The morphing of this thing the past decade is plainly obvious. Remember in 2014 when the stated objective was to pick the four best teams? They don't even use that phraseology anymore. The CFP has slowly turned it into we will pick whoever the hell we want and can get away with for tv and vegas. With stupid and meaningless statistics and terms like 'the eye test', game control, SOS, margin of victory, quality wins, and bad losses, they convince and distract the fans to the fact that they are picking whoever they damn well please and making excuses for their rationale. Quit trying to figure out any reasonable explanation beyond that and you'll be happier. The committee sure has made it evident that they do not give a RATS ASS about head to head
It is ALL about eye test and recency bias. It's almost like they go out of their way to not anyone credit for actually beating someone.
I think that has to change. A seasons full body of work has to count for something. That includes the crap losses.
Is that really what you want?Need to pull for Oregon to beat Penn State. I want to host Franklin’s ass.
Why should uscE get in when bama and ole piss beat them? H2H needs to matter. i think ole miss, bama, uscE in that order. This media driven uscE agenda feels like the old cbb tourney metric (what have you done the last 10 games). I think its fine, but its a mute point when you’re jockeying against a team(s) that literally beat you h2h. Ole piss killed uscE at THEIR place.Yeah. Hard to have much sympathy for Ole Miss when all they had to beat was beat an absolutely pathetic Kentucky team at home. Still, how much worse is a nail biter loss to Kentucky at home compared to getting blown out by a very mediocre (at best) Oklahoma team on the road? The Kentucky loss is worse, but objectively speaking, getting destroyed by a .500 Oklahoma team that lost at home
by double digits to Tennessee and South Carolina is a terrible loss too.
Neither team should be in. If a 3 loss team in the SEC should get in, it’s South Carolina. We all know this won’t happen, though. Alabama’s brand gets them in over SC every time. Plus, the committee has the head to head cop out to use as its reasoning for putting Bama ahead of SC.
When i first heard of “game control”, i scoffed. Its such a bs statistic; its crazy the public cant know the qualifications to get in the tournament. Conspiracy take: b/c there is no real qualification and they change it every week/month/year to fit the bamas, osu’s, clemsux’s, see fsu last year. You’re 100% correct, theres no reasonable explanation other than tv and gambling. The morphing of this thing the past decade is plainly obvious. Matchups for tv and gambling, plain and simple.
You're missing the point of this whole thing. They want a muddled confusing process. Bunny trails and shadow corporations, that is how money is laundered, it's a shell game.I wish they’d do 2 things to lend credibility to the process…
1. State clearly what their goal is - 12 BEST teams, 12 most deserving based on their season, etc, and step-by-step what their process for deciding that. (How they weigh each factor they consider.) This way they can’t move the goal post every week to fit agenda without fans at least being able to call them on it.
2. Live stream their discussion. Idk how much time they spend discussing, but I assume they get to a point where it’s decision time and the discussion gets real and they vote or whatever they do. This would ensure things are above board. It would make somebody a lot of money because I think a ton of people would tune in. It’d be very interesting
