Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Columbia, TN? We stopped there once. Went to see the Polk house, wondered around the old downtown, ate some good grub. Somewhere there were photos and memorabilia from Mule Days through the years. I think at Puckett's. Enjoyed it.

The mules that draw the carriages in New Orleans are from Columbia.
Born, raised and still live here. It’s gotten bigger and more populated over the years but still has the small town feel.

Regardless of the outcome on Saturday, the season isn't over. UT has to get to 10 wins for any playoff shot. And, I wouldn't be completely surprised if Georgia Tech couldn't beat UGA or even Auburn put one good game together and beat Bama. What this weekend gives UT is a further chance to control their own playoff destiny.

I think Nico plays.

I also think that if we start the game, first couple of quarters, playing like we have been, turning the ball over or watching wide open WR's get overthrown as they head for the end zone, we are in for a long day in Athens.
We MUST get our timing down on these open TD's we keep literally throwing away each game. I know he is "growing and maturing and figuring it out", but at this point in the season, when your QB is standing flat footed with no pressure and overthrows a WR who's beat his DB and headed to the end zone, we can't keep leaning on our Defense for four quarters to get us out of trouble and hope one pass finally hits. Refs will be totally against us, mugging our D-line without a single holding call, bookit...

Their RB room is back at full strength and Etienne was against ole mis, and always is, inches away from breaking one... we need to watch him anytime he's on the field.

Yeah the scoring efficiency chart is interesting.

We run 75 plays a game on offense, averaging 37.6 points per game almost exactly a point every 2 plays

On defense teams get 64.2 plays a game on, averaging 12.6 points per game requiring basically 5 plays to get a point against us

Texas, Ole Miss, and Bama all run less plays and score more points. Texas is the only team that gives up less points.

Big key to the game will be our offense efficiency.

Georgia's offense has played 3-4 good defenses this season. Kentucky held them to 13 points and 262 total yards, Alabama gave up 34 points and 519 yards (game turned into a shootout), Texas gave up 30 points but held them to 283 total yards, Ole Miss held them to 10 points and 245 total yards.

Texas lost because they had 4 turnovers. Kentucky lost because their offense couldn't score TDs.

We don't have to be perfect on offense but we have to score points when we get our chances and we have to eliminate turnovers.

Sampson fumble streak ends now

Now take out all the sec’s cupcake games and see where they stand. If you marginalize us, apply the same concept to everyone else.

I am not marginalizing our team. If you read the rest of my post you will see that I disagree with any assessment based purely on our offensive performance. I am simply speculating on what concerns the committee may have with our team, justified or not.

You can disagree and that’s fine but don’t misrepresent me because I am higher on this team than most other people on this board.

Hell this guy isn't even a crappy beer. He's the even crappier lite version.
Perhaps the guy is even the morning-after, stale, room-temperature, half-glass of crappy lite beer abandoned on a stray tabletop, and no one can be sure a drunk didn't piss into it before passing out.

Arky wasn't.

And honestly it might hurt us, but I've always thought it was dumb when teams took credit for beating ranked teams and then they finish poorly. Like you really didn't beat a good team.
It's somewhat complicated in the case where Team B drops because team A beat them, and so A's win ends up somewhat hurting its own metrics because its strength of schedule drops; but in general, yes, end of year numbers are superior.
