Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Can these guys who are able to red shirt be available to play in all of the playoff games now since they are considered postseason? I know you could in the bowl game, but I’m not sure how that works with the playoff and potentially being able to play 4 more games.

Yes, they can play.

Hopefully Staley gets some run in the slot.

I don’t think that’ll be the narrative if we lose. No matter the outcome I think the narrative will be Heup brought a dead program back to life.
I hope you’re right. Hopefully at least with our own fans. We do still have screaming from our own fans about firing current coaches while we are still competing for a championship. You are certainly right that the reality is that Heupel has restored our program.

December 10, 2009

Vols have never played on this date, so......

In 2009, Eric Berry had 87 tackles with 7 for a loss and 2 interceptions. Berry was named All-SEC and All-American for the second straight year. To top off a spectacular career, he was honored as the Jim Thorpe Award winner as the best defensive back in the country, on this date in 2009.

Oklahoma letting Gabriel go to Oregon so Arnold could play half of a season and leave seems like a questionable decision, in hindsight.
If he’s there they’re in the playoffs, possibly. The oline needed to be way better (feel like we’ve had this conversation with a Sooner in the football forum, #bedenbaughforpresident lol).

Notes from Day presser about game:

When you have a coach acknowledging that the fans are going to boo and begging to get past the Michigan game...

Kiiinnnnd of Butchy to me
Which osu players have declared for the portal?

Can we snag an offensive player and a defensive player to get all their signals? 😂

Not sure if y'all've (double contraction skills) heard about this, but it's awesome:

Cheatham Middle School has used University of Cincinnati's colors, logo, and mascot for 26 years.

About 2 weeks ago, Cincy sent the school board/district a cease and desist letter. The most absurd thing I've heard, because middle and high schools nationwide use colors, mascots, and logos of college and professional teams all the time (for example, my high school has a framed 1970's letter from Auburn stating we can use their official colors).

Today Cheatham County Schools announced they've partnered with Xavier University (Cincy's #1 rival) to use colors, logo, and mascot moving forward.

The pettiness is unmatched. Also, screw Cincy.

It's because the middle school beat them in a scrimmage. Cincinnati should be happy that anyone would want to wear their colors or watch them play. Besides nobody probably noticed whose colors they were wearing and the parents at the middle school were saying, Hey, the University of Cincinnati stole our logo.

Is it wrong to enjoy beating the college teams who need the middle school stickers on their helmets to show their accomplishments?
Is it mostly a big 10 thing?

It’s just so pitiful, pathetic and juvenile. 😎
Blowhio St. only gives out helmet stickers when the player passes a drug screening or sells stolen stuff on ebay.

If this kid is as good as everyone says on here, Sanders will most definitely have a shot at starting day 1.. 5* OT don't think he wants to stand on sidelines his first year..
He’ll get a look, but it’s tough to start at 18-19. He’s certainly good enough but may not be big enough if he doesn’t pack on 30 pounds of good weight. Sanders is listed around 280 right now. Heard is 340.

Y’all’s system asks OTs to survive one on one battles. Skill helps a ton, but weight matters, too. It’s just physics.

He’s played every meaningful snap this year, so it seems like an odd question.
Lang
Bussell - Travolta
Karic - Sig. snaps. 1Yr left.
Grant - Travolta
Duncan - Travolta
Reddick - Travolta
Ginther - Staff high on him. Yet again, Travolta
Umarov - Paper mache

It was Umarov, not Karic. My bad.

Still yet, fact remains. You have to have talent in the trenches, and we have little. Really dont like going to portal for OL starters. But, I think you have too in 2025, with what we're losing.

I tire of us taking developmental players, Grant is perfect example, just to never see the field. We have every advantage in terms of recruiting, Guard is a position we should not struggle to get HS players.

And yes, I specifically mean high 4 and 5 star players. Or players that have offers from upper 1% of schools. It's time.

How do we fix it? If Ellarbee is just THAT off putting and awkward, we need to get him help. To me the single biggest obstacle to us getting past our sworn enemies, Georgia, Alabama, and SEC officiating is a small talent gap. Think about this. Had we controlled the LoS versus Arkansas, where are we? South Carolina in '22?

I will add this team has over achieved. They have learned how to finish in games they may have lost or won by a point a while back.

I'm reharrin' Smellarfeet, after multiple fahrin's. And i'm finding a way to hire a recruiting assistant.

Lots of hobbles and post FG breathers. Not sure if its conditioning, or, lack of trust. But it's Y4. And we aren't developing any depth.

Do I expect every HS olineman to be 4/5? No, esp guards. But I do expect them to have offers from top 1% of schools. Orlando Pace was a *** if I recall.

You realize that the post-PAT “breathers” are fake, right?

I’m surprised at how many of our fans still don’t understand that. Umarov hasn’t been hurt following those PATs. It’s something Heupel has them do after quick scores to rest the defense. He’s been doing it for 4 years.

And yes, none of those were Karic. He’s been healthy all year.

Also, Orlando Pace was one of the most highly recruited, if not THE most highly recruited OL of all-time. Believe he was the #1 overall recruit in America by at least one service. He was not a 3*.
