Recruiting Football Talk VIII

There was something that had to happen for us to get in the title game that year. Someone needed to lose. . . unless I've shifted into a different simulation.
I corrected it...we were #1 but when Kansas St lost, FSU got in. We were #1 all through November after Ohio St. loss to Michigan.

Yeah, I was thinking they had beaten Bama.

But yes that Texas win is the best of the bunch. On the road @ the SEC reg season champ, or at least one of the teams who tied for it.
Actually, Tennessee is in 1st place in the SEC.

Interesting that hasn't been widely reported?

The alarm is that most of the sports media is pushing to leave us out if we lose to Georgia. People fear that the committee will be swayed by the media. And it's a legit concern. We can stop all that talk with a win on Saturday. But should we lose, expect the sports media to get even louder about leaving us out. Whether the committee listens is anyone's guess. It could go either way.

Oh, so now I see the narrative. You can lose to Vandy and UT but still be better. Your offense can be garbage as your QB throws 3 picks every game, but our offense isn’t high octane, so we aren’t good enough. You can lose to Kentucky AT HOME and still be better than a team that only has losses on the road. This stuff is absolutely nonsense that media members create.

I’m saying that if we were winning games 45-28 instead of 25-10 we would have a lot better chances of getting in with 2 losses. At the end of the day this is a business and offensive fireworks grab a lot of eyeballs and the attention of the committee so take that for what it’s worth.

I’m not saying that it’s right whatsoever but yes I 100% believe we are being punished by the media for winning with defense rather than offense.
So, what about Georgia?

Biggest game at Tennessee in a while - very cool to be playing for the SEC championship game and a spot on the playoffs.

Win and you are in Atlanta as the 1 seed.

And you secure a spot in the playoffs and maybe a first round bye.
Win and we still have to beat Vandy. Most years Vandy is a gimme, but they've challenged some good teams this year, so we shouldn't take them for granted.

Not just the media our very own legion of miserable on this board agree with it too, but that’s not a surprise. This team has a lot of doubters which I am good with. We have lost 7 straight to Georgia so nobody is going to pick us to win with good reason. Up to the team to prove them wrong

It’s really pathetic. I’ve always seen people around here saying that ESPN and the media in general just don’t like the Vols and I thought they were being dramatic and coping. I have been proven dead wrong this year. They are trying anyway they can to spin us as a bad team not worthy of the playoffs if we don’t win 11 games and it’s ********.

Even in sports.
