Recruiting Football Talk VIII

He won't come here, because of the guys recruited and already in the QB room... but I'd for sure be calling Darian Mensah from Tulane about coming to the hill to compete for a shot.

re-recruit him.... I think we lost him because the state of Missori had some law at the time that Tennessee didn't.

Would be cool to add him
Drinky got the MO legislature to pass a law saying that an in-state recruit could start getting NIL while still in high school from an in-state college, iirc.

Also as of now on 247

only Jordan Matthews is officially in the portal.

on3 as of now shows

Kaleb Webb
Khalifa Keith
Vysen Lang
Jalen Smith
Jordan Matthews

Wonder if some of the on3 guys aren't actually officially in yet or if 247 is just behind in updating?

An interesting note I came across on Mensah.

There are three primary factors outside the QB's control that affect performance the most:
1. SOS
2. Supporting Cast (OL and WR help)
3. Usage. Guys in run-heavy offenses benefit a ton from stacked boxes, play-action, etc. and will usually put up significantly better YPA / AYPA / Rating / etc.

Mensah had a <10th percentile SOS, >90th percentile supporting cast, and >90th percentile usage boost. No one in all of FBS (and I believe only Tommy Mellott at Montana State) was helped more from his surrounding context this year. He's still a solid QB, but he's a lot closer to average than his numbers make him look imo.

That's correct. Drinky got the MO legislature to pass a law saying that an in-state recruit could start getting NIL while still in high school from an in-state college, irrc.
Do they have to be 18 to receive these benefits?

If not somebody should remind them any contracts they enter into aren't binding.

Picked this up last night after a phone call.. I also got a bottle of EH single barrel. Had a bunch of stuff but I didn't go for some of it. He had:

Weller Full Proof
Elmer T Lee
Blanton’s straight from the barrel
Blanton’s gold

Pretty good bottle, I’ve had a couple and with any single barrel some are better than others.

I’ve come to the conclusion tho that a bunch of the hyped up allocated bottles are more hype than good. Just my opinion of course, but some I just don’t even pay attention to anymore

I agree. The blantons are extremely overrated. Bowman Bros are just as good, IMO. I do like the Eagle Rare, and EH Taylor stuff. The Elmer T Lee is just more expensive Blanton’s. Buffalo Trace is just younger Eagle Rare.

Wish more of these were done per drive instead of per-snap.

A team that hits a 80-yard bomb, then goes 3-out for the next 4 drives gets a rating of 0.53

Back to back, 15-play touchdown drives would get you a rating of 0.47
How does Nico stack up on the metrics you were citing a second ago? We have good run game and decent supporting cast.

Would’ve been a blockbuster hire for UNC…maybe 5 years ago.

I think he’s just going to stay long enough to use his name to get talent and then it’s out the door for the next guy.
