Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It really wasn't. We couldn't pass. We scored once outside of the 1st quarter because UGA busted an assignment. It really wasnt.
“because UGA busted an assignment”… 😂

Really going to try to downplay Sampson running right through and by their defense by saying we only scored “because UGA busted an assignment”?

Want to say the same about how they only ever scored on us because we busted an assignment?

Give me a break. Regardless how you spin it, it was a close game that UGA could not have felt confident about winning until sometime under 5 mins to go.

All this talk about a drop off next season is stupid. We won 9 games last season despite noticeable regression from the offense. With the way Heupel has recruited and the guys they land in the portal, this program should be a stable 9+ win program every year. The discussion needs to focus on how they take the next step forward and quit worrying that we'll go 7-5. Hell, it's not a lock that we don't make the playoffs and finish strong this season. Last night sucked because it was a winnable game and we didn't get it done against the top program in the country...not because we found out we're miles behind after a blowout. Cross your fingers that we make the playoffs and get another shot at UGA.

It’s just disappointing, Georgia without many key starters on OL, RB, Defense and receiver still can’t even get it within 10 points. That’s why everyone’s frustrated Vols have got to do an offseason review of some sort to make it to that elite program level. Starts with recruiting.

I’m honestly not trying to argue, just genuinely curious, outside of that rather impressive LSU road beat down, what other big road game has he won?
Considering our big road games have been against BAMA and UGA and those happen to be two of the top teams in the country, taking LSU in 22 off the table isn’t fair play.

DL was worse than the OL last night. OL wasn’t great and hasn’t been all season but DL was beyond disappointing last night for their expectations. We know the OL isn’t great but they held up better than expected. The safeties are 💩 and defense is vanilla. Mike bobo is garbage as is his quarterback but didn’t look that way last night

It was not, but to each their own.

Absolutely can call out. That’s why I agreed he had a bad game.

I’m just not ignoring all the good games and saying Vols will never win anything of significance with him as DC.
Well when they do then hit me up. But they won't because after 4 years, it's a trend. He's way over his head. What does he need 8-10 years?

Why would we experience drop off? Nico grew up last night. He lost but he played like a warrior. Peyton Lewis and Bishop are going to be great replacements for Sampson. The WRs have to get better. Heard is getting better while we lose Mays but with Nico progressing that should be a smaller problem than it was a few weeks ago. DBs are babies and our DL while losing Pearce and some others has been a DL by committee.

It was a one score game deep into the 4th. But we clearly need to upgrade talent a multiple positions. WR, OL, LB, S

But we haven’t beaten those two teams on the road under Heupel? How are those impressive road wins?

Idk man, college sports are crazy.

Kirby used to be labeled a guy that would drop a game he wasn’t supposed to or couldn’t win the big one.

It took Jim Harbaugh years to breakthrough at Michigan, and he didn’t have to play UGA and Bama every year.

We’ve got to stack as much talent as possible.

If Thornton isn’t in a splint and catches either one of the passes he dropped that’s a different game even with the refs hosing us. WR has to be the most pressing need right now. Gone are the days of running the ball every play and expecting to win (no matter how good you are at it). Also gone are the days when defense can be expected to completely shut down opponents. CFB is big offense now.

We have been in a talent hole too. Managing to beat BAMA twice with the roster we have compared to theirs is a miracle. Our ability to make fair comparisons to UGA and BAMA started this season and even then we’re still behind.

At which point will we be there? Y5, 6, 8...10?

It doesnt take other programs that long to start signing top classes. Sarkisian is at #4 , what year is he?

This staff is in Y4. Has an orange bowl win, top QB. I dont buy it.

Sarkisian is also in year 4.

Sarkisian took over a much, much better program than Heupel. He went 5-7 in his first year WHILE in the Big 12. Last year's run happened while in the Big 12. This year, while currently #4, he has zero, I repeat ZERO Top 25 wins. Oh, and this UGA loss your distraught about, Sarkisian got tattooed by them AT HOME. 34-15 overall.

Heupel took over a dumpster fire of irrelevance. Had droves of players leave on top of an NCAA investigation into cheating. Never had less than a 7 win season (really ought to be 8 win season as that was clearly a TD in the Music City Bowl). Had an 11-2 season in the SEC. This year, actually has a Top 25 win, had a more competitive game AT UGA. 35-14 overall.

In short, Heupel clearly has done a better job.

@ #18 Kentucky
@ #17 Pittsburgh
@ #15 Oklahoma
Believe the poster is referring to this season.

Tennessee defeated Alabama so yes Tennessee has defeated a Bowl Eligible team but the 3 you posted.

Kentucky is 4-6 this season and has to win out to be Bowl Eligible
Oklahoma is 5-5 probably ends up 5-7

When did Tennessee play Pittsburgh this season?
