Recruiting Football Talk VIII

@mrMet

The Titans may win today if Anthony Richardson plays QB for the Colts.

I not even thinking about a victory for the Cowboys today. 3 of 4 DL starters are out, MLB out, 2nd best CB out. Plus couldn't stop the run healthy, just imagine what it will look like vs Detroit and that OL with those 2 stud RB's they have. Going be a long day in Jerry's World.
Flacco is playing. We’re cooked.

Id like to see Nico at lease improve a little week to week, but he hasnt shown any sort of improvement since the OU game. I know our OL has really struggled, and that is definitely a part of it, but still, some of his throws has been really inaccurate and decision making has been bad as well
Are you a golfer?

Imagine you're playing against someone and the rule is that they get five "Gotacha!" screams in the middle of your swing. Not every shot or every hole. Just five a round. They scream in a couple of your swings and all of your swings will probably suffer because you never know when it's coming.

Now imagine you're a college QB. You may not get hit from your blind side every time, but it's happened often enough that you're tensed up and expecting it every time.

Nico will go as far as his trust in the OL will take us, unfortunately.

Honestly I was thinking that or he just hasn't adjusted to the speed of quality opponents yet. The games we saw him be deadly accurate the OL handled opponents and Nico didn't have to deal with the same pressure. Because of our schedule the game went from practice (almost throwing against air) to real almost overnight for him. Even Hooker who had plenty of experience took two real games to adjust. Nico being a RS Fr is getting every bit of it now and with an OL that can't get out of its own way or even be a speed bump.
we hope thats it. there are also plenty of folks in the NFL who shine as soon as they take a hit. Lights come on.

I saw Nico stretch for the first down marker. He wants to be a leader. But we need to let him play his game. Huepel may just well be letting him work it out on his own.

This might be negative or positive depending on how you take it.

The longer Heupel is at Tennessee the more I am beginning to think he is our Mark Richt. Brings the team back from wandering the desert for 15 years and makes them respectable again.

Will occasionally flash every couple years and have a great team. Good but not elite recruiting always missing just a few pieces.

Richt did a lot of good for UGA and so has Heupel for UT, but I think they are born of the same cloth.

I swear we did that "game" when I was in high school. You got ONE per nine.
Ya learned to block out sh!+.

I'm not agreeing, but I'd freaking love a Mark richt getting us 10 wins a year for a decade. It would be easier to get our Kirby eventually in that scenario.

Well, that's definitely an opinion.

I hate to bring up the 2009 season, but one thing I always remember about that season was the offense and Crompton really struggling early in the season. In the game against Auburn, the offense was non-existant until the 4th quarter where they suddenly were clicking. The playcalling looked different and Crompton looked in command. The next week they whipped UGA. I think we saw a little bit of that at the end of the game last night. I'm not saying they'll come out against Alabama and look great, but I'm optimistic that the offense figured out a few things late in the game. I really liked the playcalling in OT with some of the quick passes. Do that early to help Nico settle in and get some confidence, then be opportunistic with the deep throws.
IIRC, Jim Chaney was calling plays where Compton only had to look at one side of the field for all of this reads. That was what sparked the Tennessee offense.

wait and see if SEC fines Kirby over this
Kirby says... I didn't see him. I shove people all the time without looking.

Kirby says... The difference between all-white away-team uniforms and our home team colors has never registered for me, as a player or a coach. I didn't know.

Kirby says... He wasn't carrying my child, so it's not a domestic assault. You people are exaggerating.

Kirby says... Slow drivers need to get the F out of my way.

Our WRs this year look a whole lot different with a 5th year Hooker throwing them the ball
Or 6th year

Just pointing that out because I think some don't remember we had a 5th and 6th year Hooker. He would have some struggles with this o-line no doubt, but his scrambling ability is as needed as anything.

Hendon had played in 25 games before he came here. Still didn't even win the starting job at VT until a few games into the season as a R-Soph. He didn't see the field at all as a true freshman and they didn't even let him throw a pass in garbage time as a redshirt freshman in 6 appearances.

Nico is currently way ahead of where Hendon was at this time.

'Tis true.

But in all seriousness, tell the board how right I am. lol

@Orange_Crush is right. ☺️

Heupel definitely showed his feelings on the one called on Campbell. I’m just not sure about what coaches think about it publicly. I know he doesn’t care about a fine, but it’s like they think they lose credibility publicly if they call it out.
Look at how so many imbeciles in this very thread raise hell about it here whenever someone points out the irrefutable pattern.

And Hendon still didn't start until a few games into his redshirt sophomore season.

(Any VT fan I knew loved him and hated he left)

To their credit I'm not sure their fanbase is as dumb as ours. It's amazing how some people forgot that player's tend to get better over time. I have a theory that JG broke our fanbase's ability to asses QB play. They start overreacting to literally any mistake a QB makes.
People on here think QB’s are supposed to be 80-100% on deep balls for some reason. Qb’s aren’t typically perfect on any throw.

Nico will get better on the deep ball I’m sure as he was better at it before the last couple games. A quick fix for his deep throws would just be to lead the receiver inside instead of to the sidelines. It’s something they teach in the high school level to make it easier on both the qb and receiver to complete those.

Also, does anyone think Nico might be hurt? I’ve noticed him a few times against NCSU, OK, and ARK grimacing a little bit while walking to the line after taking a big hit.
