Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I don’t think Sampson will over take Johnson, sadly.

30 less carries, 200 more yards rushing, no fumbles, etc.

Johnson: 7.1 average
Sampson: 5.6 average

He doesn't need to have better stats than Johnson. Tennessee with 1 loss playing in Atlanta after him having a huge game in Athens would be all the voters would really care about.

She has the right work ethic and accountability. She has a system that has clearly worked. The rest will follow and if nothing else we will see consistency. The only real concern i have in the short term is the new coaching staff and her inevitable need for maternity leave. It will get sorted out long term, but it could cause some early issues since the coaching team is new to one another and the team. I think it is a great example for the young women on the team though to have family and career. Most will juggle the same.
Luckily we have two coaches that could take over and not see too much of a drop off (Roman and Lazo)

I do not want to see the woman she brought from Marshall as the coach while she’s gone. I’m gonna be disappointed because she’s been with Kim the longest, but I don’t think she has the knowledge that Roman or Gabe have.

Matt Ray said they expect to get two injured offensive lineman back this game.

I had no idea Tate Ratledge was still out. That’s big if that holds true.
Was this discussed in Georgia's Ole Miss game broadcast? Or in any of the game write ups anywhere? I don't see it.

Anyway, I do see (following your suggestion) that Rutledge (LG) was thought to be one of the best OGs in the nation preseason, and he was missing from last week's GA depth chart. He appears to have been replaced by GA's backup center, who was GA's lowest graded OL in game. Idk.

Who was the second OL out?

Which I think is dumb. I’m sure most people will disagree though.

If that’s the case, Sanders should not be in the running

We rotate more than any defense I’ve seen at UT. I’m not overly concerned about getting worn out as long as we can avoid a string of 3 and outs.

And Georgia isn't a tempo offense so it should allow us to do it with less chaos in getting set too.

Lance Heard was our highest graded OL according to PFF vs Mississippi State

Good to see he’s starting to play better down the stretch

Yeah the OL seems to be solid since the Arkansas game. That game appears to have been a fluke, but also the kick in the pants this team needed

I mean if player A and player B are basically just 200 yards different in rushing yards but player A is playing on a top 10 playoff team that's in a Power 4 conference championship game....I think that's more deserving of the Heisman votes than player B

Otherwise the old Air Raid QBs of Hawaii and Texas Tech should all have Heismans.

Matt didn’t say. It was just a quick blurb on the rocky top rewind. I listen at 1.5 speed but pretty sure Matt was just discussing how their line was bad but they “expected a couple guys back this week.”

I don’t like the match up of our receivers against their Dbs. Other than Bru they are not really physical and they are banged up too. I am afraid that Ga. will make us one dimensional.
Gotta he honest after seeing our WRs for 9 games i dont feel good about them against anyone.

Hopefully youre right about that though

Need to get the linebacker sorted out.
Since Pili went down they've struggled to fill the right gap against the run. Can't let UGA pound right at us

Starting to get 2006 Georgia game vibes. Feel like we might throttle them. Their O is dysfunctional and I feel like we’ll be able to wear the defense down

I’d love it. One of my favorite all time games in the series. Georgia also seems to have had its bubble burst. Their fans are losing confidence and the team doesn’t seem to have that killer edge, except for the Texas game.

I’m still wary though. Road games in the SEC are tough. I think the spread is right, and a double digit loss isn’t out of the question.

But there’s still something that makes me think we have a punchers chance and this will be a close rock fight. We will see.

That's absolutely no excuse for GA losing. I never hear it mentioned in connection with our only loss that we had no functioning OTs for that game (or the previous game).

Plus, the preseason ratings, at least, said GA had the deepest and best depth at OL in the nation this year, second only to Bama (who we beat with their OL at full strength).
