Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Idk man, college sports are crazy.

Kirby used to be labeled a guy that would drop a game he wasn’t supposed to or couldn’t win the big one.

It took Jim Harbaugh years to breakthrough at Michigan, and he didn’t have to play UGA and Bama every year.

We’ve got to stack as much talent as possible.

It was a one score game deep into the 4th. But we clearly need to upgrade talent a multiple positions. WR, OL, LB, S
If Thornton isn’t in a splint and catches either one of the passes he dropped that’s a different game even with the refs hosing us. WR has to be the most pressing need right now. Gone are the days of running the ball every play and expecting to win (no matter how good you are at it). Also gone are the days when defense can be expected to completely shut down opponents. CFB is big offense now.

But we haven’t beaten those two teams on the road under Heupel? How are those impressive road wins?
We have been in a talent hole too. Managing to beat BAMA twice with the roster we have compared to theirs is a miracle. Our ability to make fair comparisons to UGA and BAMA started this season and even then we’re still behind.

At which point will we be there? Y5, 6, 8...10?

It doesnt take other programs that long to start signing top classes. Sarkisian is at #4 , what year is he?

This staff is in Y4. Has an orange bowl win, top QB. I dont buy it.

Sarkisian is also in year 4.

Sarkisian took over a much, much better program than Heupel. He went 5-7 in his first year WHILE in the Big 12. Last year's run happened while in the Big 12. This year, while currently #4, he has zero, I repeat ZERO Top 25 wins. Oh, and this UGA loss your distraught about, Sarkisian got tattooed by them AT HOME. 34-15 overall.

Heupel took over a dumpster fire of irrelevance. Had droves of players leave on top of an NCAA investigation into cheating. Never had less than a 7 win season (really ought to be 8 win season as that was clearly a TD in the Music City Bowl). Had an 11-2 season in the SEC. This year, actually has a Top 25 win, had a more competitive game AT UGA. 35-14 overall.

In short, Heupel clearly has done a better job.

@ #18 Kentucky
@ #17 Pittsburgh
@ #15 Oklahoma
Believe the poster is referring to this season.

Tennessee defeated Alabama so yes Tennessee has defeated a Bowl Eligible team but the 3 you posted.

Kentucky is 4-6 this season and has to win out to be Bowl Eligible
Oklahoma is 5-5 probably ends up 5-7

When did Tennessee play Pittsburgh this season?

UTC- FCS
NC State- 5-5
Kent State- 0-10
Oklahoma- 5-5 (2-5 last 7 games)
Florida- 5-5 (OT W)
Bama- 8-2
Kentucky- 4-6 (10 point win)
Miss State- 2-8

I dont see a single game here besides the Bama game that committee can look at as a quality win

Careful someone called me an idiot for saying we smidge by teams.

1 quality win
And 3-4 wins by 10 points….at home

Some of y’all need to sack up! Hated how soft we looked after the first quarter, hated our defensive game plan, and hated that we did not lean on our running game that was effective in the fourth quarter. However, in our fourth year after wondering in the wilderness for almost 15 years, Heupel has us 8–2 and still in the playoff hunt. In hindsight, going into Georgia at night last night with them having two losses was a monstrous task. I felt like we sensed when the calls started going against us in the second quarter, that we knew the SEC was going to do everything possible to prevent Georgia from losing a third game. The game seemed to be called pretty evenly in the first quarter. We need to flush this game, and be mad the next two weeks. Don’t give anything to chance, and certainly don’t let the SEC send one of their crony refereeing Crews to Vanderbilt and try to put them in position to give us a third loss.Be aggressive, and go obliterate our next two opponents. If we do that, I still think we have a better résumé than at least three of the SEC teams that will be in front of us on Tuesday night.

There are posts all over VN right now that make it hard not to despise this arrogant, entitled, half-witted, suicidal fanbase.

I'll just leave this here for the cocksure, impatient dumbasses.

Within 4 years, we're competing with the best teams in NCAAF for the College Football playoff, having spent three years in NCAA violation money-bag purgatory, with the staff having taken over a partial roster after what little talent we'd had jumped off the sinking ship.

And folks are ready to fire staff because we didn't beat a very good UGA team on the road.

Just absolutely brazen, disloyal, entitled dumbassery, and you people should be ashamed of yourselves.
Counterpoint.

2007, Georgia Dome. Lost to a freshman QB in SECCG.

Let's understand that after sitting in freezing ass December cold, nosebleeds Neyland watching us get it handed to us by Vandy.
Many, many, many games in between. Too many to include in this rant...

Dooley ball, Butch ball, Pruitt ball.

We want to win. At a high level. And, while i'm appreciative wins. Dont tell me to eat ****, and call it sugar. There are glaring issues. If it makes me 'entitled' then so ****ing be it.

You think those Georgia and Alabama pricks would take this, more specifically a loss to Arkansas well? Its one thing to lose to UGA on the road, another to have same OL/WR/ and Defensive issues year in and out. Then to lose at Arkansas.

To the cocksure, know it all, windbags. We bleed orange. We are so close to turning the corner. And guess what Huepel helped created those expectations.

Those ok with status quo, or complacency can be ashamed.

I was replying to a post asking about what big road wins besides LSU has Heupel had. But either I completely imagined that post or it just disappeared.

I am still unsure what is worse, Chris Fowler calling a game or Gary Danielson serving as analyst. I know for certain that both suck!

I sure hope we get a decent radio play-by-play guy next year and I can figure out how to sync the radio to the TV. I live in Texas and have to get the radio broadcast over the Internet, so syncing is hard.

Bru, our best receiver, really should be a #3 possession type receiver. Donte just doesn’t have the consistency in getting open or catching balls.
The rest are not good. Mike Matthews has the potential to be great, but he barely sees the field.

We just don’t have a game breaker.

It’s hilarious that we say “well UGA was more talented blah blah blah” and then when it comes to recruiting we’re like “hell yeah, rankings don’t matter”

Which is it because I’m confused? Lol

Stars and rankings have always mattered. There are people that say they don’t because it makes them feel better about recruiting.

This is the truth
The WR room is not good. The most talented guys have to sit behind Chas Nimrod for some reason.
