Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I am not a coach but I do notice things. Obviously the OL is not playing well for some reason Period. That has hurt us no doubt BUT Nico has got to make quicker reads. Nico is a real talent and he is young and it has shown but we have got to throw the ball over the middle and a) make the Blitz less effective and b) open up the outside more. The quick outside passes are not working as well as we all hope because the other defenses are stacking the outside as we have become somewhat predictable it seems.

Nico also need to understand one simple thing, We do not need a hero, we need a quarterback. The big plays are great but throwing into coverage more often than not usually does not end well. He needs to take what they give you and make them change what they are doing and get away from changing what we do every week on the fly.

That is what I've seen.......but I could be wrong.

.......……..........................................................!!!!!!!!! Have a great day.
I know what you say. I even pay this much attention:

In the end, you say, it boils down to the fact that because it will never change, it is irritating to hear people complain about the pattern of unjust calls and no-calls that we are enduring. I take that to be an implicit admission that the complaints are justified.

Unpopular take but I enjoy seeing the Vols win in different ways. Love the fastbreak offense but when it’s not rolling it’s fun watching our defense pull opposing teams into a dog fight.
I do too.

That ball strip by Pearce, to take one example, was a great play on the scale of all-time great plays. I was dissappointed to see media accounts of the game refer to that as a fumble by FL rather than a strip by Pearce. It very much distorts the event and Pearce deserves the credit.

Especially after enduring repeated games where permitted holding of our DL is co-signed by Birmingham.

That winning scoring drive was also a classic. Reminded me of the final winning drive against Arky in '98. Simply would not be denied. The blocking came alive and DSamp was not going to take no for an answer. Scored twice, as required! Too bad about the Purdue-style early whistle the first time Sampson rammed it in. That would have been an awesome highlight on all the recaps.

We give Heard & the OL hell and it's deserved a lot of time, but we should give them credit too. They did a good job on Sampson's 23yd TD run. Heard showed he can move. #70 almost cost us big on that play though.
My issue is whar the hayull is that 0:00-60:00?

Are you a golfer?

Imagine you're playing against someone and the rule is that they get five "Gotacha!" screams in the middle of your swing. Not every shot or every hole. Just five a round. They scream in a couple of your swings and all of your swings will probably suffer because you never know when it's coming.

Now imagine you're a college QB. You may not get hit from your blind side every time, but it's happened often enough that you're tensed up and expecting it every time.

Nico will go as far as his trust in the OL will take us, unfortunately.
Im not a golfer, but I get what you’re saying. It is super important these next few weeks to call plays to get nico rolling and try to hide the ol weaknesses

Another thing: On Nico.

His regression from dead accurate to inaccurate. Makes me wonder if he is fighting an injury no one is aware of?

Or wait...here is a novel idea...the competition has ramped up in the last 3 games and it's gonna take him a little time to adjust to it.

The pageantry and traditions are some of the things that make college football the absolute best.

Why would people want to change that?
It's usually the younger generation, who don't fully grasp the history. Playing the opposing team's fight song during pregame is not new. We were doing it under Dr. Julian when I was there over 30 years ago, and it wasn't new then. It's just something we do to "welcome" the other team's fans. It's part of an experience at Neyland Stadium.

Looks like Kiffin's fans are not taking another Ole Miss loss well. :D Kiff needs to invite her to his next pregame video about applying makeup and plans other than football for the postseason.

I like this idea a lot. Even though it limits the offense, it at least makes Nico more effective when WRs get separation and we have an advantage via playcalling. With him rolling out he can relax and know that he (hopefully) only has to account for defenders on the side he's rolling out to. His blindside isn't a factor if he's running away from it right away.

I remember when we played Washington State and they had a QB named Samoa Samoa. The wave was big then and it got going really good, then the sections started stomping their feet going in the opposite direction. Washington State players literally stopped mid game and just watched. Neyland, nothing like it for decades

Yet Bama held steady 🤔
Tennessee loses a road game to inferior competition and then struggles at home against inferior competition but pulls out a win: DROP EM THEY AIN'T THAT GOOD

Alabama loses a road game to inferior competition and then struggles at home against inferior competition but pulls out a win: Mm, yes, quite, Roll Tide, yes, indubitably
