Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Sure if you're a bad team you'd love to be there, but I would bet in an anonymous poll most coaches would choose 5-8
I’m sure some would, it depends on the circumstances. Texas would definitely rather beat Uga and get the bye then lose and be around 5-8. It will be harder on teams that lose the conference champ game than the teams that get a bye

I'm giving him a mulligan on the Georgia game. Thought his game plan was awful, but everything was bad and it was Georgia on the road. We're 9-2 and have the best defense we've fielded in a long time.
Get out of here Butch! Go on now! Shoo! Shoo!

Sorry, first time seeing the username and it was a bit jarring.

I know these guys are paid well but I’m reminded that so few of us are finished products in our profession. We typically, at least those of us who care, get better with time and experience. Also, even the folks who are very good at what they do can show up and have a bad day. Sometimes those bad days can be a single mistake that just cascades.

Banks has come a hell of a long way. I would love to see him here for years to come but I figure he’s about to get that bag to go be the top guy elsewhere.

A 3-loss Tennessee wouldn't even be in the conversation this year.
With our lack of ranked wins this year, I agree. But the question was about any SEC team with 3 losses. Otoh 2022 Vols with 3 losses would be well in the conversation.

This year we'd be where USCjr is right now, but without a Clemson game ahead of us to get a final bump.

I'm torn who to pull for in the Clemson usc game

Say UT smokes Vandy Saturday, and uga struggles with GT, or vice versa, I wonder how that would effect the rankings
Ultimately irrelevant unless UGA also loses a close one in Atlanta. The close win over GT could help the committee push them below us.

Just judging off the AP ranking margins, we are well behind UGA at the moment. It's a wide gap between the 2 spots rn.

I say we just do what we can and go smoke Vandy 😎

Bruj I hate it. Wish the stadium would sink into the ground.

Either Clemson wins and all the jackass Tigers fans at work are chirping about being the 3rd best team in the weak ACC sneaking in...or Beamer's DA sneaks in.

I'd honestly take anyone else sneaking in first. Yes that even includes Bama and, less so, Kiffin, 🤢🤮

All the more reason we need to get in. If we don't and one those shmucks gets in at the 11th hour, it will be the worst. I'll just move onto basketball season at that point.

Translation: We really don't have set parameters but ESPN likes ratings and storylines and we're tired of the SEC but we need Alabama and the dude from Michigan really likes the Big Ten and when people question our decisions we make up answers on the spot despite the fact that the answer we gave falls apart if any media hack bothers to look deeper.
That’s it.

And in actuality, they don’t need Bama at all. We will be as big a draw.

2022 Vols...wouldn't have made the SEC championship game anyway. Georgia vs LSU both had better conference records so not even the same conversation playing hypotheticals.

2022 Vols sitting at 10-2 were at 7th with Bama (who we beat head to head) ahead of us...

Only thing that I think is a bit dumb...I completely get the top 12... but the thing that's a bit confusing to me is the committee has stated from the beginning "only the conference champion is guaranteed in"

Yet Ohio State, SMU, and Georgia are all being projected to lose their title game and still get in... and even with a 2nd loss Ohio State would be a 5 seed? and a 3 loss Georgia will be the 8?

Good point, but I don't think they're projecting what will happen to the losing team. Partially because they don't know who that team would even be yet, so it would be more of a stretch. TAMU could be in. Clemson could be in. Too many variables, have to cut it off somewhere.

All just projections anyway, so meh. We'll see what happens on the field, then the new rankings will determine.

Yup, they would have been in fine position among 3 loss SEC teams. Considering how strong their wins were.

But I agree the most likely 3 loss team in scenario is an SECCG loser with 3 losses (if that was the insinuation).

He's already banged up
Most guys are at this point.

imo, It’s just the basis for the “storyline” or propaganda that when Bama lost to (unranked) Vandy that was “a tremendously good great loss.” But when we beat Vandy it’s going to be a “weak” win. People called that the day Bama lost to Vandy. 😂

When we beat Okie by 10 with no offensive tackles or beat Bama with Nico banged up, etc., no credit was given or extenuating circumstance asserted. In fact, beating Okie by only 10 and scoring a mere 25 points was actively held against us. Much “concern.” When Bama was crushed by Okie and Bama scored only 3 points, no concerns and the game immediately became the 3rd loss that it was “right” to overlook.

Well if Miami loses Clemson will get SMU in the ACC title game and potentially qualify with a win either way.

So a "full chaos" for the ACC that would help us (because Miami is projecting as a top 4 seed)

Miami loses at Syracuse, 10-2 no title game
Clemson loses to South Carolina, 9-3 but beats SMU in title game and they'll be 10-2

Clemson gets automatic bid as a 9-3, obviously wouldn't get a top 4 seed with Big 12 champ being 10-2 though... SMU is for sure out of the playoff and Miami with 2 losses even if they did get in would be below us.

Not sure if it'd move us up from 9 or not, but Clemson would move into the 12 at that point...and you'd have to assume they'd get seeded ahead of non conference champs... so we might get moved back to the 10 and play at Notre Dame then Georgia would host Clemson...
