With Nico not scrimmaging due to a stomach bug, Gaston Moore got his most intensive work and took care of the ball and operated well. Jake Merklinger got more snaps as a result as well.
Offensively, Tennessee was cleaner than they were in scrimmage one and took care of the ball pretty well.
Tennessee went through a bunch of situational football including situations like halftime and TV timeouts for the coaches with thall the changes they are having like the in helmet communication, ipads, etc. Heupel noted there are more changes this year than in previous years.
On the offensive line, Lance Heard scrimmaged for the first time as he continues to builds towards the opener. Getting in game shape is needed for Heard. Andrej Karic scrimmaged as well which was important for him as the battles for the starting left guard spot.
Heupel noted he liked the work of DeSean Bishop and Peyton Lewis at running back. Donte Thornton according to everyone we spoke with had the most productive day at receiver. Squirrel White also had a solid day and so did Bru McCoy, who did scrimmage.
Defensively, Joshua Josephs continues to have a good camp and had a good day on Thursday. At linebacker, Arion Carter showed up. Jeremiah Telander also took advantage of Keenan Pili not scrimmaging and had a solid day.
In the secondary, with Rickey Gibson being limited this week, Tennessee's secondary rotation included McCoy at one corner and the other corner was a rotation of Jalen McMurray and Jordan Matthews. They also rotated evenly at star with Boo Carter and Christian Harrison.
