Recruiting Football Talk VIII

We're beating those elite schools for more and more recruits lately, though. In the past few years, we've beaten Georgia and Alabama for guys like Hobbs, Gibson, Arion Carter, Squirrel, Matthews, and JPJ.

In this class, we beat out Georgia for Gass, Travis Smith (also Bama), and Harmon (also Bama), and beating Ohio State for Dye and Sanders, Jr.

The schools we're beating for signees seems to be getting better and better.
This is the main reason the committee and SEC lobbying screwed us by letting underserving 3-loss Bama in the playoffs. It would have been a milestone event for us to replace Bama in playoffs.

But we're still climbing. And can't stop, won't stop.

And get a shot at: an Ohio stale university.

That Dalton Knecht ROY talk was fun for a week.
NBA season is a Marathon not a Sprint like College. Knecht will have his ups and downs during the season, he is a Rookie adapting to the travel and 3 games a week is difficult.. figured he would hit a wall but DK will be just fine..

Prioritize the right players with your budget. The recruiting class rankings are going to look similar every year. We’ll be around 10 every year unless something changes with our budget. Maybe Jimmy sells the Browns and buys us a few #1 classes but otherwise we’ve got what we’ve got and need to spend it wisely. It’s not a level playing field. I could delve into doing away with the “NIL” nonsense and following the NFL model with revenue sharing and a salary cap but figuring that out is above my pay grade.
Agree with this.

Recruiting rankings also don’t do a great job accounting for positional value. The top players in our classes since Heupel’s been here have been QBs, Edge guys, DL, and WR. Finally got the big fish OT this year but that’s clearly a target. Spend the money there.

I need to do some analysis into the college value of those positions but I think we’d get a nice bump.

Happy Thursday,

December 5, 2024: Quiet your soul, and allow spiritual regeneration to rule the day. That does not mean that you do nothing; it means that you stop worrying and fretting over things that are actually beyond your ability to change. Remember that God is your help in trouble and that you can cast your cares upon Him. Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

The thing is, I’m not sure we’d have a high enough budget to match Texas, Texas A&M, Oregon etc. I don’t think we have the NIL to get 4-5 five starts every cycle like they do.

I’m with you, I think we have to be smarter than they do about who we give money to

A fun twist on these challenges.
They should do 2 games in a week 1 home and 1 away different opponents.

It will never happen because precious Duke won't go on the road, but it would be fun.

People are complaining about the expanded CFP but it is so much better than it was previously. They just need to clean it up and get their sh*t together.

Imagine last year's method of CFP with only 4 teams getting in.... It would be a train wreck if you look at the current rankings.

This year of football might be the best of my lifetime with the excitement week in, week out. They just need to remove the bias and terrible standards the committee currently operates in. I bet if it was only 4 teams allowed in... they would still be trying to make an argument
You haven't lived very long.

A catapult has a a connected end bucket for smaller projectiles and shorter distances.

A trebuchet has a line connected to a sling for throwing larger projectiles over farther distances.
I thought a trebuchet was a shot from behind the three-point line.

It is actual football, it's just accelerated to (99% of the time) end it more quickly. Just like penalty kicks in soccer or, hockey, once you've done some overtime of normal football you go to a penalty kick type situation.

I think it's best overtime in all of sports to be honest. Perfectly fair, much more entertaining than just one more quarter. And tired players aren't playing more than a few plays at a time.
Stop. Right now CFB has almost the stupidest overtime rules ever. The only thing worse would be deciding the winner by extra points. Soccer and hockey are stupid third world/canadian, commie sports. Copying them is for losers. I can't stand people trying to wussify football.
Maybe we should have settled WWII when we got to the Rhine with rock, paper, scissors, get outta here with this crap.
