Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It FEELS as good as 2022 though

I guess you could look at the 01 SEC title game as a playoff game. 1 loss regular season, one win away from a title game.

2 loss regular season...3 wins away from a title game "ugh"

Just give me a dang home playoff game. Gimme the chocolate covered peanut butter balls with a coach on the way out and we baptize them in our hillbilly hellfire.

This may not be as dominant a team as 2022, but the change in format has given this team juat the right amount of leeway to be able to grow into a really good team.

Now the passing game is coming around to combine with the rest. Who knows, maybe this teams ends up just as good and with as many ranked wins (think we'd win it all in this case? 🤔)

if they already have us hosting tomorrow night then we are good as long as Georgia does not win.

if they have us at the 9, there are still some things that could change. I could see them having us at the 9, UGA/TX pending because that will change a lot of things. If UGA loses, that lets the SEC have 2 dark horses in (Bama, UGA) to go on the road, but gives the conference a home game (Vols)

No matter what, the SEC will not allow 3 SEC teams to go on the road round 1.
I don’t think UGA will drop below us with a loss. In fact, I don’t think they will move us up after conference champ week. I think the conference champ teams ahead of us will stay ahead of us (UGA, Tex, PSU, Oregon). I think we are in the 8/9 slot no matter what.

It seems consensus that the Vols will host a CFP game. Everyone thinks it, from pole voters, journalists, sports talk shows and football fans in general. At this point, it will be a surprise to everyone if we don't host and will be a scam by the committee to reward another program based off their name and nothing else.

Ohio State @ Neyland in a playoff game may be the biggest game to hit Knoxville in generations.
I’d rather get Indiana if we can, but I guess I wouldn’t mind either.

OSU, ND, ASU and Indiana have the bottom 4 offenses when it comes to total yards. I like looking at this because we’re 2-2 against offenses in the top 100 in total yards. (FL, Bama, UGA, Arkansas)

Indiana is actually in the upper half, but they haven’t played anybody. So yeah give me OSU or Indiana lol

Lane’s “margin of victory” stuff is silly, honestly. Lane trying to say Ole Miss should get into the playoff because they rubbed some FCS cupcake’s nose in it worse than Bama did is just silliness.

I was reading quickly, must have missed it — what did he say about Kentucky?
Ole Miss is +11 ppg in SEC play

Alabama is +7

Only Texas has a better in-conference margin of victory (+14 ppg)

That's too many teams imo. I think while USCe is a compelling narrative, and they are playing very well today... Doesn't their whole season come in to play? Saying that we need more teams to accommodate a team, or teams, like USCe, Bama, Ole miss, Miami etc..

They all had multiple opportunities to get in after all... More teams makes the regular season mean less. We're already rationally saying USCe should get in even tho they lost to 2 teams currently ahead of them... Because they beat USCe.

There's something inherently wrong with that, when the best thing about college football has always been the importance of the regular season, and the reward/consequence for winning and losing.

Now, none of that will matter when making a decision about playoff expansion. If it nets more $$$, it'll happen... So I get that. Just can't pretend that expansion improves the competitive balance of the sport, because it doesn't. At 16 teams all three sec teams get in, rendering the outcomes of all those games pointless, except for seeding... Maybe.
Idk how it’ll impact the regular season. NFL is at 14 team playoff and I enjoy the NFL playoffs but also they only have 32 teams in total so that makes every regular season game important. I guess we’ll see how it plays out.

I’m content with anything from 12-16 cause the Vols will have a chance for sure every year to make a run. The way our team is trending we have a chance every year even if it’s 4-8 teams so 12-16 makes it even easier on us. IMO 12-16 is better than less teams in because more teams are fighting til the last week to get in. Look at how crazy the last 3 weeks have been. This has been one of the most entertaining CFB seasons in history and I’d be willing to bet the viewership numbers probably reflect that too. In years past, it would be less important games this late in the season.

Also there were more cases of players sitting out or transferring out before the regular season even ends if they knew their team wasn’t making the playoff. Not a lot but it happened. Now it’s less likely that happens with contending teams since 12 teams are in and about 20 teams are fighting for those spots in the last few weeks of the season. Idk if I’ve seen any transfer/opt out news from contenders yet. But those are all valid concerns you listed and we’ll see how it plays out I guess.

This years defense is wayyyyyyyyy more filthy than ‘22. We all know what defense wins in football.

I bought Fet.ai when it was at like .09 cents but said nah I’m good because I was impatient and my fiancé got mad at me at the time because I spent 95% of my time on my phone looking at stocks, crypto, etc.

I did a ton of futures trading after that and got humbled real quick. Told myself that being patient pays off.

I regret selling all my shares in Fet.Ai though. Both of those were recommended by a guy from X.

If I had Fet.Ai still to go with XRP, I’d probably quit my job next year lol
Lol my lady is on my butt about being on the phone looking at crypto related stuff too. This **** consumes your life lol.

I haven’t messed with futures or swing trading yet. I’m a big HODLer though.

You got any other good recs for AI crypto companies? I haven’t put much time in researching that space yet. I just know everyone is busting a nut about it since last year. I’ve spent most my time looking into gaming since last cycle and parachains, blockchain authentication, and blockchain competitors to ETH (ETH sucks so bad).

It is, about a TD better in-conference than 22.

But 2022 offense was 2.5 Tds better than this year.

2022 put up a whopping 4 ranked wins for a reason. It was the most dominant UT team since '98 and there's not another team all too close.

But this team still has its starting QB and a chance to jell and finisher higher than 6th as well. The season is long, we just need to peak at the right time and it does seem some pieces are doing just that. We'll see.

Passing game and oline are the best it’s been this season. Got to continue that and avoid costly turnovers.

That UK loss was so bad though.
They aren't playing UK

And Bama isn't facing OU

When it gets this close I'd ask who's played the best playoff-caliber opponents.

It's not that much separation, but I'd put it
1) OM
2) Bama/USCjr too close to call

USCjr not losing...but getting BOATRACED by Ole Miss really hurts jmo. I don't put a ton on H2H, but getting destroyed vs a playoff caliber opponent vs destroying one is meaningful.
