Recruiting Football Talk VIII

No one is saying a team like TAMU should get a bump because they were in that game.

All anyone is saying is that whatever your opinion of TAMU was before the extra game, should remain your opinion after they lose.

And I'm not necessarily saying that should always be the case. Texas has a weak schedule. Say they get the doors blown off by Georgia. Is that useful information that could lead someone to drop them in the rankings? Yes. But it won't. The committee is not going to punish a team for playing an extra game they had to play because they won too many games. Ain't gonna happen.
gotcha, i agree with that. if TX does lose, they'll have to drop because currently, they're in the top 4, and they wouldn't be a a conf champ getting a round 1 bye.....but in merit, i see what you're saying. TX is still getting in if they lose in ATL.

Bruj I hate it. Wish the stadium would sink into the ground.

Either Clemson wins and all the jackass Tigers fans at work are chirping about being the 3rd best team in the weak ACC sneaking in...or Beamer's DA sneaks in.

I'd honestly take anyone else sneaking in first. Yes that even includes Bama and, less so, Kiffin, 🤢🤮

All the more reason we need to get in. If we don't and one those shmucks gets in at the 11th hour, it will be the worst. I'll just move onto basketball season at that point.
see, i think for USCe to sneak in, a whole lot has to happen. plus, someone will have to explain how they jump the two teams that beat them.......i think there will be some type of chaos happening this weekend...but i'm not sure it's enough to get USCe in. so for that reason, if we win Saturday afternoon, i'm definitely hoping USCE crushes Clemson's hopes. i hope TX eliminates aTm.

where it gets interesting is if Bama loses...we lose....then the door cracks open. so if we win, i think it gets real difficult for USCe, no matter what....if Bama and us win, it's almost impossible, imo.

Well if Miami loses Clemson will get SMU in the ACC title game and potentially qualify with a win either way.

So a "full chaos" for the ACC that would help us (because Miami is projecting as a top 4 seed)

Miami loses at Syracuse, 10-2 no title game
Clemson loses to South Carolina, 9-3 but beats SMU in title game and they'll be 10-2

Clemson gets automatic bid as a 9-3, obviously wouldn't get a top 4 seed with Big 12 champ being 10-2 though... SMU is for sure out of the playoff and Miami with 2 losses even if they did get in would be below us.

Not sure if it'd move us up from 9 or not, but Clemson would move into the 12 at that point...and you'd have to assume they'd get seeded ahead of non conference champs... so we might get moved back to the 10 and play at Notre Dame then Georgia would host Clemson...
oh, i forgot about that Miami losing puts Clemson in CHR.

For me, I just don't want to see a rematch with Georgia in Athens for the first round. I think we could beat them, especially if they're coming off an extra game in Atlanta....but just not interested in that matchup for the first round.

Much rather play at Penn State or at Notre Dame honestly.

So Georgia beating whoever they get in Atlanta IMO is the best outcome for us.

Ya'll know what I'm excited to see. Faizon Brandon playing in this system.

Kid is an extremely accurate passer in his 3 years of HS his TD to INT rate is insane and he's a 4.4/4.5 at 6'4" and 200lbs+
and he's pretty athletic too. not dual threat, mind you...he's a pocket guy...but that kid can move too. i'm very excited/hopeful about the qb situaiton for the next 5-ish years or so.....

He's VERY athletic, plays varsity basketball. Reminds me a lot of Hendon Hooker, if he is that we're going to have a really fun 2-3 years of him starting.

Right. The teams that lose conference championships are the only teams that don’t get a bye. Everyone except the conference title game participants get their byes the weekend of the conference title games. The conference championship winners get their bye the following weekend. The losers play straight through.
There’s a 2 week gap between Conference champ and first round of playoffs

Right now I think the field is pretty weak and I’m ok with it. If all of the favorites win (and Georgia takes SEC) we would have a road game against maybe Texas. If there is chaos, we might see Bama/Ole Miss/Clemson get in over Miami/SMU//ND. I’d love to have a game in Neyland but that would probably require a lot of weak teams losing and drop out of the field.
Definitely a conndrum of sorts.

But I don't think the home game importance can be overstated.

We know road games in CFB are really tough, let alone an INSANE environment like these will have. They'll be extra. And we've struggled with penalties and execution on the road, like most teams do.

We just need to win round 1 imo, cross the other bridges at that point on neutral fields, where I think we can beat anyone this year. I don't love our odds vs top-10 caliber teams on the road though. Think we'd be a near 2:1, maybe 3:2, underdog vs the current field on the road (hypothetically OSU, UGA or TEX, ND, PSU)

i tend to agree.

and i do wonder if Georgia did lose, and Miami and Clemson lost, maybe USCw beats ND...would we move up enough to get a home game? i think yes....

but, if worse came to worse and it does wind up @ Georgia, i'm ok with that. it's not ideal obviously seeing that we just did that a couple weeks ago...but we played, arguably, our worst game of the year with all the freakin' mistakes we made on offense...and UGA had the "get right" game of all "get right" games....so i think no two games are the same. maybe both teams move back to the center....UGA not quite as good....TN not quite as bad....use what we learned from the last trip etc...

it wouldn't be out of the question to go down there an win. and this time, nobody would be picking us....all the pressure and expectations would be on UGA. Difficult...yep...impossible...nope.

that said, give me any midwest school at Neyland....

We just have to handle Vandy. Lots of chaos can still happen.

Michigan at Ohio State
Georgia Tech at Georgia
Notre Dame at USC
Maryland at Penn State
Miami at Syracuse
California at SMU
Purdue at Indiana
Texas at A&M
Kansas State at Iowa State

I'm all about chaos and upsets outside our game.

Just looking at their recruiting lately...no wonder they fell off. Mack obviously not putting much into it.

2025 class 77th with 10 commits
2024 class 32nd with 33 enrollees
2023 class 28th with 22 enrollees

UNC players I think we'd be interested in
Zach Rice, former 5 star OT 2022 class, 20th overall and RS-So - 6'5" 315lbs
Eli Sutton, former 4 star OT 2021 class, Brentwood TN kid and Junior - 6'7" 315lbs
Jake Johnson, former 4 star TE 2022 class, transferred from A&M to UNC this past year RS-So - 6'6" 240lbs

Got quite a bit of 4 star WRs 3 that are Freshmen right now. Not sure if we'd be kicking any tires there or not though.
Sutton makes sense proximity wise

Then they shouldn’t have lost elsewhere in the regular season. I’m of the belief that UGA should be left out of the CFP if they lose in the SECCG. They did what was needed to earn a spot in the SECCG, so they can accept the consequences of a loss. Don’t lose to the Gumps or Ole Miss in the regular season and it doesn’t matter. The entire schedule matters! It is used to select teams for conference championships, so the game should likewise have value, good or bad. Life isn’t fair, but a 3-loss SEC team doesn’t belong this year, not without a complete and thorough meltdown amongst the top-15 over the next two weeks.
And if SMU, already lower than UGA, also loses, they get dropped out too I assume?

So you now have
#8 IU
#9 Boise St
#10 Clemson (let's assume they win this week)

Who is your #11? If you leave out all of the 3-loss SEC teams...you have...Tulane jumping 6 spots 😅🤣

If there's ever a year a 3 loss team gets in, it would seem to be this one. You'd literally be left with only TWO SEC teams in that case. Oh and if we lost, then only ONE. That is patently absurd. Texas, OSU, and a load of scrubs 😅 Ya gotta fill in a 12 team playoff somehow.

you could probably list all the Big 12 games...lol...

Michigan has no shot at OSU.
GT isn't beating UGA in athens.
USCw over ND....that's not crazy talk, that could happen.
MD isn't beating PSU, but it would be great if they did.
feels like Syracuse over Miami is too trendy of an upset for it to actually happen....but, certainly, still possible.
does Cal/SMU change anything in the ACC? IIRC, SMU is already in Charlotte, right? if so, then hell yeah, sign me up for that upset.
Purdue over IND....is gigantor suiting up in a football uniform for them this week? if not, IND wins big.
scared of the aTm/TX game. i would only like aTm winning if i KNEW UGA was going to win in ATL.
i got no clue on the KSU/ISU game. both of those teams have looked really good, and really average this year.
and there are plenty of people looking at Vandy as a trendy upset pick over us.....so, this is one party i'd not like to attend.

bonus upset...Auburn over Bama...that'd be a nice cherry on top.
or MSU over Ole Miss.....just because Kiffin sucks.

But then you start to have to hear USCe fans chirping if they beat Clemson....not sure i'm ok with that?

I’m behind so forgive me if this has already been addressed. A&M beating Texas gives them their second SEC lost and (may?) drop them behind us. It would be A&M vs UGA in SECCG and UGA smokes A&M thus knocking them out of CFP. At 9-4 I don’t see how they would be considered.
Uga gets the SECC bye and Tennessee could end up as the number 2 ranked SEC. Mostly I don’t want to listen to tu fans Braggin about how they made SECCG their first year in the SEC.
Possible, I'm just skeptical Tex would drop that far (unless they get a beatdown, which would be awesome).

I just think a close TAMU win opens more doors that we end up the 4th place SEC team and move back a spot and kills our chances of hosting. Currently we're locked in at no worse than 3rd and routes to finish #2 are there. Home games are possible at #2 or #3, #4 and it's very unlikely.

It's end of the year.

Who had OU dominating Bama? PSU should've lost to Minnesota. UF looked most likely, but even they were double digit underdogs.

Agree USC over ND is most likely path to moving up this week. Beatdown in Atlanta 2nd most likely. MD has been weird at times, so ya never know vs a shaky PSU squad.

Agreed.

At OT
Umarov, 4 star 6'7" 330lbs - FR
Johnson III, 3 star 6'7" 350lbs - SO
Brian Grant, 3 star 6'7" 340lbs - SO
Heard, 5 star 6'6" 340lbs - SO (he's getting better every week it seems)
Perry, 3 star 6'6" 310lbs - FR
Ginther, 3 star 6'5" 310lbs - FR
Duncan, 3 star 6'6" 300lbs - FR
Warren, 4 star 6'7" 342lbs - FR

IOL
Reddick, 3 star 6'5" 350lbs - SO
Lang, 3 star 6'4" 340lbs - FR
Bussell, 3 star 6'5" 300lbs - FR
Anderson, 4 star 6'5" 311lbs - FR
Satterwhite, 4 star 6'3" 300lbs - FR

Every one of them is rated as high or higher than Davis, Campbell, and Spraggins.

Mays is going to be hard to replace, but I think there's good size and talent just waiting for a chance.
We may need to add 1 interior guy from the portal but the other 3 spots i would hope we already have on the roster. I'm assuming Karic is not back. We can also kick a few of those OT bodies inside. I wouldn't be mad if all 4 spots are already on the roster.

SMU losing means they'd HAVE to win the ACC title game to stay in the playoffs, but they're in the title game even with a loss. Miami loses to Syracuse and Clemson plays them.
