Didn’t realize watching it but Mike Matthews is wiiiiiide open at the top. Doesn’t pout. Comes and makes a block.
There will be “punishment” it just won’t be significant. Losing in the conference champ is a lot different than losing in regular season, especially when the team you’re playing against in champ game is a top 3 team. Loser of SEC and B10 will probably move slightly but not much. Now loser of ACC and Mountain West will definitely slide more it’ll be interesting to see how farIf there’s no punishment for losers of the conference championship games then there should be no reward for winners thus making CGs obsolete.
This is in response to if UGA loses to UTjr giving them 3 losses and will remain in the CFP.
This is what I think too. But a lot of it will depend where SMU is Tuesday will they be ahead or behind Osu? I think if they’re ahead of Osu they’ll be in with a loss, if they don’t move them up I think it leaves the committee room to drop them outIf Clemson beats SMU, I believe ACC gets 2 teams in and Alabama stays home. Once again the lesser of 2 evils.
It does seem that if the game can win you a spot, it should also be abke to lose you a spot.If there’s no punishment for losers of the conference championship games then there should be no reward for winners thus making CGs obsolete.

Correct. You very well may be right, I've just never heard that rule.
Blindside is typically from anywhere the person being blocked can't see it coming, regardless of relation to the goal line. Lots of blindside happen when a blocker is running away from his own goal line and the defender is coming across the field.
I know peel back blocks have a criteria where you can't be moving parallel to or toward your own goal line, but that's for a hit below the waist.
Could be I just don't know the rule though. Either way, MM was definitely close to getting a flag but I think the official did the right thing by holstering it.
A cut block is probably the name for illegal below the waist block. High school and college and NFL are all different on what is legal with below the waist blocks, so I'm not entirely sure when a block below the waist is legal or not in college.Correct.

I don't find any mention of a "peel back" block and the rule for blocking below the waist has not mention of direction.

Also I'm guessing rule 9-1-6 is where you'll find the rules for blocking below the waist. Football rule books are stupid, they have one section that defines below the waist and then an entirely other section that tells you if it's legal or not lolCorrect.
