Recruiting Football Talk VIII

our staff better be contacting and making moves in the portal, even if it is just reaching out to say they are interested... Not in several weeks... NOW.

With who we have graduating, very interesting the number of WR's hitting the portal who would see more playing time next season.

Someone yesterday said they thought if you put your name in the portal, you can still play in whatever games are left, I think referencing Nimrod and Webb... GTFO.
I don't want to see a single kid who put his name in the portal seeing the field wearing the Power T for even a snap. Clean out your locker. BYE.

Cheapest ticket right now is $300. About right in line with our prices this regular season, but definitely cheaper than a playoff game would be here.
Maybe that is what these people are comparing them too. One guy told me he got 4 for like $150 each from someone in Ohio. I just looked on Stubhub and they are all 250+. Still better than a grand for Atlanta.

Eittiene put his name in and played in the SEC champ game
It's up to the schools.

Although he's going to the draft, it just opened up a roster spot for UGA.

25% roster turnover on trannies alone.

I see why these coaches age rapidly.

Lang
Bussell - Travolta
Karic - Sig. snaps. 1Yr left.
Grant - Travolta
Duncan - Travolta
Reddick - Travolta
Ginther - Staff high on him. Yet again, Travolta
Umarov - Paper mache

It was Umarov, not Karic. My bad.

Still yet, fact remains. You have to have talent in the trenches, and we have little. Really dont like going to portal for OL starters. But, I think you have too in 2025, with what we're losing.

I tire of us taking developmental players, Grant is perfect example, just to never see the field. We have every advantage in terms of recruiting, Guard is a position we should not struggle to get HS players.

And yes, I specifically mean high 4 and 5 star players. Or players that have offers from upper 1% of schools. It's time.

How do we fix it? If Ellarbee is just THAT off putting and awkward, we need to get him help. To me the single biggest obstacle to us getting past our sworn enemies, Georgia, Alabama, and SEC officiating is a small talent gap. Think about this. Had we controlled the LoS versus Arkansas, where are we? South Carolina in '22?

I will add this team has over achieved. They have learned how to finish in games they may have lost or won by a point a while back.

I'm reharrin' Smellarfeet, after multiple fahrin's. And i'm finding a way to hire a recruiting assistant.
PSA: Nerd stuff incoming.

Over the last 10 years in the SEC, only half of eventual starting OL get their first starter minutes before their RS-JR or SR year. 9% break in as FR, 24% as SO/RS-FR, 17% as JR/RS-SO, and 26% as SR/RS-JR, and 24% don't start until they're RS-SRs. The trend is pretty consistent across the FBS, and the numbers hold up for the likes of Bama / Georgia / etc. as well.

If we consider 2022 Heupel / Ellarbee's first shot at real recruiting class, those guys wouldn't hit that RS-JR / SR benchmark until next year.

2022 / JR (Expect to contribute in 2025):
Addison Nichols: Starter at Arkansas (2024)
Brian Grant: TBD (37 snaps this year)
Masai Reddick: TBD (0 snaps)
Maurice Clipper: Gone

2023 / SO (Expect to contribute in 2026):
Sham Umarov: TBD (66 snaps)
Ayden Bussell: TBD (62 snaps)
Trevor Duncan: TBD (8 snaps)
Vysen Lang: Gone (44 snaps)

2024 / FR (Expect to contribute in 2027):
Jesse Perry: TBD (72 snaps)
Max Anderson: TBD (47 snaps)
William Satterwhite: TBD (45 snaps)
Bennett Warren: TBD (40 snaps)
Gage Ginther: TBD (19 snaps)
Jeremias Heard: TBD (8 snaps)

I also want to note, we had 4/6 (66%) of our freshman OL and 3/4 (75%) of our sophomores get 40+ snaps. The SEC averages for those years are 37% and 47% respectively.

All this to say, yes - we haven't had Ellarbee recruits break into the starting lineup. That said, given the way OL progress in the SEC, you wouldn't really expect to see that happen until next year. Granted, the 2022 crop doesn't look especially close, but both the 2023 and 2024 groups are ahead of schedule in terms of snap counts, and the 2024 group in particular looks like one of the best freshmen groups in the country.

I hope you’re right. Hopefully at least with our own fans. We do still have screaming from our own fans about firing current coaches while we are still competing for a championship. You are certainly right that the reality is that Heupel has restored our program.
😄 Tell it.

Many of the worst FF types are traditional trolls. Not a few of the "High Tide, Larry!" variety (#94,519), but from all over. Others are BVS cases who fell in love with their disease and made it a badge of (dis)honor and an sadomasichistic obsession.

Do you think they are just sitting on their ass?
