Recruiting Football Talk VIII

If he’s getting the best out of what he has to work with,
Then that’s half his job.
The other half is recruiting better to have more to work with.
It's kind of hard to judge any of our recruiters so far with the NCAA pay-4-play shadow having been hanging over the program.

It's very easy to sit at home wishing in one hand and ****ing in the other when it comes to landing recruits. The skill comes in recognizing the difference between wishes, turds and what things are really like on the recruiting trail.

I'll repeat so the back of the room can hear: If ANYONE had predicted four years ago that we'd be in the shape we're in right now, they'd have been rightly laughed and/or booed out of the place for unhealthy levels of sunshine pumping. And yet here we are with annoying cases of amnesia nit-picking the coaches.

Every other position group has improved.
The Oline has been stagnant.
They are up and down consistently.
Play good until they don’t and then they stink.

Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young, who hasn't played for the Bulldogs since his arrest Oct. 8 on misdemeanor charges of battery and assault on an unborn child, returned to practice Monday after being cleared to do so by the university's Equal Opportunity Office.

UT - 42
Vanderbilt - 7

Vandy came to Knoxville at the end of a disappointing year. In a way to motivate the team, Coach Majors layed out All Orange uniforms (1st time in school history). The decision worked, as the Vols scored 21 second quarter points and routed the ‘Dores 42-7. Jimmy Streater ran for 3 TDs and passed for another. Greg Jones made his last game his best game. The SR linebacker had 19 tackles, 6 assists, and interception, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup!

I was there. So excited when I walked in and saw them orange britches.

I thought about naming it something like "Brown Rabbit" but then I remembered the warning against taking brown acid at Woodstock and thought it might have negative connotations. So then I pondered "Flouresent Green Gerbil" but some people apparently do weird sh*t with gerbils so that ruled that out.
Now I'm thinking of something like "Black Rabbit".
Feed your head.

I understood. I just think it’s unlikely that Kirby would think beating OM and UT is somehow a given.

If Kirby was in control like on here seem to think and if he was willing to cut corners like people seem to think he would, Young would have been playing a long time ago. Look how bad our WRs were against OM and how pass heavy our plan was against Tennessee, and how banged up we’ve been at WR.

Gotcha. I agree with the points you made in the quoted post, though I do think he expected that his team was likely to make the playoffs. It's probably nothing more than fortunate timing but Kirby is going to everything the UGA admin allows to gain an edge.

Do you really think Kirby cares much about running a clean program? It's obvious he doesn't with the amount of trouble his players get into with very little accountability unless mandated by the school's admin....being 2-3 deep with blue chip recruits at every position tends to lessen the amount of discipline and accountability a staff requires. It is/was no different with Fulmer, Spurrier, Meyer, Saban, James Franklin, Kiffin, Freeze (any other Bama, Auburn or Miami coach in history) or most coaches caring about a "clean" program except for how it impacts player eligibility and recruiting. Winning, making money, their ego and occasionally pride in their alma mater is typically all most of those guys care about. Most fans don't care either as long as their programs are winning.

Then you have coaches who believe quality of character impacts player dedication and team chemistry. Heupel and Mark Richt are two good examples. Those type of coaches tend to be guys who are faithful husbands, good fathers and care about helping kids become good men/people. They are still competitive but not at the expense of their personal values/morals and genuine care for young people. There are some fans who take pride in having those type of coaches leading their programs, though they still expect and want a winner. This is a harder but more rewarding path, IMO.

Agreed. And recruiting is improving every year. We knew from the beginning that recruiting would be the biggest learning curve with this staff. Luckily, their talent evaluation and development is on a level that they are able to overachieve wwith what they have until people take notice and recruiting improves. NIL coming into play has also helped to fast-track things with UT's resources and being ahead of the curve when it was initially implemented.

Do we know how officiating crews will be picked for the playoff home games? I really don't want an SEC officiating crew if we have to go back to Sanford Stadium for a first round playoff game.
Near zero chance we face UGA in Athens.

They either win this week and in Atlanta and they have a bye. Or they lose in Atl and end up behind us, but still in. Or this weekend and potentially out.

And that's all assuming PSU...ND....etc don't drop one and that IU is behind us.

I just don't see how that works out. Also think committee will be motivated to avoid rematches Round 1, if it even gets that far.
Better chance we see Tex in Austin, also very unlikely.

They'll let this week play out and then re-shuffle the teams that are in to produce the most marketable matchups.

The committee isn't the media, at all. This isn't the AP doing the ranking.

2) Even if the media were the ones deciding, it would be stupid to have the biggest teams knocked out early. The later games are the biggest and you'd want the big hitters around for the next 3 rounds. The media would rather avoid early attrition.

This is absolutely PATHETIC. How is he not a finalist??? And people wonder why we think the media hates us.

Don't disagree with Jeanty, even Johnson I get.

But Hampton lmfao. Embarrassing for the award. A workhorse with far fewer TDs, similar YPC vs a far worse schedule.
