Recruiting Football Talk VIII

No, I think a C, a G and a Tackle.

Ellarbee attacks aside, fact remains he has never, in 4 years given any player he recruited out of HS meaningful snaps.

You look at RB, WR, LB, and DB recruiting has gotten better bc of playing under classmen.

I just can’t see them grabbing a portal Center for this offense. Satterwhite is ready to take those reigns. Expecting a guy to come in and start year 1 at Center in this offense is a huge ask.

You’re right, though, about the HS guys he’s recruited. At some point, that has to change. The 2024 and 2025 OL signing classes are significant improvements from the prior 3 OL classes…if Sanders sticks.

Agree on LB, disagree on DL. Think 2 if you can swing it. But, is ok with Weathersby, Jenkins, Moi, Hobbs, and West. The three underclassmen need to step up. Now if one transfers you're effed. I think you gotta swing with the freed up NIL at Bryson Eason.

2 would be excellent, but, its hard as **** to find them, recruit them, and get them ready. But, I think 1 IDL and we will be good.

Hopefully Ross' injury isnt significant. He will be a player.

That said, if Josephs comes back. You HAVE to get a DE, maybe 2. Outside of Herring, you have no one. NO ONE to rush the passer.

It is possible im looking over someone. But, if Herring transfers, which is absolutely possible. Then what? Recruiting DE is as hard as OT. We are not in a good spot.

Tight End. Still an area where we havent developed. So, we will need an inline guy.

WR, losing Bru and the Oregon guy. Think you gotta get a possession type guy. Esp if Brazzell gets hurt.

So, I think 2-3 OL, C, G, and possibly T. Or just force the younguns to grow up. Recruiting has to get better here. Shouldve been rotating guys, and playing underclassmen. I'm completely underwhelmed.
1- WR
1-TE
1-IDL
1-2 - DE
1-Safety as a luxury
1-ILB

At some point we gotta start developing HS guys.

I don’t fully 10000% mean this when I say it, but I’m getting veryyyyyyyyy close, I don’t care about HS recruiting too much anymore. I won’t see 90% of those kids on the field till year 3.

Not soon, but I feel like one day it’s gonna get to the point where HS kids are just gonna have to go to a smaller schools to prove they can play then transfer to a UT, Texas, etc. unless you’re a top QB.
Minor Leagues to the Major leagues type ****.

A good majority of younger guys aren’t gonna play till their JR/SR years if at all, because now we can just take transfers like candy and put them in starting spots. This makes the younger guys mad and they leave. So at the end of the day, it’s just a wash. You lose the HS kid, but gain a quality transfer.

Kids can come and go, just win.

Who said Rick couldn’t conform to the current game? That’s today’s analytics to a T.
People are stupid. You don't make it 2-3 yrs as a major d1 coach if you can't adapt. He's done it at the highest collegiate level for generations. No doubt the game has changed quite a bit from when he first started coaching.

Proof? When has he played ?
You’re assuming normal college development and that is a stretch from what we’ve seen the last 3 years

I'm sure I've had it, but can't remember when or how it even tastes.
I don't eat a lot of wild duck, but my cousin does and says they can taste like all kinds of things. Some are fishy and some are closer to farm raised. He typically only eats the breast meat of wild. Farm raised is almost more like dark meat. Can even be served red. I kind of think of it like lamb vs pork. Similar in aspects, but not the same.

The best part of duck is the crispy skin. Get a good Peking duck at a nice Chinese restaurant.

Reports have been very positive about Satterwhite. Hubbs and others have reported that the coaches are high on him.

Ultimately, the guys who see their own players every day know what they have and know what they need. If they decide they need a center, they’ll chase one. Based on the adoration reports, though, I don’t think they will.

It was said before the season that a 3 loss SEC team has finished in the top 12 every year of the playoffs.

How so many folks believed we couldn't even take 2 losses and still get in is still baffling to me. Maybe moving forward people will have a more realistic expectation (nahhh people will still be doom and gloom and ready to fahr everybuddy 😅🤣)
The stakes are much higher. Who cares who finished 12th when only four teams got in?

Look at the teams that rank highest, even in the portal era, and you’ll find great high school recruits.

It’s like the draft for an NFL, except you can get as many 1st round picks as you can convince to come. Free agency is good and necessary, but drafting is still the main thing.

This doesn’t convince me.
We’ve heard the “reports “ and how good some players have looked in practice before and not see it on the field in games.

Yeah that’s fair.
