptions bearing the construction date and the name of the architect and/or owner of the building.

It is natural that Freemasons, who use allegorical references to a heritage linking the fraternity to the builders of the great cathedrals in Europe, would have developed a public cornerstone ceremony. During the ceremony, the participating Masons examine the stone to ensure it is of correct dimensions using a square, plumb and level. The cornerstone is then consecrated with a sprinkling of corn, wine, and oil as symbols of prosperity, health and peace before asking for a blessing from the “Great Architect of the Universe”.

In the 200+ years since George Washington laid the historic cornerstone at the President’s House, one would think that the commemorative stone would have become a “must-see” for tourists. It has not. Why? Because it has seemingly disappeared!

Countless theories and speculations have arisen about who could have taken the large stone. Despite inspections of the building, including one launched by President Harry S. Truman (himself a Mason) when the White House underwent extensive renovations in 1948, the cornerstone has not been found.

There has been considerable speculation by scholars as well as “treasure hunters” about what happened to the missing cornerstone. Masons at the ceremony could have carried it off for “safekeeping” with plans to return it to the construction site at a later date. It is assumed that at least some of the men who participated in the cornerstone ceremony might have retired to a nearby tavern for refreshments. Could the stone have been accidentally left at the tavern? Or, could a nefarious anti-Masonic group have absconded with the stone after the Masons left the building site? Perhaps, it was just a case of the stone having been misplaced during the rest of the construction process or, considering that so many buildings were simultaneously under construction in the Capitol, could the stone have been accidentally used in building another edifice?

Conspiracy theories abound but only time will tell if historians in the future can unravel the “Mystery of the Missing White House Cornerstone”.

I hate to bring up the 2009 season, but one thing I always remember about that season was the offense and Crompton really struggling early in the season. In the game against Auburn, the offense was non-existant until the 4th quarter where they suddenly were clicking. The playcalling looked different and Crompton looked in command. The next week they whipped UGA. I think we saw a little bit of that at the end of the game last night. I'm not saying they'll come out against Alabama and look great, but I'm optimistic that the offense figured out a few things late in the game. I really liked the playcalling in OT with some of the quick passes. Do that early to help Nico settle in and get some confidence, then be opportunistic with the deep throws.

It was a 7:30 game that was heading to OT near midnight due to all of the fake injuries and how it was played. One of the longest games I've ever seen.
Even normal games are longer than they've ever been with less actual playing time than there's ever been. It's really a bad experience in the stadium, but even at home it's starting to be tedious.

The new 2 minute warning is a great example. That's 5 extra minutes added to the game with no actual additional playing time. They changed the clock rules to eliminate game time while adding more and longer commercial breaks. Add in the fake injuries and games are regularly approaching 4 hours. That used to be the exception.

If Pittman is let go after the season, I beg Tennessee to bring him back to Knoxville.
He's done, he's said over and over he's retiring after arky.

Also, he doesn't love Tennessee. He said he's never heard of someone other than him being fired after having one of the best offensive lines in the country.

I watched that play over and over. I didn't see Nimrod slow down even a little.

I did see the ball go right through Nimrod's hands.

Lets talk about revisionist history..

Hendon Hooker got thrown on the trash heap after his first 2 years at VT because their impatient idiot fans did what our impatient idiot fans are doing....that is obviously how we got him to start with, NOBODY here was excited about getting him..

Hendon didn't become a great QB right off the bat or overnight...it took a few years of learning and seeing.

Let's run off Nico for not being a polished super quarterback as a freshman, and watch him go win the Heisman somewhere else his Jr or Sr year...that should be fun..😒
And Hendon still didn't start until a few games into his redshirt sophomore season.

(Any VT fan I knew loved him and hated he left)

To their credit I'm not sure their fanbase is as dumb as ours. It's amazing how some people forgot that player's tend to get better over time. I have a theory that JG broke our fanbase's ability to asses QB play. They start overreacting to literally any mistake a QB makes.

This might be negative or positive depending on how you take it.

The longer Heupel is at Tennessee the more I am beginning to think he is our Mark Richt. Brings the team back from wandering the desert for 15 years and makes them respectable again.

Will occasionally flash every couple years and have a great team. Good but not elite recruiting always missing just a few pieces.

Richt did a lot of good for UGA and so has Heupel for UT, but I think they are born of the same cloth.

Another thing: On Nico.

His regression from dead accurate to inaccurate. Makes me wonder if he is fighting an injury no one is aware of?

Honestly I was thinking that or he just hasn't adjusted to the speed of quality opponents yet. The games we saw him be deadly accurate the OL handled opponents and Nico didn't have to deal with the same pressure. Because of our schedule the game went from practice (almost throwing against air) to real almost overnight for him. Even Hooker who had plenty of experience took two real games to adjust. Nico being a RS Fr is getting every bit of it now and with an OL that can't get out of its own way or even be a speed bump.
