Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Go watch Pavia’s press conference. Dude is a cocky (but tough) little punk. I want us to pummel him Saturday.
I'm with younon him. I get it, it was a good story but henhas let it go to his head!

Hope he gets denied on extra year and Vandy goes back to its expected spot in the cellar..

The narrative is all geared at setting up excuses for the Bammers to get in, lovers and haters they draw big and tv wants them. Getting killed by OU wasn’t in the script, Can’t control everything.
When the biggest Alabama fan Paul Finebaum states, Alabama isn't getting in without a miracle then I believe Paul. Although I have read a bunch of comments in other forums slobbering for Alabama and Mississippi to get in playoffs, coming from supposedly Tennessee fans that's alarming..

Starting RB, like our RBs but we don’t have a guy like Sampson. Need an older guy in that room.
WR
1-2 OL
1-2 DL
1-2 DL
1 LB

I doubt we go RB in the portal. That’s the only position this staff has never gone to the portal for. With Bishop, Lewis, and Seldon returning, what RB is going to come here? And further, if you get one, one of those guys might leave.

I could see WR, but it seems like every time we get a portal WR, it takes him a year before he’s comfortable in the offense. I think Safety is a bigger need…if we can land a stud.

I’ve thought Tennessee knew their assignment well with our out of conference schedule this year and next.

I can easily see 10-2 again next year, and maybe 11-1 if Alabama is the train wreck I suspect they might become.
Next year is going to be rough IMO. OU when healthy and a potentially more competent offensive staff will be much better than when we played them this year. Florida away is almost always a loss. UGA will be breaking in a new QB but that team is well coached. Bama away will be tough but I would love to light a cigar from the smoldering ashes of Saban field.

I’m hoping we do. I like those guys, but their SEC game stats leave a lot to be desired. I get it they are freshman, but for me that makes even more important to grab one someone. Leaving doesn’t bother anymore, any kid will leave if their feelings are hurt.

There’s rumors, and they are just that, but Mekhi Hughes from Tulane may enter the portal at the end of the season.

Soph, 5’11, 210 (sounds like someone we know) ;)
1291 yards, 5.5 avg, 15 TDs. He’s played pretty well against the bigger teams.
80 against OU
130 against KState

I hope the coaches slide in those DMs if he does decide to transfer.

You’re probably right on safety, we need that more than a WR. We at least have Squirrel and Brazzell back.

Three? We’ve got a lot of OTs returning. You thinking two Guards and 1 OT?
No, I think a C, a G and a Tackle.

Ellarbee attacks aside, fact remains he has never, in 4 years given any player he recruited out of HS meaningful snaps.

You look at RB, WR, LB, and DB recruiting has gotten better bc of playing under classmen.

Ranking of 2025 games by difficulty:

1. @ Florida. Lagway vs Nico could be epic, but we are cursed in the Swamp. This will almost certainly be at night and I can already see it as a game where everything goes wrong for us.

2. @ Bama. They'll have a new QB but he will likely be an improvement over Milroe. Then again, we could start to see the cracks really forming if DeBoer is truly in over his head. But it's in a place that's almost as haunted for us as Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

3. Georgia. Also breaking in a new QB but still uber talented. Should be our best chance of beating them in a long time if Nico takes a big step this offseason. Home crowd should be rocking.

4. Oklahoma. They'll be better for sure, but it's at home. They don't have Baker Mayfield and we don't have Butch Jones.

5. @ Miss State. I see this one as potentially like @ Arkansas 2024. Could be a trap game depending on where it is on our schedule. However, they're awful this year and I don't see them taking a big enough step next year to be a truly dangerous team. But it's on the road, and if it's at night, some voodoo could happen "under the cowbells."

6. @ Kentucky. Heup ain't great on the road in the SEC, but apparently Kroger Field doesn't count. This will be a test but I'm not worried about it.

7. Arkansas. Revenge game at Neyland. We aren't losing.

8. Syracuse @ ATL. NC State 2024 all over again. They'll get preseason hype and the media will try to convince people they have a shot. They don't. Mercedes-Benz Stadium will also be packed with Orange, so this will be a neutral site home game.

9. Vandy. No Pavia, @ Neyland. Enough said.

10/11. New Mexico State/UAB. Two 3-8 teams and that have to come to Neyland. They dead.

12. ETSU. Enjoy the paycheck, Buccaneers.

Agree on LB, disagree on DL. Think 2 if you can swing it. But, is ok with Weathersby, Jenkins, Moi, Hobbs, and West. The three underclassmen need to step up. Now if one transfers you're effed. I think you gotta swing with the freed up NIL at Bryson Eason.

2 would be excellent, but, its hard as **** to find them, recruit them, and get them ready. But, I think 1 IDL and we will be good.

Hopefully Ross' injury isnt significant. He will be a player.

That said, if Josephs comes back. You HAVE to get a DE, maybe 2. Outside of Herring, you have no one. NO ONE to rush the passer.

It is possible im looking over someone. But, if Herring transfers, which is absolutely possible. Then what? Recruiting DE is as hard as OT. We are not in a good spot.

Tight End. Still an area where we havent developed. So, we will need an inline guy.

WR, losing Bru and the Oregon guy. Think you gotta get a possession type guy. Esp if Brazzell gets hurt.

So, I think 2-3 OL, C, G, and possibly T. Or just force the younguns to grow up. Recruiting has to get better here. Shouldve been rotating guys, and playing underclassmen. I'm completely underwhelmed.
1- WR
1-TE
1-IDL
1-2 - DE
1-Safety as a luxury
1-ILB

At some point we gotta start developing HS guys.
